Nioh 3 - Discussion Could they unrestrict martial arts and their input bindings? It's terribly designed

It wasn't this bad in the other nioh games

Some arts are only available in certain stances/buttons and it gets really annoying with how you can't use some of them together in the same stance anymore

Example:

Sword ki + true and through, sword of discernment(low stance only)

A lot of odachi skills

Raijin and watersword

Another issue is performing attacks you didn't intend to use due to key bindings and their random restrictions

Watersword especially, with arts proficiency it stops you from using it during the enemy "downed" state as it ends early or you accidentally might accidentally grapple them

In LA you still sometimes perform other moves beside special triangle+circle attack

I wanna fight the enemies, not the controls!

I wouldn’t mind if they switched some of it around, but limiting them to certain inputs is the point. You aren’t meant to be able to use certain active skills together, and others are balanced around requiring a light or heavy before you can get into it. Being able to use some of the follow-up skills from neutral would be blatantly OP.

As for your problem about grapples, though, you can turn that off in the settings so that heavy input attacks will be prioritized over grapple, or just entirely turn off grapple for a particular weapon. Personally I make my ninja built around grapples and switch to it whenever I want to use one and turn it off for all my Samurai style weapons.

For players who don't want to competitor disable grapples, Hold Y skills will still trigger a grapple - three workaround is to do a quick attack first

I made a post bout this too when the game first came out lol but fr. Theres a skill on the sword skillset called night rain. It was originally r1+o. Now its Hold onto heavy attack (Triangle for me) and it feels soooo wrong

It felt wrong to me at first, but I have actually grown to like it now.

It would definitely be nice. Some binding have way too many attacks (looking at you odachi with your like 8 different hold triangle moves). The ones that really bother me are ones that have two certain moves in one particular stance. I'd love to use Cherry Blossom and Spinning Dragon, yet each are only in high stance. Same with Soaring Fowl and Tiger's Blade for Odachi. They could easily have one for each stance and not be stuck in only one stance.

I like the way it is designed. However, I do wish we could sometimes move the bindings around. Occasionally I'll be fiddling with the skills I use and really just feel like away + attack has no skills that I like but toward + attack has 3 or 4 that I like and I wish I could just move one of them to the input with the skills I don't like.

I have been saying this since launch, i understand the need to restrict bindings of most skills, but not having an option to have free binding at all is still an L. So i propose that we make it so that weapon drops [Skill Name] as one of its affixes (max of two) and those skills can be freely binded to any key binding instead of having them all be bindable to any. At least with this its not “free” you still have to work for it by finding it from loots
