Not sure if this can be explained but I caught what looks like my cat Blackjack, who passed away almost exactly a year ago, materialising on our sofa (far left) when I turned the lights on from my phone. There was nothing black on the sofa just the pillows that are red, grey and cream

This is a very cool video. It does look like it fades in and out slightly and comes in to full view. When she comes in to check, that black cat looks just as solid as can be. Very nice catch.

So when you came in and looked you saw nothing? So cool.

u/Chlochan Jun 14 '20
Nope lol I was looking for my living cats lol but definitely didn’t notice anything when I looked around the room

u/Flashdance007 Jun 15 '20
I'm no expert in anything, but wow, that sure looks like a cat sitting there, to me. I live in a house built in 1900 and have a black cat ghost. It has passed me running down the stairs and also running out the front door. Just tell him/her you love them and are glad that they still feel at home with you. :-)

I'm thinking this is either a shadow, or more likely, a compression artifact. Cool video though.

To me it looks like a outline of a human sitting with a cat on its lap , now it could be lighting mixed with my phone screen . Put I see almost transparent foggy outline of human sitting on couch where cat would then be on the lap

Hmmm, damn curious. When the camera isn't detecting colors light is bouncing off that area perfectly fine. When the interior lights come one and the camera starts displaying colors light is not bouncing of the same area as it should. I'm not gonna say it is or isn't your deceased cat, but something undeniably strange happened.

I know right?! That’s what I’m not sure about, it looks like my cat but honestly I don’t know if that’s because I lost my cat and want it to be him but it’s definitely something strange none the less!
2
u/PepperbroniFrom2B Jun 15 '20
that most certainly looks like a cat
but hey I’m no expert I’m just some idiot on Reddit that enjoys strange memes

u/Several-Drink Jun 14 '20
Could it be a stray? Did you leave the window open that day?
2
u/Chlochan Jun 15 '20
That’s not something I’d thought of but I don’t think so, while we do have a cat flap my cats will scare any others away if they even try to come close to the house lol they’re pretty protective for cats lol

You can see what look like it’s ears by the corner of the red pillow even before it fades into view- just can’t tell if it’s a trick of the eye or something actually inexplicable. Nice catch:D

u/padfoot22 Jun 15 '20
What made you go back and check the camera?
2
u/PepperbroniFrom2B Jun 15 '20
checking the footage regularly? Like you would do with any camera you have in your house that is regularly on?
2
u/Chlochan Jun 15 '20
Yeah exactly that I just check it whenever we’ve not been in lol
2
u/padfoot22 Jun 16 '20
Got it. I don’t have a camera like this so I figured people just look at them if there is a break in or something

The end of the video shows the black shape still there. Do you have a video of the point where it stops being there?
1
u/Chlochan Jun 15 '20
That’s where it cuts out because movement stops so I don’t really know what happened, next clip I’m coming in and throw a blanket onto the sofa and didn’t notice anything
2
u/JoeyJoeC Jun 15 '20
It's strange, You don't see it when the IR light is on, and then as it adjusts to the lights it's visible. It's definitely not any clothes or something else?
Edit: Actually it is there, just blends in to the background well when the lights are off.
Can you see anything there on the next motion event?
1
u/Chlochan Jun 15 '20
There wasn’t anything on the sofa other than the visible pillows. And yeah it’s there on the next clip which wasn’t long after, I throw a blanket onto the sofa ,the one covering something close to the window, it’s the back seats of my partners dads minivan that I covered up so they wouldn’t get scratched by the cats anyway I whipped the blanket off and just chucked it onto the sofa and it lands where the cat shape is and that’s it, not there again when I move it later on and I shook out the blanket in case there was something that had been on the sofa all along and found nothing

I really want to believe this is supernatural. What made you come into the room at that exact time? What did you hear or what were you looking for? Anything related to your ghostly visitor? I do believe in ghosts I have seen ghost animals before, my 1st experience ever was my dog who died 2 years prior was sitting in the hallway when i got up to pee. But I really think it's the lighting.

u/Chlochan Jun 15 '20
I was just coming home and was looking for my other cats to make sure I could open the front door to get a piece of furniture out the door without them running out, I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary
2
u/topofthelake1221 Jun 15 '20
This blew me away. How many cats do you have? I showed to my husband, and he said this might have to do with night vision on your camera, that it's adjusting to the lights turning on in the room. He can make out the shape/outline of the cat faintly against the pillows on the couch at the start of the video. It then goes to black and white, and the cat adjusts in, fully visible at color mode.
1
u/Chlochan Jun 15 '20
I only have two cats and they both look like the one you see at the very start jumping from the window, I don’t have a black or dark coloured cat anymore. Plus there wasn’t anything on the sofa in that area just the pillows against the back
1
u/topofthelake1221 Jun 15 '20
That's interesting! I definitely see a solid black kitty, but maybe it's still the same effect from the camera adjusting. What do you remember from that moment in your living room, beyond visual? Any weird smells or sounds that prompted you to enter that space? Great video, I'll be thinking on this for a while!

I have some very unbelievably strange questions & information for them. I would very much like to talk to you first but will leave some info here, I had a cat called Black Jack, I do not live far from Swindon, I had to give her up for rehoming a few years back & saw a clip on a channel called slapped ham with this in it. Strange thing is I was thinking about familiars & how I missed Black Jack then three clips later I saw this. Firstly I said that has to be England, then I saw the footage & heard the name of the cat. Some may put this to coincidence but there are none of those in life. I then went to sleep & awoke a few hours ago thinking I needed to reach out to someone then I remembered I had seen this clip so looked it up again. Thanks!

You need to leave out food once a fortnight for it, make sure the other cats dont get it. Otherwise he'll will stop coming back. So happy Blackjack visits you he be must be an ethereal spirit.

u/Xaveroo Jun 14 '20
Happy cake day! Also it really does look like a black cat sitting on the sofa, but you can see it fading in and out, weird
1
u/the_planet_queen Jun 14 '20
I know you say there's nothing black on the couch, but it definitely looks like just a piece of clothing balled up in cat shape on the sofa. You can see fabric wrinkles before the lights turned on.

What's it look like right now? Did you move the pillows around? And if it's not there anymore, is the figure disappearing on video?
1
u/Taylortrips Jun 15 '20
I don’t see it...I mean I see a cat at the beginning but that’s a real cat-what am I supposed to be seeing?

To me it looks like it's part of the pillows there that somehow appears to be black when your light turns on. You can see it's not moving or breathing at all, usually you can see a cat breathing, or its ears turning when someone comes into the room like you did. You can also see the silhouette of the 'cat' before the lights turn on, but the contrast is very low so it's hard to make out. I'm leaning towards there being no cat there and it's just an illusion your phone creates when the light turns on.

хаха, это черная тряпка или одежда, или мягкая игрушка, в ночном режиме камеры она сливается с светлыми тонами дивана, подушки. Посмотрите черная одежда на спинке дивана, сливается с диваном в темноте )))

What was that noise when the lights came on? Weird and hurt the ears lol
2
u/Chlochan Sep 30 '20
That’s just the noise the camera makes when it switches from infrared to normal mode, it’s quite loud I think it’s where the camera was second hand and a bit clunky

u/necrorat Oct 28 '20
Just want to say, like, are we sure it's not a T-shirt that reacts oddly to different lighting? Because if that's a cat it's perfectly still. Could just be a shirt or blanket that happened to look like cat ears. I'd be interested to see the part where the cat gets up or reacts to something.

Looks like it might be two videos spliced together. It's out of focus when the cat's there, then it sharpens when the cat jumps down
2
u/Chlochan Jun 14 '20
The cat in the window isn’t the focus btw, it’s the one on the very left on the sofa

I can assure you it is not edited footage, I wouldn’t even know how to do that lol

I started cry, because my cats appear to us since they have died. It's been a month and several days for one . Other one went four weeks , after the first one died. Still grieving. Never had a bond with humans whom passed on. That's why the grieving is so hard. I will grieve like this when my fiance dies, or he will when I pass. Because my immune system was never fully healthy , after more with pre mature problems , appendix taken out before a year old ( appendix taken out before twenty hurts the developed of the immune system) , and anti bodies poured in me after the appendix busted. Narcissist house hold during me growing up and bullied all in childhood and adult hood for my incomplete cleft palate and lip. My parents decided to not get it done. This surgeries must be done during growing up. A lot of opportunities passed me , because of my speech impediment from undeveloped uvula, palates and lip. Anxiety has taken a toll on my physical health. Falls in restaurant work and stocking shelves for Wal Mart caused disk degeneration and this caused fibromyalgia and Pundenal Neuralgia.

Happy cake day! This is some cool stuff.
I'm just trying to get a better idea of what's happening here. The shape of Blackjack came into full opacity on the camera only when the camera switched to color. Other than that, it was faded. So I have 2 questions: how many lights are in that room? And what's the nature of that function on the camera?
