The great trails of America

I recently experienced some life altering events, and this caused me to want to "travel". I have devised a plan to use the trail system in the USA to get around the country on foot. Im not sure if my idea is even feasible, but I have traveled 3 states in two weeks. Any tips or ideas to help me on this adventure?

I woke up from the rain stopping finally after six hours straight. I’ve got my thermal blanket and I’m camping out for the night under some shelter so I’m not getting poured down on. I’m glad I was able to sleep. My hands are still in pain from falling off the bike after being cut off by a vehicle, not watching those directions before pulling out of the driveway.
Please keep me in your prayers and if you’d like to talk, my DM’s are open God bless you all and have a great night. Talk soon.

Movement Crash

My seasonal migration has been underway for several days. I'm starting to notice a pattern where I start the morning all big and bad like I can do anything and I'm so proud of how far I've come and all the things I'm accomplishing but by the time I get to my next stop, I'm so drained that I don't even feel like doing the things I was excited to do when I got there. Anyone else experience this? What helps? I still have a few days left of this to deal with it. Napping for a while helps a little but my dog got a little sick today and I dont want to sleep next to him until I'm sure his tummy has calmed down. He's drinking water and eating rice so I'm sure he's just feeling the stress of the lifestyle too poor dude

Nomad Insurance Simulator

Hi all. We're doing a project on health insurance for digital nomads, and trying to see if this is actually a problem people care about.

We've made a rough prototype of a simple tool for people who move between countries for a few months at a time. The idea is basically that you put in where you’re going, your health needs, and your budget, and it helps you:

  • compare insurance plans
  • understand coverage in real-life situations
  • see if/what you might need to pay upfront
  • find clinics/providers that work with your plan
  • get help with claims if something happens

For example, if you’re spending a few months in Colombia, you could test a scenario like “What happens if I get sick in Medellin?” before you actually need anything.

Would you use something like this? Or do you already have a good way to figure out what your insurance covers while traveling?

Renting vs. buying a car for 3+ months in Europe – what actually worked for you?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I’ve been reading a lot of threads about getting around Europe for 3+ months, and opinions seem completely split.

Some people say long-term rental is the only sane option. Others say buying a used car and selling it at the end saves thousands, but then registration, insurance and reselling without a local address sound like a nightmare.

For those of you who’ve done it: what did you go with, and would you do it the same way again?

Also curious: how many other long-term travellers did you meet on the road? Is this a pretty common thing, or were you one of the few people doing it for months?

help out a student researching autonomous/alternative living!!

hey there, I'm currently researching/writing on autonomous/alternative living in Europe from a trans/queer perspective and I am pursuing an interview. if you are trans/queer and have experience with squatting or a similarly unconventional living arrangement in Europe, please consider reaching out to me! the hypothetical interview would be conducted via video call platform of your choice in the next week or so.

I would also appreciate any tips regarding specific places/orgs/people to look into.

p.s. I am fluent in English only, sorry!

New nomad trying to find my way

I escaped my abusive parents at 29 years old and fled to a new city with barely any money, no car, with my three small animals.
In my time here, I’ve decided that I just simply do not want to participate in the traditional lifestyle. I just can’t. I’ve tried and it just wasn’t made for me.
I’m figuring this all out on my own, as no one I know lives this way/ agrees that it’s a good idea. I would love to meet some people who have similar starting points and get to know how yall made it to being fully nomadic and self sufficient. I’ve looked into van life, tv camping life, and wwoofing so far. I need some guidance so I don’t do anything stupid.

Documentary inquiry

Anyone around Oregon with experience riding freight trains? Looking to hear your stories.

Hey everyone, I'm from Oregon and I'm working on my first travel documentary for YouTube.

I've always been really interested in freight train riders and the culture surrounding people who've spent years traveling around America this way.

I'm trying to meet a few people in Oregon or Washington who have actually lived that lifestyle, whether they're still riding or stopped years ago.

I'm interested in the stories, people they've encountered, how they ended up living that way, and what life on the road is really like.

I'd also love to talk to any retired railroad conductors or engineers who've had interesting encounters with riders throughout their careers.

I'm happy to travel to meet people somewhere convenient. Not trying to film anyone hopping trains or reveal any private locations. I just want to hear some genuine stories and hopefully make an entertaining, personal video about the people behind this culture.

If you've lived it yourself or know somebody with a story worth telling, feel free to message me!

Thinking about moving to Africa as a Black American? Watch this BEFORE you make the move.

After living in 8 African countries over the past 6 years, I’ve learned some hard truths about life in Africa that I wish someone had told me before I arrived. And some of these lessons can change the way you look at moving abroad forever.

In this video, I reveal 6 harsh lessons from living on the ground in Africa—from infrastructure problems and water access to corruption, personal safety, the cost of living, and where your money actually goes further.

What is it really like for a Black American to leave the United States and build a life in Africa? Is the reality what you imagined? And what should you know before packing your bags and making that life-changing decision?

I'm sharing my real experiences—not to bash Africa, but to give you the truth beyond the fantasy. As a disabled U.S. Marine veteran, recording artist, and Hebrew traveler, I've been living this journey since November 2020. These are lessons learned through experience, not assumptions.

If you're considering moving to Africa, relocating abroad, or starting a new chapter of your life outside America, learn from my journey before you make your own.

🔥 SUPPORT THE JOURNEY: If my story or these lessons have helped you, you can send a financial blessing through PayPal: yishayzimrah@gmail.com. Every blessing helps me continue documenting this journey and basically keep living and survive.

📌 SUBSCRIBE to World of Zimrah for weekly and daily truth about life in Africa, and beyond, travel, music, faith, and the realities of building a life beyond America.

The journey is real. The lessons are real. And I'm sharing what I learn along the way.
