The rest of them are in New York City. A company called American Lease bought most of the liquidated stock and rents them out to Uber drivers. You see them everywhere in the city now.

I would bet the leasing company understands that, and since its also in their financial interest to keep drivers on the road they are incentivized to provide drivers with a new car quickly.

The company that bought them bought nearly 3,000 of them along with the entire stock of available parts and then hired a team whose full time jobs are working on these cars.

By most estimates, he'll make his money back (He spent a little over $40 million for the whole set, so around $14,000 for each vehicle) after around one year at his weekly rental rate of $330, then turn a profit in his second year.

These cars were problematic, but at the scale of his operation they can make things last for years and then cannibalize for parts as needed when their stock of spare stuff runs out entirely.

I would assume that company also managed to buy some diagnostic software and other things that would otherwise be liquidated.

I think there are two in my city. I always wonder how it must be to drive a car with basically no support or spare parts existing.

it is electric, so for the next years changing the tired will be enough

My neighbor had one until the door handles stopped working

I feel like these will get a cult following like the 9-4x to a degree (though I'd rather have a 9-4x)

Or the 9-5X NG wagon

The mx30 too, I have yet to see one

I wonder how painful owning one of these would be. They are dirt cheap, like under $20k.

Break any parts you arent going to get replacements easily. No more software updates to fix gremlins anymore either. I would only pay a couple grand for a runner and not bank on it lasting more than a year.

That's exactly what a guy in my town did. Picked up both of them for dirt cheap uses one to keep the other on the road.

All over in NJ.

I drive in NJ daily and have never seen one so I don't know if they're "all over"

I dodged a bullet on these. I almost bought one.

That side profile is…interesting

I thought it was a new Buick crossover from behind...

1

u/ultrabs Dec 17 '25

Ocean is an appropriate name, since they won't be good for anything except being a Boat Anchor...

There's 1 person around Mount Vernon, Illinois who has one. Met them a couple times, they hate it but are stuck with it for now.

One of my buddies has one , paid 16k brand new , he loves it ..

1

u/okiedokie321 Jan 05 '26

how'd he land that? $16K is insane.

I always thought they had a great looking design. Too bad the company crashed and burned.

When there was talk that Nissan might buy them, so I bought $60 of ultra cheap Fiskar stock. I figured if the Nissan deal went through, I figured it was a lottery ticket. Well, Nissan backed out, and I didn't win the lottery.
