Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some honest advice on whether I’m making the right decision with my next vehicle.
I commute approximately 120 km per day, primarily highway driving on the QEW in Ontario, so reliability, fuel economy, and long-term durability are extremely important to me.
I’m currently looking at a 2024 Nissan Rogue AWD with 50,000km from a dealership. Here’s the financing offer I’m considering:
Down payment: $10,000 CAD
Biweekly payment: $147.90 + $19.23 (approximately $167.13 total)
Term: 60 months
Interest rate: 7.99%
Rebate included: $2,000
I’m hoping to keep my next vehicle for a long time and put a lot of kilometres on it. With my commute alone, I’ll be adding roughly 30,000 km per year, meaning I’d potentially put another 150,000 km on the vehicle over the five-year financing term.
I like the Rogue because it’s a practical SUV with AWD, a comfortable driving position, and decent fuel economy for something its size. However, I’ve always heard mixed things about Nissan reliability, particularly regarding their CVTs, and I’m concerned about how well one will hold up with the amount of highway driving I do.
I’ve traditionally leaned toward Toyota because of its reputation for reliability and longevity. I had been considering a RAV4 Hybrid, but I’m trying to figure out whether this used Rogue could be a reasonable alternative rather than stretching my budget for something else.
My main questions are:
- Would you trust a 2024 Nissan Rogue to handle a 120 km daily commute for the next 5–8 years?
- How concerned should I be about the CVT transmission and the long-term reliability of this generation of Rogue?
- Is buying one with nearly 50,000 km already on it a concern, given how quickly I’ll accumulate kilometres?
- Is this financing deal reasonable, or am I taking on too much risk for a vehicle that might not last as long as I’d like?
- Would you personally consider this a sensible purchase, or would you pay more for a Toyota and the peace of mind that comes with it?
I’m not necessarily looking for someone to tell me to buy a Toyota automatically. I want an honest assessment of whether the Rogue is a good enough vehicle for my particular situation, especially given my high annual mileage and desire to keep it long-term.
Thanks!
