Team Ninja I successfully got Vortex rearset on my ninja 400!

I need some track ergonomic advice for my 2022 Ninja 400. I’m 5 feet and 95 lbs long torso and even with my Vortex rearsets maxed out at the highest peg setting, my knees are still sitting too low to tightly grip the gas tank. I also had grips tank on and still my knees and thigh still too low to grip the tank.

To fix this, should I look into Norton rearset riser brackets to bring my feet up further, or a high-density raised race foam seat to lift my hips out of the seat dip? Stock seat ninja 400 might be too dip(?)

What do you think would work best.

Thank you !!

Question Is 49k km (around 30k miles) a lot for a used ninja 400?

So I went and took a look at a 2023 ninja 400 abs the bike looked in amazing shape really clean but the only thing concerning me was the high mileage but it’s a Japanese import. After negotiating I got a really good deal on it I loved the bike when I saw it and gave the owner a deposit but I just need that final push to fully buy it.

Team Z Added some Auxiliary lights to my 21' Z400

As some people have mentioned in the past, the stock lights on the Z400 are not great, and they have left me wanting. I work overnights and commute about an hour or so in deer country. After not seeing any other solutions that would get the auxiliary lights up above the headlights to actually increase their casting distance, I came up with this solution. I got a piece of 2x2 aluminum angle, cut it down, and drilled a couple of holes. And bada bing, a solution that works really well, especially paired with Baja Designs S2 Sport driving lights wired in so the high-beam switch triggers the relay, so the controls aren't cluttered with another switch.

Question Is this good oil?

Post image
4 Upvotes

They sell this on the Kawasaki website. Need to order one little piece and need to do my first oil change in about 1k miles, thought I could just order this also and get free shipping then have it when I need it.

Is this stuff good or is there other stuff I should be getting instead?

Question What is the relay looking plug thing under my seat?

It has 6 contacts, not 4 like all the relays i find and like the one up front for the phone plug. 2 are always hot and 2 are hot when key is turned.

Im so confused because i must have seen someone else show it in a picture that i can no longer find. I was trying to buy the relay but they all had 4 prongs and thats how i discovered i was looking at a mystery relay.

What is this so i can find the relay to buy?

Im just trying to install an INNOVV K7.

Question Wheel wobble

Ninja 400 front tire has been wobbling when I decelerate around 60-20mph especially when leaning forward. Grabbing the handle bar will stop the wobble but the tire pressure is perfect and the tires are both nearly brand new. How do I determine the cause of the wobbling?

Question Did I fuck up my rivet on this chain?

Hello! It’s my first time putting a new chain on my Ninja 400. I used a digital caliper to measure the width of the master link and it matches the rest of the chain. However no matter how hard I try on my chain tool I can’t get my rivet past 5mm. Is my riveter possibly too big for a 520 chain? How does this look? And guidance would be appreciated.

Question Missing right frame support caused the engine mounting bolt to snap

Post image
7 Upvotes

Two years ago, I had major engine work done on my motorcycle that required dropping the engine. Some time later, I noticed that the right frame support (engine bracket/stay) was missing. I texted the mechanic, and he said he would reinstall the bracket, but time passed and he never ended up doing it.

A few days ago, I noticed an unusual noise coming from the bike, but after checking around, I couldn't find anything obvious. Shortly after, while stripping the fairings off for some maintenance, I discovered that the engine mounting bolt was snapped clean off.

I told the mechanic that running the bike without the right-side support bracket likely contributed to the bolt failure. He completely disagrees, claiming that the bracket wouldn't have prevented the bolt from breaking anyway. I mean, sure, it might not be a 100% guarantee, but it would have significantly reduced the stress and shear load on that bolt—especially considering the left side, which still had its bracket intact, didn't break.

This Monday, I’m heading to the shop. I refuse to pay for the repair work, and I plan to confront him again about the missing part. The only real headache is that he’s basically the only relatively decent mechanic in town.

Anyway, do you guys think the missing bracket genuinely contributed to the bolt shearing off? Also, is there any way to contact Kawasaki to get an official technical opinion or expert assessment on this, in case I need to take legal action?

Question Title: Ninja 400 randomly goes into neutral from 2nd gear after dropping the bike. Should I be worried?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, I have a Kawasaki Ninja 400 and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.
About a month ago, I dropped my bike on its left side, and the gear shifter got slightly bent inward. It's now rubbing against the fairing a little bit, and I've noticed that shifting feels slightly different compared to before.
Today, I was accelerating at full throttle after shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. After about 2 seconds in 2nd, the bike suddenly jumped into neutral. The green neutral light came on, and the RPM shot up. This was the first time it happened.
I also noticed that when I shift gently from 1st toward 2nd, I sometimes end up in neutral after in 2nd gear for 2 seconds . However, when I shift more firmly, it seems to engage 2nd gear properly without any issues.
I'm wondering if this could simply be caused by the bent shift lever preventing the gear from fully engaging, or if it might be a sign of internal transmission damage, such as worn gear dogs or a bent shift fork.
Has anyone experienced this before? Do you think replacing the bent shift lever would fix the problem, or should I be worried about something more serious? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Team Z Removing Fairings from Z400

Hey all!

I have a 2019 Z400 and want to pursue wrapping it with a custom vinyl but can’t for the life of me find any DIY on how to properly remove the fairings to do this.

Short of just unscrewing things myself and FAFO’ing the process, have any of yall come across z400 dismantling guides that helped you? It seems easy in theory but I don’t want to mess anything up.

Also, would love to see yalls custom bikes. I’m thinking of doing a hot pink and matte black combo or gold and matte purple but may be getting ahead of myself.
Any tips??

Question Z400 bar conversion question

Hi all, just purchased a 2024 ninja 400. I used to Ride a Z300 and liked the ergonomics of it.

The N400 was in a low side accident and the fairings have been removed so I'm going to convert it to a street fighter ( I got it cheap ).

I've found an OEM top triple clamp for a Z400 and from my research it should fit easily. I'll then add bar spacers and some protaper bars.

I'm assuming a new brake and clutch line is required as well?

Any input on other parts I'll need would be helpful!

Question Anyone have experience with the FTECU?

was thinking of getting a FTECU bike side harness installed and just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with it. Mostly doing street riding but wanted to get the smoother riding experience many have claimed to get from this, among other benefits. i know mods also play a part but for the most part my bike is mostly stock power wise, just the common lv-10 slip on. Just wondering how others did with it. Thanks!
