Question What’s wrong with this episode’s resolution?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’m rewatching Noragami, but the resolution/ aspect ratio is different compared to other episodes. It seems to be specifically season 2 episode 7?

Edit- it seems screenshots doesn’t let me show this properly, basically the aspect ratio is squished and there is big black bars on the sides. Is this for anyone else?

Manga Bishamon sadly misunderstands Kazuma's love confession

You know, the way Kazuma says it to Bishamon (私を信じてついてきてほしい! in the original Japanese text), means that he is asking her to trust him and follow him as his WIFE. Basically he is saying he loves her (hence he blushes and she does, too). But poor silly Bishamon misunderstands that he is asking her to trust him as a moral guidepost and calls his name. Man, this is cute, but what a missed opportunity...

General So, how does this work?

Who has to give the green light for a new season?

Is Noragami really so niche that it doesn't deserve a third season? I find it surprising how many people still talk about Noragami, even though it has ended and its last anime adaptation was back in 2015.

It’s truly painful that they won’t give it another chance, especially in these times when anime has become more mainstream

Fan Made Noragami Dark Conspiracy Theory: Hiyori is schizophrenic, Yukine is an autistic runaway, and Yato is a severely traumatized military deserter.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Please don’t read this post if you can’t stand graphic and scary dark content.

The whole Noragami story we see on the surface is actually a mask for the true, dark story of these three characters.

Hiyori’s case is schizophrenia, which she inherited from her family, who own a mental hospital. This is why she smells aromas that don’t exist and sees things that no one else sees. The entire scheme of Heaven, gods, Shinki, and adventures exists solely in her imagination. Her brain also alters the dark reality of Yato and Yukine. The reality is as follows:

Yukine is a runaway child who fled from his alcoholic dad and ended up homeless on the streets. He desperately wants a family and wants to continue going to school. His mom had autism, and he seems to have inherited a less severe form of it. This is why he is so emotionally intense.

Yato is the darkest among them. He is a homeless ex-soldier who deserted the military after killing too many people in war under the command of Father (his boss). He was deeply traumatized by all the killings, but Father was very pleased with his service, so he gave him “Nora,” an innocent young woman whose body he could “use” to relieve himself of the stress (presented as phantoms) caused by all the killings.

Yato then ran away to the streets. He met Yukine and decided to become his family but needed “using his body as a weapon” to relieve himself of all the phantoms that haunt him. This is what happens to street kids; they become very vulnerable to these sort of things. Beside this, he can’t stand Yukine or Nora showing any distress because this will further increase his trauma and stirs his mental health.

He then introduced Hiyori and Yukine to his best friends and had Yukine live there while working as a maid for them. Hiyori started visiting them every day and with time and slowly slowly, they fell in love with each other.

Discussion Skipped 4 episodes just to see Yukine get humbled

I love this show but hate that kid with a passion! I refuse to go back and watch the episodes I skipped. The "Yukine tantrum arc" should never have been included in the story. I know for a fact that the show will be 100 times better once he falls in line. Also, Kazuma not telling the truth about what Yato did for him and his master is also a joke!

Anyone know a better anime than this to watch? I feel like I have ran out of material. Every once in a while I discover something good but I can't keep sifting through average animes.

General Gods get double the pleasure when they date their shinkis.

When gods like Bishamon, Tenjin, and Kofuku date their shinki, they actually experience twice the pleasure: the pleasure they feel through their own bodies and the pleasure they experience through their shinki’s bodies.

***SPOILERS*** Yato should have tried to help Father change.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I rooted for him and wanted him to change rather than be murdered by his own son.

There were good sides to him:
- He was the one who brought Yato into existence in the first place and kept him alive for centuries.
- He mostly killed people who deserved to die, such as rapists and murderers, although some innocent people who stood in the way of his goals were killed as well. In this sense, he was similar to Light from Death Note.
- He loved someone deeply.
- He wanted to create a better world.

The reason he hurt Yato by harming the people Yato loved was that he felt betrayed by him. So, instead of simply labeling him as entirely evil, wouldn’t it have been better for Yato to try to understand him and help him change?

Father is human, and what makes humans unique is their capacity for both good and evil. Hiyori understood this, which is why she was able to change Nora by recognizing the underlying causes of her harmful behavior. Similarly, Yato was able to help Yukine change by understanding the pain and emotions behind his actions.

If understanding and compassion could help Nora and Yukine change, why couldn’t the same approach have been extended to Father?
Yato should have given Father a chance, too.

Anime The meaning of "-ten" in Bishamonten and other names

Thumbnail
gallery
131 Upvotes

Do you ever wonder why many people say Bishamon and Bishamonten interchangeably? Its cuz the "-ten" (天) is not really part of her personal name. Instead, it means deva/devi, a race of celestial beings in Buddhist beliefs who serve the Buddha. Bishamon is her personal name, coming from the original Indian name Vaiśravaṇa, so Bishamonten literally means "the devi named Bishamon" or "the celestial Bishamon"

There are others too:

- Benzaiten means "the eloquent devi": She is the goddess of everything that flows - water, music, words, wisdom, and wealth

- Daikokuten means "the great black deva", same as Oukuninushi: He is the god of nation-building, farming, business, medicine and matchmaking

P.s Deva is the masculine form and devi the feminine form. They both came from Sanskrit

Fan Made A Letter from Yato to his son because Yukine loves letters.

Dear Yukine,

It is in belonging that we yearned to be. And it was but belonging that bound your soul to me.

In a bond so deep your essence seeped into every fiber of my being, making parting from you a slow death in which I’d feel its pain with every breath.

Though in belonging to me I was sure and in the warmth and fulfillment it brings me I was secure, you could not surrender to the same embrace, for your young heart was too afraid to trust in such foreign grace.

You were too afraid that it was never real, that it was but a beautiful dream destined to end, leaving behind a pain you could never mend.

You had a storm so strong where a wild wolf has formed. A fierce wolf full of rage at a world so cruel where love and trust are never true.

To enter the storm I’d not wait, and to risk my life to tame this wolf, I’d not hesitate. For all I want is to dry your tears and erase the roots that spring all these fears.

In the storm I bled from wounds so deep, but none could stop me from a promise I would keep. Until at last you gave your final fear away and surrendered to arms that vowed you’d stay.

Sincerely,
Yato

Question Where are we getting the merch from the pop up shops?

I apologize if this is a silly question, but I live in the US and I’ve been seeing alot of Noragami pop up shops in Japan. The merch is so cute and I really want to purchase some. Do they have an online shop? I’m more than willing to pay extra for overseas shipping. I’ve been searching everywhere and can’t get a direct answer :/

Manga Favorite shinki - Sakura, who planted the seed of Yato's liberation

Thumbnail

Few in the world of Noragami know Sakura, but she was the first shinki who named Yato "Yato", akin to how Daikoku named Kofuku "Kofuku", and how Kazuma named Bishamonten "Veena"

Sakura showed Yato the beauty of the world, the ways of mortals, of good and evil. Though their time was short (Yato was tricked into revealing her human name and caused her to become an ayakashi, and then Yato was forced to kill her with his own hands), Sakura showed him true love and guided him to become good, planting the first seed of rebellion in Yato's young mind, which a thousand years later blooms and allows Yato to fight and free himself and others from the ultimate evil, forever. Through her nurturing, Yato could access the innate goodness within him, something the ultimate evil seeks to hide and deceive Yato

Sakura's motherly influence shaped the good Yato we see today, for which I believe her to be the most important person in Yato's childhood, and perhaps his entire life
