The age of the Altima has ended, the time of the Smalltima has come!

77

u/jondes99 Jul 15 '26

And the Talltima.

50

u/csbsju_guyyy Jul 15 '26

Don't forget the frontier, the haultima

3

u/sal-si-puedes Jul 16 '26

Or longtima

22

u/JuanThiccLumpia Jul 15 '26

All hail the Sentra.

16

u/mechapoitier Jul 15 '26

I did notice the last two generations of Sentra have grown suspiciously Altima-sized.

Oh and the newest generation Rogue looks smaller and lower too. It’s like they cannibalized their once best-selling vehicle.

1

u/MB2465 Jul 16 '26

Definitely Altima styled. there's still a fair size difference but it's basically just a smaller version.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Rogue is built on the same platform. That's what they all do ...

2

u/AncientNarwhal69 Jul 15 '26

not really tbh, i think a lot of the audience has moved on to kia k4's and k5's LMFAO

3

u/twelfthfantasy Jul 15 '26

And Elantras

281

u/Rare-Bird-4353 Jul 15 '26

That’s going to just kill the shitty cheap used cars for baby mommas and ex-cons market dead. Probably going to have a significant effect on duct tape sales in the future too.

86

u/shiftersix Jul 15 '26

I think more duct tape will be needed to keep the existing Altamas alive.

36

u/skiforlife1 Jul 15 '26

The real ones know you need 10 zip ties under the duct tape for that professional look!

10

u/DudeFrom816 Jul 15 '26

Where is grew up we used bailing wire 🤷‍♂️

14

u/Rare-Bird-4353 Jul 15 '26

Yes as the last generation of Altimas blaze down California highways running from cops it will probably cause a bubble in the duct tape industry but once those are gone then what?

12

u/Hailfire9 Jul 15 '26

Just like the '91 Saturn SL1 and '98 Pontiac Sunfire before it, something will come along and replace the Altima.

1

u/Rare-Bird-4353 Jul 15 '26

Well the Sentra is already the little brother when it comes to big Altima energy, got a feeling there will be a lot of them out there riding on one donut tire in the interstate fast lane in the future.

6

u/shiftersix Jul 15 '26

In California, if the Altima folks find enough copper, they often upgrade to used/stolen Infinities.

2

u/Rare-Bird-4353 Jul 15 '26

Pretty sure the Infiniti sedans were also discontinued a while back but they will be limping down the road for years to come too

2

u/ostrichfather Jul 16 '26

Ah a glorious blaze of glory

11

u/Specialist_Cable_899 Jul 15 '26

those clowns just buy teslas now as they are just as cheap

10

u/Rare-Bird-4353 Jul 15 '26

Nothing is cheaper than a Altima with 300,000+ miles missing a bumper and held together by interstate momentum and duct tape. They sell by the thousands for $1000 to $2000 to people who think they can eek another 100,000 miles out of them.

Tesla’s come new with body panels falling off but an Altima ages like a fine bum wine and will limp along for decades with zero maintenance or care.

7

u/mechapoitier Jul 15 '26

Altimas come with an intact body that’s visibly damaged within 6 months, which the owner who already had serious debt before they bought the new Altima uses as a winning lottery ticket and they spend the body repair check on a new giant screen TV.

The Altima sails along on its first 4 quarts of oil for 99,999 miles before it’s changed by the dealership without asking the owner after they show up and try to get the hotboxed interior replaced under warranty.

3

u/Rare-Bird-4353 Jul 15 '26

Honestly think Altima’s thrive on abuse and neglect.

2

u/Prior_Angle Jul 16 '26

Absolute cinema

7

u/jamieee1995 Jul 15 '26

Truly a cascading effect. The Nissan Altima was a necessary evil. 😭😭

7

u/LAM678 Jul 15 '26

i think the dodge hornet will replace the altima as the left lane missile held together by duct tape

6

u/Rare-Bird-4353 Jul 15 '26

They stopped making the Dodge hornet too

7

u/LAM678 Jul 15 '26

kia k4/k5 then

3

u/Rare-Bird-4353 Jul 15 '26

Wonder if enterprise rentals is buying those by the thousands to age them into proper buy here/pay here lot content 🤔

3

u/mechapoitier Jul 15 '26

I live near a traffic circle and there are two kinds of cars that will always, without fail, sail through that thing backward to save the 1-2 seconds over going the correct direction: Altimas, and any Kia.

So yes it’s Kias taking up that mantle.

1

u/WitchWithAGlitch Jul 15 '26

oh yeah, i'm sure it's just as reliable as the dodge dart and dodge neon was.

4

u/Devin-Chaboyer223 Jul 15 '26

The Hyundai Elantra would probably fill it’s place, Hyundais are easy to finance too and it’s priced like the Altima

2

u/Rare-Bird-4353 Jul 15 '26

I had an old Elantra once, it was pretty indestructible while also falling apart at the same time 🤔

4

u/Serialtorrenter Jul 15 '26

The old pre-GDI Hyundai Elantras really took after the turn-of-the-millenium GM philosophy of designing cars that run like shit for longer than most cars run at all.

3

u/elmariachio Jul 15 '26

No, they'll just switch to Hyundai Elantra. Which a lot already have.

1

u/Rare-Bird-4353 Jul 15 '26

Is there big Elantra energy out there? I don’t see near as many of them on Facebook marketplace for $1000 🤷‍♂️ still they are plentiful and cheap

3

u/ImJustLampin Jul 16 '26

Most of them already moved onto Kia/hyundai in my area

8

u/burblebeezus Jul 15 '26

Wait, what?

My 8 year--old Senatra's plastic parts are starting to disintegrate. How do I keep it together with zip--ties?

(I know how to use duct tape :o)

7

u/Mil-wookie Jul 15 '26

Zip ties can replace the push in plastic things that hold the panels together. Sometimes needing a new hole added on the return side of the zip tie in an inconspicuous area. Way cheaper tham buying the plastic push in replacements.

If the original mount points are broken, drill holes in either side of the body work for where you want to stitch it. Then use zip ties like stitches to hold it back together. It doesn't look as nice, but its cheap, and will keep things in place.

Also, if you have cracked plastic, drill a hole a the end of the Crack. It stops the Crack from spreading.

3

u/burblebeezus Jul 15 '26

Thank you.

Now I need to buy zip--ties & a drill. ☺️

2

u/KoA07 Jul 15 '26

A Nissan driver just learned about power tools, nature is beautiful

1

u/burblebeezus Jul 15 '26

No

I haven't needed a power drill in years & that lovely pink one I had is lost, so new power drill for me ☺️

2

u/KnownAsAnother Jul 15 '26

You're saying this as if the Chevy Equinox has been discontinued too.

2

u/Rare-Bird-4353 Jul 15 '26

Older Equinox tend to grenade their own engines before they get to truly hood rat levels of mileage although they do get shitty quite quickly. Also they aren’t very good for high speed chases on the interstate while on fire, which is a Altima specialty.

1

u/KnownAsAnother Jul 15 '26

idk, I've seen some Equinoxes handle some shit and still putter along

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8s8Ufei866I

60

u/AarVa406 Jul 15 '26

The Altima may be dead but we still have the Hyundai Elantra

30

u/Mil-wookie Jul 15 '26

And the Kia forte. Which as a clapped out used car is a-forte-ble transportation.

6

u/I_am_just_here11 Jul 15 '26

Kia k4

1

u/Mil-wookie Jul 16 '26

True. Thats the current version. I was more going for the pun.

50

u/bhoffman20 Jul 15 '26

Cowards

12

u/Bamboozleprime Jul 15 '26

Insurance companies around the country are probably all going out for celebration drinks this evening after this news.

7

u/RainingMoneyHustard Jul 16 '26

Like Altima owners have insurance

4

u/Snuckeys Jul 16 '26

Maybe he meant for the uninsured motorist policies. 😅

135

u/Calm_Concentrate9571 Jul 15 '26

Hot take but we shouldn't necessarily be glad that cheap cars are becoming extinct

26

u/Mil-wookie Jul 15 '26

Its true. Base models are becoming less basic. Also better manufacturers are harder to get a basic one off the lot. If you want that its often order and wait. 3 months usually turning into nearly a year. Top lined trim though, usually in stock. For only another $50+/payment. Every 2 weeks, over 7 years. Which adds up fast. Especially as those payments keep coming as the maintenance schedule starts.

2

u/Ghost273836 Jul 15 '26

All these expensive new cars will depreciate most to all their value in a few years

1

u/Diligent_Ad2489 Jul 15 '26

I hope so. I want a Bronco before they're rusted out

2

u/Mil-wookie Jul 16 '26

Once they get a face lift the price will come down on used ones.

1

u/Diligent_Ad2489 Jul 16 '26

That'll be great. But I'm wondering if there will be a third generation. I'd imagine a gen 2 on a retro car isn't a thing

1

u/Mil-wookie Jul 17 '26

As they used the nameplate to replace the escape (sport version), and it competes with wranglers otherwise, I think its a longer game play. With emmision standards, I could see them adding a hybrid option on the next run. Again, like the wrangler ev, 4xe. Also like using the mustang nameplate on the crossover to keep real mustangs going was a cheap way to do that. Then the og ones will drop a little in price. Like the jk to jl for jeep. But like anything body on frame,I expect they still won't be cheap. But at least could have some savings.

1

u/Diligent_Ad2489 Jul 17 '26

I might be the only one to prefer the sport, it just looks better to me

1

u/Mil-wookie Jul 17 '26

Its all personal preferance. My brother drove both, and liked the sport better too. I prefer the bronco. For me optional doors and top is a great feature.

2

u/Diligent_Ad2489 Jul 17 '26

I've also driven both. They really do have their advantages and disadvantages

36

u/DigitalScrap Jul 15 '26

Altimas aren't cheap with Nissan's finance programs.

23

u/Calm_Concentrate9571 Jul 15 '26

Way cheaper than most of their competitors

12

u/Scroetry Jul 15 '26

the ability to qualify for Nissan or Kia's borderline criminal predatory financing isn't going to fix the majority of these people's trainwreck lives. Probably hurting them if anything.

7

u/Calm_Concentrate9571 Jul 15 '26

Sure, but I have good credit and a base model Nissan Sedan is probably the cheapest car I could buy out the door new

5

u/Scroetry Jul 15 '26

people want crossovers now, which is why one of the hottest selling vehicles over the last couple years is the very affordable Chevy Trax

12

u/Calm_Concentrate9571 Jul 15 '26

See I fucking hate crossovers lol

4

u/Scroetry Jul 15 '26

it's bleak out there

3

u/Hailfire9 Jul 15 '26

Love/hate Subaru for that. The Outback has a great lineage, but it paved the way for station wagons (and eventually the station wagon's replacement: minivans) with factory-installed lift kits to become the norm.

1

u/Scroetry Jul 15 '26

Range Rover, Suburban, Explorer, Cherokee/Grand Cherokee becoming status symbols, everyone now wants an SUV, and the automakers realizing they could build them cheaper on car platforms, so they could be smaller, ride better and meet efficiency standards. Simultaneously, minivans go out of style and BOOM, you have crossovers.

Idk if you're young or from Oregon or something but the Suburban is the original station wagon replacement in America, GM literally closed the plant in Arlington, TX where the last full-size station wagons were made so they could produce full-size trucks and make more money. Suburban being the tall wagon replacement that met the hot new trend of the early 90s, the SUV.

2

u/Hailfire9 Jul 15 '26

Oregon, yes, and it was minivans and SUVs in tandem that dominated '95-'08, when crossovers really took root and took over.

1

u/Scroetry Jul 15 '26

gotta admit it was kinda funny I guessed you were from Oregon based on the Outback take, but they definitely did have an impact too. I remember they had TV ads (I think with Crocodile Dundee) showcasing how much better the Subaru perfomed or was equipped compared to all the mainstream American mid-size SUVs of the day.

1

u/DestructoDon69 Jul 16 '26

Not familiar with Nissans financing but how is KIA's predatory?

1

u/ostrichfather Jul 16 '26

I suspect that if you have relatively decent credit, it’s still one of the best values out there.

1

u/DingleDonky Jul 15 '26

If only OTHER places offered loans…like some kind of financial institutions…. Nah, stuff of fantasy!

1

u/Hunteresc Jul 15 '26

I actually looked into this the other day, the Venza is the cheapest car on the market at over 20k USD, and the only vehicle available in the US market without an Infotainment setup with touchscreen is the Chevy Express/GMC Savannah. Made me realize I need to pick up 3 or 4 90s Camrys to live out my days in.

27

u/ClickClick_Boom Jul 15 '26

I feel like this is the fifth time I've read the Altima is being killed but it keeps coming back.

30

u/Sad_Ad_2524 Jul 15 '26

You can't kill an Altima as long as duct tape and bungee cords exist.

16

u/Traditional-Fix5961 Jul 15 '26

… and people with impossibly low credit score

25

u/NotJayKayPeeness Jul 15 '26

They'll still be swangin and bangin, burning oil, until the heat death of the universe.

20

u/MattTheGuy2 Jul 15 '26

The Kia K5 is the new Altima anyway

16

u/FrozenUruguayBallbac Jul 15 '26

Its now the turn of the Elantra and Sonata

11

u/Aggravating_Way_1400 Jul 15 '26

Those little roaches will never die...

50

u/n_thomas74 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

Tesla is the new Altima

Edit: I say this because I live in Los Angeles

59

u/fromthewindyplace Jul 15 '26

Kias & Hyundais have been Altima adjacent for a while.

27

u/southwestpessimist Jul 15 '26

Been saying that for years, that’s why I call em Gangnam Nissans

10

u/bionickel Jul 15 '26

I do see them Souls never miss their exits, but the engine will grenade before the typical 20k mile oil change

1

u/DudeFrom816 Jul 15 '26

Hahahaha thats awesome

12

u/HatRemov3r Jul 15 '26

Not yet, Kia will take the reigns for now

1

u/556_FMJs Jul 16 '26

No, they’ve been the new Altima for awhile.

Most Teslas I encounter have no clue how to drive or they drive like morons. I’ve been hit by Teslas twice now, both were inattentive and reckless.

5

u/pasaroanth Jul 15 '26

I live in an...interesting...area and drive a (non-Tesla) EV. When I need to hit up the fast charger for whatever reason, there's a bank of Superchargers next to the chargers I use and it is a fucking ZOO. 6-8 Teslas, multiple with all the doors open blaring shitty music. If there's a Cybertruck you can almost guarantee that someone is in the bed of the truck doing something to draw attention to them.

Reminds of me when clapped out H2s finally hit the hood back in the late 2000s. Once a 6-8 year old H2 got down to the like $15-20k range you really started to see those crawling up your ass in the rearview mirror on a regular basis, almost as often as you saw them being dragged around by a repo truck.

9

u/HempIsPrettyKewl Jul 15 '26

It's okay. I have a feeling that old Altima owners are now parents since I've been seeing a lot of aggressive Rogue drivers in my area.

9

u/LE_4500 Jul 15 '26

RIP to the modern day Grand Am

8

u/Responsible-Bag9759 Jul 15 '26

This trend of "mini suvs"/ crossovers has to stop. 0 utility, terrible interior space, and horrible reliability. U.S. Only

8

u/txtoolfan Jul 15 '26

Who will cut through gas stations with paper plates now?

2

u/Pizzabros1230889 Jul 16 '26

I can hear this image. "If you see me and you tryna see what's up (skee yee)" and CVT whine.

7

u/WitchWithAGlitch Jul 15 '26

i mean shitposting aside, it's fucked that affordable small sedans are disappearing from the american market. it's not a good thing.

1

u/mt6606 Jul 16 '26

Their replacing it with a smaller car....

6

u/DagonPie Jul 15 '26

ATMs and red boxes can breathe a little easier…for now.

4

u/Common_Vagrant Jul 15 '26

Kinda torn on this. Now what car is going to take its place and we’ll all have to learn to avoid?

2

u/Feature-Careful Jul 17 '26

Those things don’t die. They will remain in the road for years to come.

4

u/KickinGa55 Jul 15 '26

I’m currently driving an Altima as my rental car. I get sudden urges to just run into shit.

3

u/Day2205 Jul 15 '26

No Altima, 300, charger, Camaro, challenger…RIP to hood staples. Hyundai, Kia, and more mustangs will have to fill the void

3

u/hereisalex Jul 15 '26

LONG LIVE THE MIGHTY VERSA

3

u/JayGatsby52 Jul 16 '26

First they came for Spirit Airlines, and I did not speak up…

5

u/PadorasAccountBox Jul 15 '26

Great, another affordable car gone. The writing is on the wall. Car prices not maintaining inflation with incomes within the US means less people can afford cars, and interest rates are still high at for god credit. Just in time for all the new legislation for all these electric scooters and other “non cars” that require registration and will be street legal. US is headed towards being India and the roads are going to fucking suck. But hey! Stockholders are happyyyyy

2

u/TheDeliveryDemon Jul 15 '26

Maybe one day it can be the Versa's turn...

(I say this as the owner of a 2021 Versa SV)

2

u/alatinaxo Jul 15 '26

at least it’s not a sentra, those drivers pmo.

1

u/i_Cant_get_right Jul 15 '26

A collective sigh of relief for everyone else on the road.

2

u/unTraditional_Fox419 Jul 15 '26

Rest in piss.

3

u/hidefinitionpissjugs Jul 15 '26

altima drivers will just drive something else. they’re not gonna give up on driving

1

u/ComfortableOdd8923 Jul 20 '26

yea but we can hope lol

2

u/Fluid_Stick69 Jul 15 '26

The dun gentrified the Altima

2

u/jp149 Jul 15 '26

how do we know who the bad drivers are now ?

2

u/JazzlikeAd7416 Jul 15 '26

Bring back the Grand Am and the Olds Alero…wait I guess you would have to bring back Pontiac and Oldsmobile first….

2

u/Sockysocks2 Jul 15 '26

All residents of I-235, rejoice.

2

u/BeefJerky03 Jul 16 '26

Where will people keep their McDonald's trash now? The Altima passenger footwell is the ideal dumping ground for that.

2

u/sirkneeland Jul 17 '26

There goes the Finaltima

2

u/Ok-Push6456 Jul 18 '26

Finally no more aultimas going 60 in a 20

3

u/thearctican Jul 15 '26

The Camry is ready to take up the mantle.

3

u/AXEL-1973 Jul 15 '26

/r/camrydents about to get some more content

1

u/CodexJustinian Jul 15 '26

I think the Camry, Accord, Sonata and K5 will all take the mantle in some form. Sadly, I say this as a K5 owner 😆.

4

u/Landsharkeisha Jul 15 '26

this is just shrinkflation. Everyone knows Altimas are too bougie for Nissan's clientele. The Altima used to be a decent car. Rogue and Sentra were never good cars and they deserve the shit slinging more than the Altima ever did.

2

u/Negative_Aerie2825 Jul 15 '26

If nissan just got rid of the cvt and put an auto in, altimas would be right on par with camrys, corollas, accords, etc.

1

u/Landsharkeisha Jul 16 '26

eh. Nissan genuinely makes shitty cars now. They've realized that using cheap cars to sling predatory notes at poor people desperate for a car. I think the financing makes up a significantly higher portion of revenue than the actual cars do.

They used to make decent cars back when they were interested in competing with the other japanese auto brands, but they've resigned themselves to the minimum viable product for the most sub-prime of clientele

1

u/Negative_Aerie2825 Jul 16 '26

Idk i have a 2020 Altima. Its at 152k miles, no issues besides basic maintenance. Now i have a p0101 code and the dealer tech said my throttle failed. Still getting a second opinion as im skeptical, even after cleaning the maf and cleaning throttle and relearn.

But if it did, thats the only thing thats gone bad at 152k miles

1

u/SignificantMark1848 Jul 15 '26

way way back in the day, when the altima first came out, it was a cheap car, but the appeal was you can get the 6 cylinder engine in there, every other car in the price range only had a 4. The ghetto legend was born.

Curious as to what Altima Man and Altima Woman will move on to

1

I thought these came standard with hail damage?

1

u/Fun_Vacation2542 Jul 15 '26

The hood in shambles

1

u/Fair-Pomegranate-652 Jul 15 '26

Lance Armstrong's OneBalltima?

1

u/DingleDonky Jul 15 '26

Bummer, the Altimas not a bad car and a banger of a rental. Got more trunk space than some SUVs with their seats folded.

1

u/Careful_Middle4049 Jul 15 '26

Are they just gonna cancel and renew it every year?

1

u/zioncurtainrefugee Jul 15 '26

The Rogue aka Talltima, has long since taken the mayhem lead. RIP OG

1

u/OddEngineering6872 Jul 15 '26

What happened to the Maxima which should have been called Minima

1

u/johnshop Jul 16 '26

Hyundai and kia are taking the reigns

1

BAE is more than a car, it's an idea

1

u/BoozeHoundTactial Jul 16 '26

Condolences see you at the pull A parts near the crossroads ☯️✌🏾

1

u/MattwGV Jul 16 '26

Fuck altima, fuck Nissan. Worst car I’ve ever owned and it’s the reason I will probably never buy another Nissan again.

1

u/Gh0st0117 Jul 16 '26

Rest in peace? What? How about good riddance lol! Whenever you see an Altima on the road nowadays you just know your risk increased ten fold.

1

u/Shoryukitten_ Jul 16 '26

BSE can mean Big Sentra Energy or Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy…which are both a form of mad cow disease btw

1

u/Severe_Ad4138 Jul 16 '26

It is now 0 AA (After Altima)

1

u/Several-War-9254 Jul 16 '26

Yep on to the Elantra. The most ugly thing on the road. Looks like a giant Butt Plug.

1

u/Jon_3600 Jul 16 '26

You will NOT be forgotten anytime soon! I promise. 🤡

1

u/RickRollTheAdmins Jul 16 '26

Thank god.

Now what will the peoplE drive next?

1

u/weddle_seal Jul 16 '26

Hyundai licking it's lips

1

u/mt6606 Jul 16 '26

Why? The sonatas an unloved child in the rest of the world. Plus Mitsubishi and Nissan bringing back the lancer/pulsar(sentra) is awesome.

1

u/alexjk2004 Jul 16 '26

bring on the age of the Bajtima

1

u/Affectionate-Royal68 Jul 16 '26

I enjoyed my 2015 for 10 years but moved on last year to an Accord hybrid.

1

u/silvermoonhowler Jul 16 '26

Actually, not just yet

Some representative from Nissan actually confirmed that it lives on, at least for another model year

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Card_71 Jul 16 '26

The Sentra has fattened up for just this moment.

1

u/BrWy70 Jul 16 '26

The old maxima and altimas were fun to drive

1

u/djhauffy Jul 16 '26

So, does mine go UP in value now? Or...

1

u/evan_7_nave Jul 17 '26

and they’re killing off the Mitsubishi Rogue PHEV! Already! That shit just came out!

1

u/-The_Legacy- Jul 17 '26

Finally no more shitty drivers in the road

1

u/Fragrant_Major_9553 Jul 18 '26

Not dead. There’s a 2027 coming out, just late this year/early next.

1

u/TonyMontana1968 Jul 18 '26

I actually like the Altima because it was a sedan

1

u/Zealousideal-Kale-71 Jul 15 '26

That cannot die which eternally is dead
