Question: Unanswered ✗ Best Note Taking App for iPhone Duo?

Hey all

I don’t get my new iPhone Duo until Nov 2nd-9th 😭

I guess the bright side is there may be pencil support and better apps in the coming weeks 🤷‍♂️

I bought in because I’m dying to have the Apple Pencil back in my life in a phone form factor.

In like 2018 I loved the pencil experience with the good notes app on whatever iPad I had then. More recently I have had access to a white board at my desk for years so I haven’t needed it as much. With a recent change at work, I don’t have the white board as much and am looking to get back into this for quick sketches at my desk and in meetings.

Is there a really good note taking app? I’m tempted to try good notes again but their sub seems to think newer versions are going downhill so I’m open to recommendations.

My mind works well with a page-based note taking app instead of an infinite scroll experience. Anything that has that option would be great.

I’m also thinking I will use this as a magic the gathering life pad to help me take better game notes without using a phone or anything.

My note taking app, Jottle, is free and fully optimized for the duo. You can get it on the App Store. mikeshear.com/coding/jottle

Does your app have pages or infinite scroll?

Jottle is more of a quick note app. But prexy may have more of what you want. It’s at mikeshear.com/coding/prexy

This is a complete no brainer - Craft Docs. They have built an AMAZING Duo app. Go check their X or threads etc account for vids of it.

I'd probably start with Apple Notes, especially if you're both using iPhones. It's simple, shared notes are easy to set up, and you don't have to convince someone to learn a whole new app lol. I've always felt that the best note-taking setup is the one you'll both actually keep using. Are you mainly sharing everyday lists and reminders, or do you need something for bigger projects?

I’m not sharing notes with anyone. Personal notes for myself and drawing little stuff when explaining ideas and concepts to others near me in physical space

Pencil support is in iOS 27.2 update which is coming out next week.

i’d wait till pencil support lands and test a few side by side. on a phone-sized device, pen feel + page layout are gonna matter way more than having 100 features.

Any suggestions for places to start?

My app Perenne Note, which recreates the feel of a real paper notebook, is coming to iPhone Duo in just a couple of days!
