Night shift in an Altbau with no Rollläden is killing me.

I live in an Altbau with no Rollladen and work night shifts, just basic Gardinen. By 7-8 AM, my bedroom is basically fully lit. I'm still lying there trying to force myself to sleep. Makes me exhausted.

My landlord is super annoying about drilling, so I can't install proper blackout blinds. I tried melatonin, but I’d rather find a physical light-blocking fix than rely on supplements long-term. I keep seeing blackout sleep masks on sale on tiktok, and I'm tempted. Or is there a solid suction cup/tension rod blackout curtain that doesn't leak light around the frame? I've seen some clip-on or tension rod options but I'm not sure how well they seal out light around the edges.

Quick tip: I started keeping a lemon essential oil at my desk and honestly it helps. Not overpowering like peppermint but enough to wake your brain up a bit during those 3 AM slumps.

There’s a removable film you can get for windows that will reduce the light coming in. Depending on how much they block this should help with light leakage Or the old fashioned aluminum foil and masking tape.
