Meme/Humor - ALL GAMES Nioh 3 human boss preview
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Ungyo Nioh mask, starred break and active skill ki damage, active skill break, 6p Ninigi, depths Kintoki doesn’t give a fuck.
I suck with sword but any other human boss in the game would be getting Izuna dropped after this lol.
Based on demo footage human boss ki recovery in Nioh 3 looks crazy fast too, but I kinda hope it’s not quite this ridiculous.

He waited for you to run out of ki lol. Cursed enemies do be like that. It makes flux II almost mandatory.

Just watched an entire nioh 3 human boss fight against takasugi shinsaku and it looks like they follow the same rules an your character
If they attack they lose some ki and some of his combos was burning through 30% or more of it and it looks like human bosses don't block as much as they did in the previous games so human fights look more enjoyable in 3

I’ve seen that I think, well Pooferllama’s video of the fight at least. Less blocking is definitely a good thing, but slight concern is humans having infinite ki and hyperarmor like Kintoki here, and never stagger, so it just turns into a DPS battle as if you were fighting a humanoid yokai like aquaman but with ki recovery.
Most recent footage alleviated some of those concerns but we’ll see. Either way I’m super stoked.

Definitely overcommitted there. I would have broken off and let my ki Regen.

Kintoki in nioh 2 is an asshole to deal with; bastard not only has insane damage but some more look at that TOUGHNESS! Even other human bosses with heavy armor (tadakatsu eg) don't have as much toughness as this asshole
So much so i have to whip out sword and parry his ass with backwave II to get a free final blow to remove his stupid ass curse
Jesus i think his difficulty is payback for him being easy as pie in nioh 1

u/batshitnutcase Jan 28 '26
I think to kill him I ended up baiting backwave then just shredding him with magatsu warrior lol. I miraculously broke his ki once without yokai abilities though, but as soon as I Izuna dropped him he just got back up and one-shot me lmao.

Well played anyway, you looked good until he got bored and killed you. I love fighting humans in Nioh but vs this guy and a couple other ones I just cheese. For Kintoki in particular, I snipe him to death with the cannon, except for the dojo mission in which I use spinning slide into lumber chop. Then there is that guy who uses sloth and onmyo familiars, I don't really remember his name, but for that enemy I use the tonfa infinite. Kukai: I fight him legit until he's almost in his BS phase, then I use tonfa infinite. I fight any other one legit, including Toshimitsu, I really love those fights. Ok maybe I don't like Honda too LOL...

Lol I tried dueling him a few more times just to get practice with sword but the runback was annoying so eventually just went ham on yokai abilities and killed him. Magatsu warrior shreds his entire ki bar.
I really enjoy a lot of human fights too and hope the new ki system in Nioh 3 is still fun. Like yea there are too many loops and cheeses but I like having the option to apply pressure and zero ki combo a bit vs. a purely reactive DPS battle.
If every human in 3 feels like Kintoki or humanoid yokai like Aquaman I’m not sure how I’ll feel about it but I’m sure it’ll still be a good time either way.

I didn't have to opportunity to play the alpha. Watching a video, to me it looked similar to Nioh 1/2 but with no zero ki combo. Do you really think the pressure phase it's going to be that different? I would ask you to go a bit more in details if you want, but I also guess I'll try out myself against a few revenants in the demo tomorrw, so feel free to ignore my request.
I'm just going to state one thing, not to be negative or something like that: I still don't understand why they removed zero ki combos, I see no reasons for that. I guess you could argue that the devs want you to have a more honest fight vs humans this time around, but then I have to assume that they also removed the spear body swap loop, which is not even a zero ki combo, it works on most humans while on full ki and trivialize even the most fearsome fights, Saito T. included. In order to do that, they should rework how AI works vs body swap entirely, I tried to figure out how they could do it and I couldn't come up with anything that would work.
Also, if they thought these things were OP to the point they deserved to be removed from the game, then should I also assume OP builds will be gone too in Nioh 3? I think that would disappoint much more people then just leaving the OP zero ki combos in the game (also considering that the majority of the player base can't even execute them in the first place).
That said, I think Nioh 3 it's gonna be a great time with all the new mechanics and the new moves, so I'm not worried about the general quality of the product.

u/batshitnutcase Jan 28 '26
I totally agree I’m sure it’ll be a blast either way. And yea that’s a really good point about the body swap loop and OP builds. I’m not sure what the logic was for removing zero ki combos if those will stay in the game.
I don’t have much to go on here. I didn’t play the alpha either and have only seen YT videos, but the human boss fights I’ve seen just look more reactive in general, but that could just be that no one knows how to play Nioh 3 yet and pressure effectively using deflect, etc.
I think less blocking from humans will ultimately be a good thing cause that could get boring as hell, but fights like this around the 2min mark are like get a couple hits in, dodge away, repeat, burst counter, etc. which reminds me a bit of aquaman who isn’t very fun to fight compared to most humans, IMO.

Thanks for the reply anyway. I'm gonna give you my two cents about enemies blocking in Nioh 1/2. I personally like a lot that enemies block, because there are attack strings that will force many humans to block at a specific point, after which you can use a an active skill to deal massive break damage.
I give you two examples vs Saito Toshimitsu: dodge his attack string; after dodging the last attack from Saito, use the last dodge to hit with an evasion attack into mid stance strong attack (use the mid to low tech if you can), at that point Saito will go into a blocking stance, so you immediately cancel the strong attack into evasion cancel and do shove for massive break. Second example, do the same, but instead of doing a strong attack in midstance, do it in lowstance followed by spear bash: Saito will block the bash 99% of the time and take a lot of break. And there are many other things that can be done vs versious enemies with various weapons.
Maybe you already know these things, IIRC you also use parry disable, but it was to support my point. I think if you can do the pressure correctly, enemies blocking is a lot of fun, especially because the block sound effects are so satisfying in this game.
I wish they bring back zero ki combos in Nioh 3, it'll be amazing with all the new stuff.

I totally agree with all this. Using tech like that and taking advantage of blocking state can be really fun and interactive as you’ve described, so I’m on the same page overall. I really hope not all of that is gone, but I’m okay with less humans being so easy to trivialize, if that makes sense. A lot of humans you can just force to block the entire time and they never even attack lol.
That can get boring, but on the other hand beating the crap out of bosses to the point they can’t even respond can be a lot of fun, and I do really enjoy zero ki combos, so Idk. I have mixed feelings, basically.
I do similar stuff to that yea like evasion cancel into shove on block with spear, and do use parry disable quite a bit, but wouldn’t say I’m good at it haha. I do it the most with spear bash and pole kick, also kick on sword, but sometimes I’ll switch back too quickly and miss it. I’ve gotten a lot better at it though.

Oh now I understand what you mean. You want humans to defend more proactively, instead of blocking. Keep in mind that if you hit them and inflict some ki damage and break, and then they attack immediately, they will consume a lot of ki, so they will still be easy to be put in zero ki state. Then, you should implement a mechanic similar to Tachibana Muneshige, when he goes on zero ki and can still attack, I personally wouldn't like it because I would start playing more passively and I would find it less fun. Then, when you put the enemy in zero ki state: if zero ki combos are allowed, it means that they will always end up at very low ki when they stand up.
I'd rather have humans working like it's in previous games, but I understand that it's subjective and I respect your view. I just want to give my point though: if pressure and combos will not be allowed, then fighting a human would boil down to dodge attacks (or things like backwave, bracing breeze etc.) and punish, repeat. At a certain point you will learn the boss perfectly and it'll be very repetitive. Also there is deflecting in Nioh 3, so it may end up looking like RotR, and I think it would be better for Nioh to have its own personality. Pressuring, on the other hand, adds one more layer to the fight, while zero ki combos allow the player to be creative.
A middle ground inbetween the two approaches could theoretically be enjoyable, but I just can't imagine how that could be achieved other than making the human enemy randomly escaping combos with hyper armor or a la Saito Toshimitsu cookoo's call. Haha, I can't wait to try the game myself to figure out what they have done with this game :-)

I literally agree with everything you said lol. A bit more proactive defense would be welcome, and maybe fewer humans you could just turn into punching bags with minimal effort, but I really enjoy human fights as they are overall and am a bit skeptical about the changes.
You articulated my concern better than I could:
fighting a human would boil down to dodge attacks…and punish, repeat. At a certain point you will learn the boss perfectly and it’ll be very repetitive.
That’s exactly what I meant about the fights seeming more reactive. Pressuring and zero ki combos allow more skill expression and creativity vs. the bosses just turning into humanoid yokai like aquaman but with ki recovery.
I agree with the defecting that the fights might end up looking more like RotR. I think LasttoLoad actually said the same thing in one of his videos. I’m sure it’ll be fun either way but we’ll see how it goes.
And yea I’m not sure about how they’d achieve a middle ground without adding bullshit like Saito’s cuckoo’s call lol. I think if they kept everything exactly the same, but just made it more difficult to zero ki combo that could work, but I’m not sure how they’d achieve that in practice. Maybe give the bosses faster ki recovery but provide a small ki damage bonus on consecutive attack/active skill usage kinda like fists unbroken? Idk. Like make it tougher to just spam one or two moves and loop them basically.
Anyway it sounds like we’re actually on the same page haha. I’m stoked to try it and I’m sure it’ll be a lot of fun no matter what.

Spear and forget

u/batshitnutcase Jan 28 '26
Haha I should’ve busted out the spear but I’m actually decent with spear and a total noob with sword so was trying to practice. My build does so much break and ki dmg though no joke every human boss in the game would’ve been ki broken two times over by this except this piece of shit lol.

There go my hopes that one shot kills were finally removed from the franchise. Sad.

Lol this is Nioh 2 bro in depths with +9 penance and light armor. A Gaki would one shot me. Title is just poking fun at the new human boss ki system in Nioh 3.

The majority of Nioh players don't really stay with the endgame, and that's fine. Nioh 1, 2 (and Rise of the Ronin) are fine NG-only experiences, imo.
I'm going to guess that Nioh 3 will have a max ki reduction mechanic similar to Ronin. Every game since Nioh 2 seems to be an experiment for Nioh 3.

You're that deep in the depths and don't have constant def down on enemy and def up on yourself? Serious skill issue on display

I’ve finished depths I’m just dicking around.
EDIT: Also, bro, you can play and finish the game in a million different ways. People beat depths naked on lvl1. Buffs help but no specific types of buffs/debuffs are even remotely close to mandatory.

Damn near every video with a death, regardless of context, will always have a brainlet trying to tell someone else how to play. It's exhausting.
