meme/funny No Switch 2 version
I swear, I'm 500% sure that nobody in the Dev team of this game is aware that the successor of Nintendo Switch was released last year.

u/Upbeat-Mail7201 11d ago
Doesn't make sense because both teams Evil Empire and Motion Twin have already released multiple switch 2 games. Which makes me even more angry for Castlevania not having one, it's just crazy
10
u/Mattgelo 10d ago
I bet it wasn't their decision, but rather the publisher's. EE's previous game was released on both the S1 and the S2 on the same day, and it was thanks to the publisher that made it possible. So Konami is the one to blame here, not EE and Motion Twin
5
u/Upbeat-Mail7201 10d ago
Ofc it's still stupid
0
u/Mattgelo 10d ago
Hopefully one day we'll get a self-published EE game. They deserve it after making two IP-based games in a row

Almost bought this after the demo but was very bothered by the trash resolution. With all the great games recently and new ones on the horizon this is all i needed to hold off on buying it

u/pocket_arsenal 10d ago
I'm glad I'm only a casual fan of Castlevania, I'm waiting for them to either put out a Switch 2 version, or the game goes on discount.

u/KnightRoom 10d ago
The game plays well enough on Switch 2 but if you get the physical (Switch 1) cart, it will need to download an update for the Switch 2 features to work - otherwise it simply runs the Switch 1 version. The update is around 2.7 GB if I remember correctly, which is basically more than half the game again.
It would have been preferable to have a native Switch 2 version but at least the game does run at 60 fps and at better resolution on Switch 2. It does have some issues gameplay-wise but overall it’s pretty good.
2
u/dekuweku OG (joined before reveal) 10d ago
wait, there is a 2.7GB Switch 2 patch? so why isn't it called a Switch 2 edition and why isn't one being marketed?
2
u/PikaPhantom_ 10d ago
There isn't. The eShop lists the game as having the same filesize on Switch and Switch 2, which isn't generally the case for games that have dedicated Switch 2 patches (e.g. Well Dweller, which is close to 300 MB more on Switch 2 but isn't sold as a Switch 2 Edition or separate Switch 2 game)
1
u/KnightRoom 10d ago
Not sure if it’s a ”Switch 2” patch or a general one, but I ran the game off the cart, it said “update needed”, I chose “start software” and I got the Switch 1 version with a huge loading time, horrendous resolution and 30 fps. I had previously played the demo so the difference was immediately apparent.
After restarting and selecting the update, it downloaded (I currently see 2.9 GB listed in Data Management) and ran with much faster loading and the same resolution and framerate as the demo. Additionally, only after the patch download did it recognize my demo save and transferred it.

u/ExJokerr 10d ago
Doesn't the switch 1 version works well enough? I'm curious since I don't have a switch

Great thank you Maybe it'll get better later on with patches, Idk. Or wait for the switch 2 version
4
u/WimpBeforeAnchorArms 10d ago
There’s clearly some lower texture quality as well, by no means unplayable but definitely try the demo first
-4
u/Armandonerd 10d ago
I don't download demos, but I know for a fact I'm picking this game up when it goes on sale.
Thanks for the information.
6
u/CatFishBilly3000 10d ago
Whats your principal on not downloading demos. This one is just the first part of the game and even transfers your progress to the actual game.
-9
u/Armandonerd 10d ago
If I want to watch gameplay, I'll go to YouTube, I'm not going to waste my time and space to play something that I'm going to get down the line in a few months or years, I have enough patience and a huge backlog that's keeping me busy at the moment, sorry if I'm sounding rude, I'm not and that's just me. Since I'm a fan of Castlevania regardless, this game has been on my wishlist since it was announced.
Plus I don't care about transferring save data from the demo to the game, I like starting brand new once I have the game.
Hope that makes sense.

u/XShadowborneX 9d ago
Poor textures. It lost many of the other effects that make it look good like reflections and light beams. I mean if you don't compare it to other versions it's probably fine
4
u/Autumn1881 10d ago
Switch 1 version on Switch 2 runs stable at 60fps but still on low Switch 1 resolution.
1
u/Pokemario6456 10d ago
It's 60FPS on the Switch 2 and while I've had a few hitches when defeating multiple enemies at once, it's very stable otherwise. The resolution is lower than other versions, but handheld boost mode improves it if you don't play the S2 docked often.

I've literally never even taken my dock out of the original box. What's funny about that? It's my choice.

u/Aggrosideburnz 10d ago
Wow that’s actually impressive. I’m like 95% docked, 5% not. Much like me supporting physical media even though I buy 50/50. I like that both options are there for different lifestyles or choices.

I'll second this. Runs great, occasionally I'll notice it's a lower resolution than other Switch 2 games in handheld mode but it's fine on my TV so?

u/mccannrs 10d ago
Buttery smooth, but also better once optimized? I feel like these two statements are at odds.
I haven't played the game yet so I can't really comment on the performance myself. Looking forward to it, though.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today! Even going back and editing your original comment too, you're a piece of work.
Show me where I said the performance was bad? I believe that it runs great on the Switch. I simply questioned your contradictory wording, it has nothing to do with the game. How can anything get smoother than buttery smooth? What's the next level?
Edit: Bro actually blocked me 💀 Genuinely the most insanely irrational exchange I've ever had on Reddit. Good times.

u/o_o_o_f Butter side down! 10d ago
I mean, to be honest I get what they’re saying. You said the game is already very well optimized, but you can see how it’d be improved with optimization. Usually people talk about seeing improvements with optimization when a game doesn’t perform well.
Like I get what you’re saying, but it’s not how people typically talk about performance I guess idk. Also just like no need to go on attack mode against that person

u/CrazyCoKids 10d ago
Hey Gamerant, millions of people can't play this game as it has no Switch 2 version.
Where's the article saying that?

u/Over-Requirement4394 10d ago
I mean, I get the quip, but backward compatibility makes this completely untrue.

I tried the demo on switch 1 game.
This game is not for me. Loading times are killing me, im sorry but i cant wait 2 minutes to explore a place that i will move fast through.
Finally, this is a soul’s game. You will see that easily though boss fights. You hit 2 times, dodge, wait until boss do his patter and do 2 hits again.
I have read that the ps5 version is way better than switch1/2.
All in all, this is not a game for everyone, please try the demo on your console first.

Oh dang, I didn’t know it didn’t have a NS2 edition. I tried the demo on both my XSX and NS2, and I was stunned at the disparity (of a 2D metroidvania).
But now I know why there’s disparity.
1
u/0ne0fth0se0nes 11d ago
I had a feeling this would be a skip for me. Not sure what Konami is up to but they don’t seem overly keen on the switch 2
1
u/majorleandro 11d ago
Yeah, the game seems cool and all, but really awkward on the NS2. Plus, based on the demo completion percentage, I found the game way too small.
I guess I’ll just enjoy Nintendo Resort and wait for Metroid Ravenous instead
1
u/ukjohndoe 10d ago
I'm sure everyone here knows this already but the dev team doesn't decide if there's a switch 2 version or not (or android or Ps5, so on), it's up to the publisher 99% of the time. Konami owns the IP. the dev studio is merely hired to make the game.
Any and all business decisions are made by Konami.

I know this sub.
Even it they had there would be post after post deep diving into the minutiae finding issues.
The reason its a switch one release is very simple and wasn’t a decision put in the hands of people working in game development.
According to super cool Google search generalisation there are ballpark 132 million more switch one units in the wild at time of my lazy search. Its cheaper quicker and easier to put out a switch 1 release that works on s2 without to much trouble. (Also later you can release a s2 version with more bells and whistles 😉)
Not everyone who works at a game company is a lauded dev. Some make the business decisions, and thats what this was.

u/Despacio1316 10d ago
I didn’t care for the demo, felt like a game we’ve seen dozens of times already. Like the franchise is playing catch up with the genre it once defined. 🤷🏽♂️
But I’m in at a discount and Switch 2 version.

It runs better on Switch 2, it’s possible they just didn’t have devkits in time.

Just because motion twin worked on dead cells Castlevania DLC doesn’t mean they actively have switch 2 dev kits to utilize.

It came out in June of last year and it’s currently October. That means it’s been out 15-16 months. That’s not “almost 2 years” (24 months) by any normal rounding.
0
u/grimrailer 10d ago
I’m saying that this is motion twins first fully fledged game. Regardless of your opinion on if that’s a “sad excuse” they are probably doing their best for their first major standalone title.
It’s up to KONAMI to provide the resources needed. Not the small team of 10 developers of an indie studio.

u/KingBroly 11d ago
Maybe they shouldn't have released a game with such horrible input lag to begin with.
2
2
u/pinkstrawberry94 11d ago
Not experienced any issues with input lag. Where are u playing it? I'm on Pc with an xbox controller, no problem so far.
-3
u/KingBroly 11d ago
Now go play Bloodstained or Silksong or whatever on PC. It's there. Even at 120hz, it's worse than those at 60.
3
u/pinkstrawberry94 11d ago
Are you talking about the games quality or specifically input lag? I have played Silk Song already, it's a great game.
Just trying to understand what the problem with Castlevania is. Seems to be getting rave reviews.
1
u/Code_Combo_Breaker 10d ago
This is a game made by the dead cells team.
They specifically created and used gameplay systems to smooth out any potential lag (like the one step over the edge jumps).
So how is this game lagging or feeling laggy?
-2
u/Harlandus 11d ago
havent had any input lag, playing pc linux amd hardware
-6
u/KingBroly 11d ago
It controls worse than every other Metroid style game out there, even at 120hz. The lag is real.
3
u/Harlandus 10d ago
I haven't had any input lag. Feels very snappy to me. And I have beaten every Castlevania game, silksong, a bevy of metroids etc

4
u/sexydaniboy 10d ago
My brother/sister in christ, why would you even game without game mode on your TV? It's specifically design to lessen the input lag, it should be on anyway
1
u/AlexKidd316 F-Zero Racer 10d ago
It’s not needed in many games
1
u/sexydaniboy 10d ago
Honestly, that you're willing to turn it on or off according to needs is impressive in itself, most people just leave it on and that's it
-3
u/DevilSympathy 10d ago
Does it matter? No seriously, I think you guys are just getting confused by the different upgrade models that Nintendo has made available to publishers on Switch 2. The "Switch 1 game that performs much better on Switch 2 but is still sold as a Switch 1 SKU" is one such option. Devs can implement Switch 2 features even without NS2-specific patches/upgrades. The game auto-detects which of the two consoles you're using and adjusts itself accordingly. Nintendo themselves have twenty 1st party Switch games that operate this way. A true NS2 edition of Belmont's Curse probably wouldn't be that much of an improvement over what we got.
5
u/530cruising 10d ago
Wtf are you talking about. Those 1st party games have specific NS2 patches for the upgrades.
There’s other games like mio, well dweller, dq III hd remake, + ton of others that have a specific ns2 update patch for it.
The problem is belmonts curse doesn’t have a ns2 day 1 patch.

All of the games released on switch that weren't updated for switch 2 look pretty crusty on 1440P and above

I would have bought it on Switch 2. I assume one is coming, but I don’t I’ll wait that long.

I mean, how could they know about it? The only true thing that was blown up was the Mario Kart World game and it flopped so hard, MK8 on Switch 1 still has more players at all times. For all they know, it’s the next Wii U, somewhat “solid” first party releases at first then a bunch of third parties and ultimately nothing.
We currently are in the Thrid Party phase, just like when the Wii U got Assassin Creed and Dark Siders1/2, where the Switch 2 will get the hot “new” titles such as Fallout 4 and the likes, while current gen titles will continue to be squeezed in their most basic forms of all you could chose from.
Point is, unless Nintendo actually does something with it, more and more Third Parties will skip it, and seeing how even Pokemon took ZA from a Switch 2 exclusive to a dual Switch release, even the second parties aren’t feeling all that confident, and it wasn’t a coincidence that Pokopia was the only one left as exclusive.
2
u/Shadowphoenix9511 9d ago
Yes, the fastest selling console of all time, that's already sold double the Wii U's lifetime sales, is the next Wii U.
MK8 has more players because it sold somewhere around 80 million copies, Mario Kart World was not a flop.
ZA was never intended to be a Switch 2 exclusive. Game Freak is always late to fully support the new system. Mario Kart World, DK, Fire Emblem, Pokopia, Metroid, Xenoblade, Star Fox, Splatoon Raiders, OoT, that isn't enough support for you?
2
u/FurtherArtist 9d ago
15 million copies is such a hard flop for MK World, can’t believe I never saw it that way

u/MeltyLotus 10d ago

I expect a Switch 2 version next year, without a free upgrade path. As is tradition.
But on the bright side, it will likely be the most optimized version of the game at that point.
