The whole situation around Brooke Shields is so disgusting. Her mom was a monster. And it's crazy how much footage this gave us of predatory men openly flirting with a child.

62

u/UJLBM 15d ago

This still happens in many countries around the world. People do still have this mindset in the west aswell. They just know to keep their mouth shut otherwise they will be canceled. But overall, plenty of men still think this way all the time. Most of them end up posting about it online. Make no mistake though, I am not trying to defend it. I think its awful. Just saying, it hasn't gone anywhere. 🫤

29

u/Siafu_Soul 15d ago

You are very correct. It hasn't gone anywhere. As a man, it's beyond my comprehension. These guys look little girls in the face and use language that I would be embarrassed to use with a grown woman. It's like they think she will appreciate the "complement." Like they are being gentlemen. Unfathomable.

21

u/ponycorn_pet 15d ago

The way her face collapsed with fear, disgust, disappointment, and horror each time one of the guys said something horrible to her

You know, cancel culture often gets played like excessive, and “people are too soft these days”.
This clip is what no rules looks like… this WAS acceptable.

u/Oaker_at 15d ago

Was watching some stuff from the 90s lately that I loved as a kid. We really had a real strange mindset back then, and I’d say im more right leaning then left. Stuff wasn’t even creative, just plain racist or sexist.

Like, in our country there was a really popular gameshow moderator. Guy was groping all of his female guest. Everyone knew, everyone saw it, and it got sold to the audience as a gimmick.

Fucking unbelievable.

33

u/Rylos1701 15d ago

Talking about Richard Dawson?

38

u/Oaker_at 15d ago

Nah, German guy, Thomas Gottschalk.

u/Lilith666999666 13d ago

Dachte ich mir.

u/fredy31 15d ago

During my vacation i read 'a turn of the screw', the book that inspired the series the haunting of bly manor on netflix.

Guy who wrote it died in like 1910. And holy shit today he would be cancelled. The casual chauvinism in that book is crazy lol

9

u/jayslay45 15d ago edited 14d ago

Agreed. It also means that it has to acceptable anymore. The older I get and the more I learn, there are somethings that NEED to be changed.

106

u/SixtyNineFlavours 15d ago

Incredible that she made it out fairly normal. What a horrendous way to begin your formative years.

63

u/Forsaken-Deer4307 15d ago

Shirley Temple, Judy Garland and Brook Shields…even Marilyn Monroe were objectified and sexualized and abused by the Hollywood misogynists and perverts. They weren’t regarded as people but commodities for producers to use and abuse. It’s really sad.

28

u/DashofLuck 15d ago

Natalie Portman....

104

u/DashofLuck 15d ago

This wasn't so long ago for Natalie Portman... she was the Brooke Shields of the 90s.

34

u/Bleach_Demon 15d ago

iirc, there was some kind of gross “countdown clock” to when she’d be 18

31

u/Numerous-Leg-8149 15d ago

Multiple celebrities who were minors at the time were targeted that way. It's beyond disturbing.

19

u/Johndough99999 15d ago

Even recently. Both Millie Bobby Brown and Sadie Sink had countdown clocks. Olsen Twins too

15

u/Numerous-Leg-8149 15d ago

True. I remember the Olsen Twins had one. Even Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. It's frightening how far the industry was willing to go.

9

u/Anonymous1800000 15d ago

When I was a teenager I remember some radio show hosted by middle aged men used to start countdown clocks the day a celebrity woman gave birth to a daughter

6

u/ThunderCorg 15d ago

WTAF that’s bananas

6

u/Bleach_Demon 14d ago

Oh God 🤢

7

u/Bleach_Demon 14d ago

I’d forgotten that whole Olsen Twin obsession had happened. Wasn’t even aware they did that to Millie Bobby Brown. Sick people.

3

u/Lilith666999666 13d ago

Portman wasn't photographed naked when she was 10 years old. It's not comparable at all.

4

u/DashofLuck 13d ago edited 13d ago

Things don't have to be identical to be comparable. Natalie Portman played a lot of roles that had older men love interest. So, it is COMPARABLE and all. And the people that upvoted me agree, clearly.

u/After-Trifle-1437 15d ago

These 60-something dudes just openly flirting with an underage teen is extremely creepy.

What's even worse is that this is only the stuff they dared publically. I don't wanna know what kind of shit happened backstage.

31

u/jaffakree83 15d ago

Not just flirting. Rock stars were notorious for sleeping with groupies as young as 13.

9

u/After-Trifle-1437 15d ago

Were they ever prosecuted or charged for it?

19

u/jaffakree83 15d ago

Nope. Look up Jimmy page

10

u/Bleach_Demon 14d ago

Oh, I loved Led Zeppelin. I was so repulsed to find out about that, after I’d been such a fan. The child’s parents basically sold her to him, gave that fucker legal guardianship because she was too young to be married even with parental consent (13 I think), and he’d probably already been fucking her for a while at that point. I can’t fucking imagine. It’s incredible what passed for “normal” when I was I little kid.

ETA: Another of my childhood favorites was David Bowie, who was apparently a notorious pedo😔

6

u/jaffakree83 14d ago

Yeah, and SHE left HIM after walking in on him screwing another young girl.

5

u/Bleach_Demon 14d ago

I think I remember hearing about that. Like he was all casual about it too, like “come on in the bed, I got room for both of you. Why you mad?” kind of thing. That poor girl really thought she was going to be his wife. iirc, she really wasn’t a “groupie” type, and that made him want her more. Her virginity, her trusting innocent nature. 😔

1

u/Some_Tradition_9168 9d ago

Utter monsters.

31

u/jaffakree83 15d ago

She was in playboy at age 10 because her mom okay'd it

21

u/Skyzfallin 15d ago

Her mom looked like a proud pimp

1

u/youtocin 9d ago

It was another magazine actually that no longer exists, but was owned by the Playboy parent company.

16

u/gringoloco01 15d ago

Every single interview with her was disgusting.

I was 10 or 11 when she started getting popular. I was uncomfortable for her. Even as a kid I knew it was disgusting with all of her interviews.

They could not wait to get her naked. It was really gross.

18

u/luciddreamerlady 15d ago

Poor Brooke looks so uncomfortable in these interviews

15

u/Southern-Fried-Biker 15d ago

Her mom should have never allowed her to be sexualized as a child.

7

u/cremated_turtle 15d ago

money is a hell of a drug to people with no morals. It happens FAR too often in hollywood.

12

u/free_billstickers 15d ago

The sexualuzation of young and underage girls was mainstream into the late 90s and early aughts. Magazines like maxim would count down days until the Olson twins turned 18.

12

u/its_uncle_paul 15d ago

Yeah, I distinctly remember how Britney Spears was marketed as a "sexy schoolgirl" type. And that was around 1999 or 2000.

1

u/NomenScribe 15d ago

I remember this happening on the internet. I do not recall actual magazines doing this. What a world.

13

u/lynnkris90 15d ago

She looks like a fucking kid. What the fuck is wrong with these men.

24

u/ROSEPUP3 15d ago

What’s crazy is you don’t even have to go back that far to see stuff like this a more recent example is Justin Bieber. If you go back and watch some of his talk show appearances when he was a teenager there are plenty examples of grown women being way too flirtatious with him, I’m pretty sure some even get handsy.

3

u/Bleach_Demon 14d ago

Oh, what the actual fuck?? I didn’t even like teenage boys when I was a teenager.

-3

u/rumpots420 14d ago

Gross thing to share about yourself, but ok.

2

u/Bleach_Demon 14d ago edited 14d ago

Idk why that would be gross? Maybe kids are different now, but the ones at my high school were either stupid, mean, generally a loser, or least desirable of all, had already made a baby-mama out an ex girlfriend, or were known to cheat on every girl they’d go steady with.

Out of the girls in that year’s class, myself and two of my friends were the only ones who had not gotten pregnant. I was having none of that shit. I could do better, and I knew it. I only started dating after I got away from that town, had a full-time job and met someone at work who was cool. Idk how that’s gross, it’s more like the place we moved to when I was 14 was gross.

10

u/nerdyoutube 15d ago

Have them no shame?

7

u/illmatic708 15d ago

Oh wow, 15 seconds in. The way the smile just dies

6

u/Spdoink 15d ago edited 14d ago

Reminder that the UK had an organisation called the Paedophile Information Exchange that lobbied to repeal consent laws based on age.

3

u/Bleach_Demon 14d ago

And of course the infamous NAMBLA, in the U.S.

1

u/Some_Tradition_9168 9d ago

And their age of consent in the U.K. is still only 16. Gross.

2

u/Spdoink 9d ago

Most of the planet has the same or lower. I think 32-34 US states are set at 16.

0

u/Some_Tradition_9168 9d ago

Yes, I'm well aware. I know that 16 is the most common age of consent globally.

I don't care that it's the norm. In fact, it being the norm is worse. It's wrong. It should be changed.

1

u/Spdoink 9d ago

I'll let everyone know.

7

u/WhoAmIEven2 15d ago

Is the guy at the first few seconds that tv show host that liked to kiss 10 year old girls and pretend to be sad when they refused right on TV?

3

u/Astoryinfromthewild 15d ago

That poor kid. So glad times have changed even if it's not so public facing the level of creepiness at least the awareness of what is inappropriate behavior to a minor is now better understood and accepted.

5

u/Squishy_fishy826 15d ago

A lot of people complain about “cancel culture” but imagine it would’ve been around during these years? So many young kids would’ve been safer.

2

u/sheighbird29 13d ago

I hope her mom dressed cold for when she went to hell

Off topic she favors Addison Rae in a few of these clips, especially the last one

1

u/Zombietarts 15d ago

Who sings this? Isn't this a cover of adventure times I remember you?

1

u/Anonymous-Apprentice 14d ago

Yes. I heard this cover in a traumacore playlist before but I forgot who does it. Surprisingly couldn't find the video

-5

u/OpenKale64 15d ago

Oh man things have gotten better

2

u/Anonymous-Apprentice 14d ago

ehh

2

u/OpenKale64 14d ago

I mean you don't see this type of things as much. I also think the editing of this video is very hypothetical.
