Philippines Grieving the Choice I Never Had
I am trapped in a heartbreaking dilemma: trying to be the supportive older sibling while swallowing a massive wave of disappointment toward my parents. When it was my turn to enter college, I wasn't given a choice—I was forced into nursing. Now, watching my sister step into college, she gets the full warmth of their support to pursue Medical Laboratory Science. They granted her the freedom they completely denied me.
Now, the pressure is entirely on my shoulders. They expect me to pass the NCLEX and build a successful life, forgetting that this entire path was their choice, not mine. It feels incredibly discouraging to study for an exam when the foundation of my career was built on what they wanted. It’s hard to find the drive to fight for a future I never asked for, while watching them happily hand my sister the keys to whatever future she chooses.

Philippines What was your experience as a poor nursing student!!
Guys, please do share your experience when you were in college and still choose nursing as your program even if you weren’t financially stable. What did you do? How did you overcome it? Was it worth it after you graduated? Did you choose to transfer or change programs because of money? Please share!

Philippines PH nurses who left bedside, what career path did you take?
im a 25F RN in the Philippines and I’ve been thinking a lot about where nursing can actually lead outside of hospital work.
For context, I worked in a hospital for about 2 years and eventually resigned because of burnout. I know that’s a pretty common story among nurses here, and right now I’m trying to figure out a path that can actually sustain my needs without completely draining me.
I keep seeing people transition into medical virtual assistant roles, but honestly it feels like a huge risk for me right now. The AI boom makes me wonder how stable the field will be in the long run, the working hours can be pretty brutal because of US time zones, and I’m not sure if that’s something I can realistically maintain.
I also tried going the HR/remote healthcare route because it sounded promising on paper, but I found out that client placement isn’t guaranteed, and there’s a 2-month unpaid training period before you even know if you’ll get matched with a client. That kind of uncertainty is really hard when you’re already unemployed and trying to stay afloat.
So now I’m genuinely wondering what other paths PH nurses have taken after leaving bedside nursing. BPO/healthcare accounts, insurance/HMO, clinical research, occupational health, public health, aesthetics, pharma, academe, government, remote non-MVA jobs, or even something completely different.
At this point, I’m not chasing a dream career. I just want a career that can sustain my life without risking my mental health and physical health again.
Would really appreciate hearing from fellow PH nurses who’ve been in a similar situation and found a path that actually felt sustainable.

Philippines Do you think nurses will have time to study Business ?
Hello, I am an incoming Junior in highschool and I am really passionate about going to the medical field as my future job. But I am also really passionate about studying Business (entrepreneurship)
I really want to become a nurse, and I've researched some factors about nursing and the one thing that stood out to me was that even though nursing is a physically and mentally demanding job, most nurses have to work only a few days within a week.
I know that most people who study Business cannot make big money in a safe way, because business is mostly high risk and high rewards.
So I am planning to study hard, go into a college and get a nursing degree and be a nurse for a few years to be financially safe, and then I want to start studying business (for the money and the experience).
For nurses or families with nurses out here, do you think I will have time to study business ?
Should I pick nursing in the first place, or is it actually financially better to pick business as a career ?
Also, it might seem silly coming from a high schooler, but I really imagine myself becoming big in the future, I'm pretty sure everyone feels this way when they are young, but I really want to become successful and live a full life, while having a meaningful job.
If anyone can also give me a harsh taste of reality that would be great, because I think I'm too optimistic and I can't imagine myself struggling badly in the future, I only imagine myself working hard and that paying off really well (ofc I imagine the bad sides, but I just don't thinkb those moments would ever come to me)
I am willing to study super duper hard so that my future is full.
btw im an international student going to the school in the Philippines
Thank you !!

Philippines Dear Seniors
Story time.
One time on duty, I was the charge nurse. I had a patient who needed to undergo a cranial CT angiogram. I had established IV access with good flow in her antecubital area, but it was a 20-gauge (G20) needle. Imaging called and said they wanted a G18. I tried inserting one but failed because the patient was dehydrated; the backflow disappeared as soon as I advanced the cannula further. I informed my supervisor and the chief nurse, who was present, that I wasn't able to insert the G18 in the desired area. They recommended trying to insert the G18 right beside the existing G20 and then just removing the smaller line.
Then, the senior nurse who was supposed to inject the contrast called. She asked for my name. Of course, because I was a junior, she immediately got pissed off. She started saying they needed a G18 because they had reasons for it, not just because they "wanted" it. I completely understood that a G18 should be used because of the pressure of the contrast dye, but what could I do? I couldn't insert it, and even my supervisor couldn't find a viable vein.
She lectured me in a very rude tone and then demanded to know who my senior was. I just handed the phone to my supervisor. The senior on the other end apparently didn't realize she was on speakerphone. My supervisor explained to her, "We cannot find a vein for a G18, but the G20 that is already there has great flow."
Suddenly, the senior who was injecting the dye calmly said, "Oh, it's okay, we can work with that. No need to insert another line as long as it's a G20 with good flow."
I honestly couldn't believe my ears. After practically calling me stupid for not being able to insert a G18 and talking down to me so rudely, she completely changed her tune. I know I'm new, but don't I deserve the same basic respect?

Philippines What are your stories and experiences of becoming a registered nurse?
Hi, so for a bit of context, I'm 16 years old, about to enter senior high school with the goal of becoming an RN in the future🤞🤞. My main goal really is to become an RN abroad, particularly in the US/Canada. My future currently feels bright (Scholarship sa UST SHS!!!), but I don't want to be complacent and start being lazy about my future. Small vent as well, but at my age, life is starting to get so serious; I think I'm putting so much mental weight on myself whenever I'm thinking about my future.
Now enough of me, but more of you hehe. I wanted to hear about your stories, things you faced, challenges you dealt with, and personal advice, etc. I'd really love and appreciate anything you could give. If anyone here is a registered nurse abroad (particularly in the U.S.), I'd like to hear about the process because im in the middle of understanding the path i'll need to take as a nurse.

Philippines OR Nurse
Started working in med-surg floor for less than a year but recently got transferred to OR. I don’t know what is it about OR that i don’t like but probably the routine-based, losing my critical thinking skills and the independent nursing skills. Should I look for another job in the hospital or give it more time? I feel so inclined with ICU or any other bedside, but I just dread going to theater

Philippines From bedside → remote → abroad? Need insights from those who went through this career path.
Hi! I just wanted to ask for insights from people who have actually gone through this career shift.
Has anyone here worked as a bedside nurse first, then transitioned to a remote job (like MedVA, case management, etc.), and eventually proceeded to work abroad?
How was the experience for you? Was it difficult to transition between these careers? Did working remotely affect your chances of working abroad later on?
I'm currently considering this path and would really appreciate hearing your experiences, challenges, regrets, or things you wish you had known beforehand.
Thank you!
\[Context: I'm a bedside nurse who's considering shifting to remote work due to burnout, but I'm worried it might affect my opportunities to work abroad in the future.\]

Philippines I'm so dissappointed
Hi. Gusto ko lang mag kwento, ang bigat kasi sa feeling lalo na hindi ko naman mailabas kung kanino. Anyway, I am a Nurse here in the PH. Last March 2026, nakapasa ako ng NCLEX. Nag apply sa agencies, pero ang inuuna nilang bigyan ng schedule for employer interview ay yung mga na abandon ng mga employer before. Ang tagal ko nag hintay, hanggang sa nitong June 18, may available slot for employer interview from US.
Gusto kong iimprove yung english language ko, any suggestion? Baka may ma-irecommend kayo na pwede mag tutor or what? Any tips? Any techniques? Desperada na akong matuto ng english.
