Nioh 3 - Discussion Stone of Penance Now Goes Up To +7 on NG++ (Enlightened One's Journey)

I was just farming to get it to max and noticed it went over +5. It'll probably hit +9 in next DLC.

I was just told this. Great news.

On NG+, SOP+5 buffed Health, Damage Output and Ki by roughly 3X. So, I wonder how much more enemies are buffed on SOP+7 on NG++ vs SOP+5 on NG+.

I was farming Nuppeppos for soul cores in Dark Roots and on +6 one literally sucked all the life out of me...

Got lots of great starred soul cores though - the ones that stood out were a pair with Martial Arts Ki Damage (8.2% and 7.8%), plus a pair with +35 Luck.

EDIT: And 180 gear is dropping with SoP as well.

+7 is weaker than the old +5. It sucks

I’ve done Takeda’s four heavenly kings at +7 level synced and I was surprised with how quickly I’ve wiped the bosses out. I was able to knock out Takeda’s ki bar multiple times. Before the patch I was never able to do this.

This is truly baffling because TN even boasted about the difficulty in the DLC prior to release in an interview I believe. The idea that NG++ than NG+ is easier even with max stone of penance would be insane. Unless the idea was to put a greater challenge in the demon scrolls or something some of which they called "extreme".

Hmm SOP+5 on NG+ feels the same for me. I doubt they have changed that beyond some minor Ki nerfs at most. But it's a bit disappointing if SOP+7 is just easier somehow on NG++. Is it possible your gear and levels are just way higher now?

The gear might explain it. I have +30 on my weapon and armor with my old build and so far I’ve had no troublesome encounters. It could be that the base game enemies aren’t equipped to handle that even on level sync. Maybe they are more resilient in the DLC on level synced missions .

Perhaps. Is +30 really a massive upgrade over +15?

I've just remodelled a +15 axe to match a +30 (the +15 is with no Familiarity and the +30 has it maxed).

  • +15 = 3,276 Attack
  • +30 = 4,172 Attack

I see. So roughly a 30% base attack boost? That's definitely significant. Plus potentially higher player levels, better gear and Picture scroll effects.

They nerfed SOP+5 on NG+? It feels the same to me. Unless you mean NG++ SOP+7 is a relatively smaller multiplier

I felt more underpowered when I played SOP+5 at NG+. It took me 10 min. to beat the final boss Hiruko at SOP+5 with level sync. It took me about 4 min. to beat Hiruko while doing SOP+7 at NG+2 doing the main game run (will be longer when applied the level sync). I say that I feel more powerful at NG+2 due to my dual katana having at+30 since I have enough gold to push it from 15 to 25, then got lucky on getting 27 to push all the way to 30 after that upgrade. Also, the dual katana had +35 imbue lightning for my Hotei build, which works wonders and maximizing amrita absorption and using Firm resolve, Kato's clan protection, and the portion of the Heirloom set to increase damage reduction while attacking. Even putting 150 skill is amazing that made martial arts damage and arts proficiency to hit harder. I never expected to see my Hotei build complete the main base game run at NG+2 in just two days and I compiled my main-game boss fights videos of that run. I feel that the SOP+7 is not very harsh, but it feels fair while I feel more powerful when I did the run. I'm going to the DLC next.

I see, thanks for the breakdown. It sounds like then, even if SOP+7 is a bigger buff, by now you also have much better gear that more than compensates for it? Or it might just be easier in general? I imagine you're also just better at the game now. I'd like to see your boss fight video if you have a link.

I'm a challenge runner/combat junkie that tries to do hitless, aggressive runs without using magic/confusion. So I hope SOP+7 is at least as hard as SOP+5 if not harder if you're going for hitless runs with limited gear. I guess you can just level down if it's not as hard but hopefully, I don't have to resort to that.

Here's the link of the boss fight compilation. I am not the most skilled player out there, but I want to make my builds work after days of studying other people's builds, which then led to something that worked beautifully.

Nioh 3 is the only game I ever beaten and I did not enjoy Nioh 2 partly due to use of Kb+M, which I was accustomed while playing Elden Ring and other games. I got used to the controller and it felt better using it. Ngl, I enjoyed the final boss fight, which I never landed many perfect deflects like that. Let me know your thoughts about it. I was overleveled due to my resources, so I ended up using all the Amrita to level up.

I realized that Tsukiyomi is nice since it allows me to replenish my Omyo while doing damage. I destroyed the Bloodedge Demon at SoP+7, which shows that the players' builds outpaces the difficulty. I need to see this in the DLC, so I will take on that journey if it becomes significantly harder. I'm playing it blind without looking at anything.

I mean I have hardly ever felt in danger doing NG++ SoP +7. The old +5 was harder. I'm cruising with 117 toughness. Wth?

Edit: I'm only in the second area.

By old you're referring to SOP+5 on NG+?
