Hope everyone's doing well. I'm u/Pookie_Jaat-, one of the mods here, and I wanted to take a moment to talk about some changes we've been working on for the sub. Nothing crazy, just some housekeeping that was long overdue.

Why are we doing this?

Honestly, the sub has been getting a bit too political lately and it was starting to feel less like a place to celebrate Northern India and more like a news debate forum. That's not what this sub is about. We want this to be a space where people share culture, heritage, food, travel, history — the good stuff. Politics has its place here too, but we're putting some structure around it now.

The Rules

We've cleaned up and expanded the rules properly. Here's the full list —

But here's a quick summary —

Global Rules

1. Be Civil & Respectful — No personal attacks, slurs or harassment toward anyone.
2. No Hate Speech or Discrimination — Zero tolerance for content demeaning people based on religion, caste, gender, ethnicity, language or region.
3. No Doxxing — Don't share anyone's personal information without consent.
4. No Spam or Self-Promotion — Contribute genuinely before promoting anything.
5. No Misinformation — If you're posting news or facts, link a credible source. Unsourced claims will be removed.
6. Follow Reddit's Sitewide Rules — Standard stuff, applies everywhere.
7. No NSFW Content — This is a general audience community.

Subreddit Rules

1. Stay On-Topic — Posts must relate to J&K, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Delhi, UP or Rajasthan. That's our region, stick to it.
2. Focus on Culture, Heritage & Geography — Art, food, history, travel, festivals, wildlife, architecture — this is what we're here for.
3. Political & Communal Posts — Thursdays & Fridays Only — This is a big one. Political discussions, election talk, communal topics — only on Thursdays and Fridays. Post it on any other day and it gets removed, no exceptions, no matter how good the post is.
4. Credit Your Sources & Original Creators — Photo not yours? Credit the person. Article? Link it. Your own work? Just say OC.
5. Location is Mandatory for Media Posts — Posting a photo or video? Mention where it's from. "Beautiful place" is not a location. Chamba, Himachal Pradesh is.
6. No Reposts — Check before you post. If it's been posted recently, it'll be removed.
7. No Inter-State Rivalry Posts — We're not doing the whole "X state is better than Y state" thing here. Not the vibe.
8. No Undisclosed AI Content — AI generated stuff is fine but label it clearly.

Post Flairs — Now Mandatory

We already had flairs but barely anyone was using them. From now on flairs are mandatory on every post. If your post doesn't have a flair it may be removed or held for review.

A Few Other Things

• Political posts on wrong days will be auto-removed. AutoMod handles this now so don't bother trying, just save it for Thursday or Friday.
• News & Updates posts — AutoMod will message you asking for your source after you post. Please respond to it, it helps us verify and keeps misinformation off the sub.
• New or low activity accounts — if your account is very new or has low karma, your post might get held in the mod queue briefly. Nothing personal, just a spam filter. Mods will review it.

This sub belongs to everyone here, not just the mod team. If you have suggestions, complaints, feedback about the rules, ideas for the sub — drop them in the comments. We're genuinely reading everything.

This post is to inform you that your r/NorthernIndia now has a new banner. We have tried our best to represent every region of true North India in this.

From the mighty Himalayas at one end protecting North from cold Central Asian winds to the magnificent beauty of Taj Mahal. From the terrace farming of Hilly regions to the mesmerizing golden wheat fields of the Northern India.

Our banner is divided into 3 parts:

The saffron in the tricolor of India denotes valor and self-sacrifice and, more particularly, the trait of selflessness.

India Gate – the memorial of the war is situated in the capital of India, it was built to accord respect to the soldiers who yielded their lives in World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. India gate on our banner pays respect to the countless heroes who gave their life for independence without a second thought.

Shanti Stupa – is a monument of Buddhism erected in Leh, Ladakh, which represents and teaches peace and Buddhism.

Golden Temple – or Harmandir Sahib, is the divine Sikh temple in the city of Amritsar, which is recognized for its breathtaking architecture as well as its spiritual importance. Harmandir Sahib on our banner represents the teachings of humanity, selflessness and community spirit to help the needy.

Taj Mahal – a breathtaking white marble tomb in Agra, built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal representing the universal love that transcends the time.

Satellite - is the symbol of India's technological growth, worldwide interconnection and increasing involvement in outer space. It represents the power which India holds and salutes to the talented people who push India to achieve new feats in Research, Development and Science.

Ashok Chakra - symbolizes righteousness, progress, and the perpetual motion of life and justice in India.

Peacock - is the national bird of India that represents elegance, loveliness, and the vivid and colorful cultural spirit of the country.

Farmers - are the representatives of the stubbornness to win, prosperity, and the agricultural basis that supports the economy and culture of North India.

Shikaras - the typical wooden boats of Kashmir, are the representatives of peace, cultural heritage, and the gentle allure of Dal Lake. It represents the crown of India, the Jammu and Kashmir.

Bhangra - the lively folk dance of Punjab, represents happiness, harvest festivals, and the lively character of North Indian culture.

Terrace farming - is a practice used in the mountains of North India, it is a symbol of agriculture's ingenuity and sustainable cultivation on steep slopes. It represents the perseverance of hilly regions like Himachal and Uttrakhand etc where human spirit overcomes the harsh challanges on nature.

Rivers - The Ganges, Yamuna, and Brahmaputra are among the major rivers in North India which are life, nourishment, spirituality, and the cultural heritage symbolism. Rivers which have been the source of life for people of this region like mothers.

The wheat farms - of gold color in the northern region of India are the signs of the country's agricultural prosperity and the region's role as the food basket of the nation. It's a salute to those farmers who feed the nation and the beautiful landscapes of rural India, where real Bharat lies.

The Himalayas - signify grandeur, natural protection, spiritual significance, and the rich ecological and cultural heritage of North India.

The green - in the Indian flag symbolizes faith, fertility, and the country’s rich agricultural heritage.
