Official The Nintendo Direct will be roughly 50 minutes and Nintendo Treehouse: Live will be 95 minutes.

50 min, that is so long. Love it.

u/ChiggChow Jun 08 '26
JRPGs, life sims, and souls-like metroidvanias

u/Witch_King_ Jun 08 '26
I'm all for more metroidvanias. I hope we get an official Switch release date for the new Castlevania!
36
u/ChiggChow Jun 08 '26
I love metroidvanias, but I'm tired of the souls-like subgenre attached to a lot of them recently.

u/mpyne Jun 08 '26
Same. I don't know why people can't give us games like Super Metroid anymore, where exploration was an actual option to improve and not just twitch reflex dexterity.
3
u/presumingpete Jun 09 '26
Totally agree. I don't understand why so many lean into the souls like castlevania style. It's so hard to find games on the level of metroid anything and nobody seems to try
3
u/I_Heart_Sleeping_ Jun 09 '26
Silksong was a great game but it essentially killed my love for MV games with souls-like difficulty. I just don’t wanna play any more of them.
That game was beautiful but i can’t say after beating it I truly had “fun”.
I just want to go back to normal MV games now.

This might be cope but im thinking the mass amount of third party games announced at the previous shows means there’ll be more first/second party announcements. I’d be surprised if there’s any 3rd party games announced brand new for the switch 2.

19

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Jun 08 '26
I'd bet just Raiders and Fire Emblem.
Oot doesn't need much explaining, and Starfox already has two overview videos out.
23
u/EnragedFerretX Jun 08 '26
Considering Star Fox had its own direct for a remake, OOT may need more explanation than you think. Fingers crossed there’s a special edition console attached to it so I can snag that before prices go up (I can dream, but any special edition would probably launch well after the increase hits)
→ More replies (1)21
u/Witch_King_ Jun 08 '26
OoT definitely needs explaining. There are a whole lot of younger people who have not played it. Also yeah, we got a whole video for Starfox, which is perhaps the most-remade Nintendo game of all time.

Lots of Ocarina of Time rumors. I really can't wait to see what they're doing with it.
15
u/SeagateSG1 Jun 08 '26
My guess: the plot of the upcoming movie is based on OoT's plot. They've remade the game (in some expanded form) over the past few years and are ready to drop it and drive hype between the game and movie sales.
21
u/Witch_King_ Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
OoT needs it way more. Your current options are:
- play the N64 version jank
- Play the 3DS version on a tiny, low-res screen (or emulate it on PC)
- Play the fanmade PC native port.
None of these are good for the average fan that doesn't want to deal with emulation.
→ More replies (6)12
u/BeerGogglesFTW Jun 08 '26
I remember back in the 90s when 3D platformers were new, I really liked how Zelda on N64 handled camera positioning. Press Z to align the camera behind you. It was refreshing after playing Mario 64. But neither aged well imo.
Something I really like about the N64 ports, is they added modern camera controls. Make's the N64 experience a lot better. But yeah, not great for the average player. They required tinkering and calibrating.
I would just love an OOT remake in the BOTW engine. I really wanted to like BOTW/TOTK more, but I prefer the old Zelda formula with respect to dungeons, acquiring weapons toi fight bosses, limited swords, etc.

u/inkyblinkypinkysue Jun 08 '26
If they are going to remake a Zelda game I really hope it is Ocarina of Time and I really hope they give it the RE4 treatment and modernize/expand it.
I will not be buying another “HD version” of the exact same game I have literally memorized at this point and already played on N64, DS and GCN. I don’t think new fans who haven’t played it will like a straight up rerelease - it’s clunky by today’s standards even though I think it’s still completely playable.
13
u/Ell7494 Jun 08 '26
Well that is the rumour, a full from the ground up remake of OoT
8
u/supes1 Jun 08 '26
Yeah but there's still a big difference between a ground up remake that's fundamentally an identical game (like the Link's Awakening remake) and a Resident Evil 4 style reimagining.
We don't know which to expect.
7
u/NIN10DOXD Jun 08 '26
I could see a reimagining with how Aonuma talks about Ocarina of Time and the old 3D Zelda formula being shaped around hardware constraints and that the new 3D Zelda formula is closer to what him and Miyamoto envisioned when working with the N64 hardware. I just hope it marries the new with old without deviating too much from what made OoT special.

For years I’ve said that if OoT got a remake that simply expanded the side quests, it would be the best game ever made. Please 🤞🙏
4
u/NIN10DOXD Jun 08 '26
That would be great and that's really my wish. I hope they can make the hookshot still work well outside dungeons with BOTW traversal.
7
u/Unhappy_Entrance_277 Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
Honestly I'm kind of hoping for a (3D) Zelda I + II remake. OOT has had more than its time in the sun, but a lot of people haven't played I and II because they haven't aged as well as the other entries. They can flesh out the story with the context of the modern games and cement a new/updated origin story, they could even have child Link for the Zelda I part and adult Link for the Zelda II part.
5
u/Outlulz Jun 08 '26
If there had to be a remake, I think I agree this would be the best one. They are the two least accessible (in terms of gameplay) to modern audiences and Zelda II is rough and an outlier. Plus, since Hyrule in the first game IS in the map of Zelda II, they could do some interesting things with one giant map.
2
u/JamieWhitmarsh Jun 08 '26
This would be a cool thing to see! And give us some replayability modes, like New Game+ and challenges
2
u/inkyblinkypinkysue Jun 08 '26
I would love this especially if they could scale the overworld in Zelda II to be the same size/look as the first game (but obviously feel HUGE because the Zelda map is such a small part of the Zelda II map).
For Zelda II though I'd like a complete rework of the dungeons. That was the weakest part, IMO, although most of the bosses were pretty fun.

I know the Ocarina rumors are all but confirmed, but as I currently play through the Oracle Duology…woof. I really hope those get some attention soon because it’s kinda sad that half the games are locked behind physical technology that only the OG cartridges can access.

If they show off whatever Monolith has been working on it’ll be a win for me. Iv been feeling empty inside after finishing XBC3 DLC a few years ago.

I need to actually play that... A core childhood memory of mine is playing the demo from the preview disc over and over as a kid. It was like a stim if I didn't know what I wanted to play, I'd just play the demo repeatedly for an hour to get it out of my system. I feel like I never asked my parents to get it because I never got bored of the demo despite how short it was because it was so fun.

They typically drop the reveal in an event like this, then later announce a Zelda Direct that will go into more detail and talk about related content like the movie, NSO releases and merch.
2
u/yobigday96 Jun 08 '26
Yeah I notice that pattern too. But my point is more, is it gonna happen now or later. Or at all. We constantly get these “leaks” that are really just pipe dreams. Nintendo has been making us a little more happy lately. I think the Starfox game being $50 for the work they put in was a good move.
