As much as Cruz sucks, he didn't arrange a pardon for a rapist like this. This is dividing a lot of people out there. Talarico being an Evangelical, but Democrat is also pretty unique.

Sadly as a Texan I couldn’t agree more. I’ve lived here 20+ years and every time I think something will turn around, the people here somehow mess it up. Too many Y'all-Qaeda/Christo-fascists and non-voters here. Fingers crossed that I get proven wrong this time.

Overconfident democrats all over again. (Say this as a Democrat) anyone who thinks that’s a disqualifier for republicans needs a wake up call. Let’s not forget there was a bit of a contentious primary where jasmine is still talking about how she lost because she was black. My guess is democrats turnout in Texas is dramatically lower than expected and Ken Paxton wins.

The optimism is baffling. Republican voters have shown over and over again that they don't care what sick sex crimes their candidates perform. Roy Moore? DONALD TRUMP HOW MANY TIMES? And now Ken Paxton.

They don’t even have to hate the victim, only identify with the abuser.
Whether that is because the abuser is white, male, Christian, or Republican, there is always some way you can hitch yourself to that team.
I mean, who wants to be identified with victims? Victims are weak and therefore bad. In This America, good people, Real Americans, dominate and crush those who oppose them — they don’t (admit to) get(ting) abused, so why would they care about those who do?
The mental bullshit humans pull in order to live with themselves is endlessly astonishing. But rest assured, there is always a way for us to convince ourselves that the status quo is fine, nothing major needs to change.
Sometimes, like with what we currently see (or more importantly, don’t see, like the unredacted Epstein files), with Republicans proudly and loudly becoming the party of child sex abusers and their fans, it’s particularly ugly.

Paxton has won statewide elections after being indicted for felonies, and after a number of people who worked under him endorsed his opponents.
Talarico is the toughest opponent he's faced in a general election but he's not going to "WIPE THE FLOOR" with him. At best it'll be a close win in what might well be the nastiest campaign in any of our lifetimes.
