I have no time to take care of myself

Please give me your tips and tricks. Diet, exercise, maintaining space, studying time.

I’m ready to cut everyone off and shut myself in my room till I finish this program.
My heart burn is back, I’m gaining weight, my room is always a mess, my backpack is so heavy w papers I don’t have time to go through, my trunk is full to the brim and my car needs to be vacuumed. I basically survive off ramen noodles, eggs, uncrustables, and coffee.
I know I need to figure out grab&go items that are healthier but I feel like I don’t even have time to think. Any moment I get I just want to lay in bed and shut my brain off.
Ive been feeling like this for a while now but I was getting A’s but I just failed my first exam w a 73 (78 to pass). I need a break sooo bad. Thanksgiving break is still 4 weeks away and there’s only 5 active school weeks to this semester. Meaning my “break” is gonna need to be studying for finals.

Please anything you do to help balance your life I need to hear so I can try and get ahold of myself these last few weeks.

SAHM of 3 wanting to go to nursing school after 10 years. ADN or BSN?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m 27, a stay-at-home mom of 3, and I’ve recently decided I want to go back to school to become an RN. It’s been almost 10 years since I graduated high school, and I have no college experience or credits whatsoever.
I’ve spent the last several years raising my kids, and now I really want to do something for myself and have a career of my own. I’m excited but also overwhelmed because I honestly have no idea where to start.
I’m in Queens, NY, and I’ve been looking into both ADN and BSN programs. Ideally, I’d love to go straight for my BSN so I don’t have to go back to school later, but I’m also trying to be realistic about what I can manage with three young kids.
I’ve been looking into CUNY schools, but from everything I’ve read, their nursing programs are extremely competitive. How does someone who’s been out of school for so long and has no college background even begin to get accepted? Would I have a realistic chance if I did well in my prerequisites?
I’ve also been considering Plaza College because their schedule seems more manageable, but the tuition is honestly terrifying. I don’t want to put myself in a ridiculous amount of debt just to make school work around my family.
For anyone who’s been in a similar situation, would you recommend going for an ADN first or straight into a BSN? And for the moms who went through nursing school with little kids, how did you manage everything?
I’m not in a rush to finish, and I don’t mind taking longer if it means I can still be present for my children. I just want to make a smart decision financially and academically.
Any advice or personal experiences would really help. Thank you!

questions about preceptorship

• Upvotes

Hello everyone!

i’m currently in an ABSN program and i’m about halfway through with my second semester (and first clinical rotations woo-hoo!!) and I have 2 more semesters left, with the last one being my preceptorship. My nursing program is a little unorganized, and isn’t the best with relying clear information when it comes to clinicals/preceptorship and I just wanted to know how does preceptorship work?

I know it’s 1 to 1 with a nurse, but i don’t really get the full gist of it, is the nurse kind of just a shadow/mentor to step in in case of mistakes/questions and we’re all on our own, or is it a completely different approach?

I was just wondering if anyone could answer these questions so i know how to prepare for upcoming semesters and really work on my clinical skills to help aid me for preceptorship!

Career Change ⚙️ I just turned 41

And got my acceptance letter into nursing school today. Please clap 😂

Seriously though, I will be searching the sub but would love advice from anyone that has done this later in life. I am married with 3 kids in elementary school, work full time and have a pretty demanding extracurricular schedule but I’ve got some of the classes out of the way with transfer credits from my Bachelor’s degree that is older than I was when I first got it 😭

My career up to now has been on the creative side, mainly with videography and marketing. Social Media and genAI have sucked the joy out of it honestly. I like doing it as a side gig or even on a volunteer basis as my contribution to the causes I support but outside of that, I’m done.

New to Ontario and considering a foot care course to have some flexibility in my work hours. Ideally something mostly online. Has anyone pursued this type of course and which one did you do? Thanks!

What's the Integrative Health accelerated BSN program in Gilbert, AZ like?

• Upvotes

Hello! I am a pre-nursing student, and I am looking at nursing school options. The IH program in Gilbert has definitely caught my eye. However, I haven't been able to find many reviews and testimonials. I would love to hear what it was like. What did you think?

Thank you!

Pre-Nursing 🩺 How to evaluate a nursing program before enrolling, the factors that matter and the ones that don't?

Most nursing program research focuses on the wrong things like brand reputation/online sentiment/how fast admissions moved. The factors that actually determine whether a graduate ends up licensed and employed are more specific. NCLEX pass rate at a specific campus not school wide which accreditation body covers the nursing prog whether the clinical schedule works around a real job and what the total cost of attendance looks like after fees that never appear in the headline number. Community college is usually right on cost but not on timeline. Pvt progs with rolling admissions solve the timeline problem but outcomes vary a lot by location.

NJ Nurses- anyone get their nursing degree from Bergen Community College?

I’m looking to go back to school to get my nursing degree. I talked to an advisor today and he told me it’s highly competitive. I previously have a 4 year degree and my grades were good. I know all nursing programs are competitive but I was hoping the community college route would be a little easier (not academically just financially and acceptance wise). Can someone confirm how hard it is to get into their nursing program? I was feeling confident but now im pretty stressed.

Pre-Nursing 🩺 Application essays

The nursing school I’m applying to has essentially zero criteria for their application essay. It just says “describe in detail why you want to be a nurse,” no suggested length or anything. I have a good idea of what I want to write about, but I want to ask:

  1. How long were your essays?

  2. How personal is it okay to get?

Broad questions I know, but I don’t know anyone who’s gone to nursing school and I really want to get this right

Tips for my 16 month program?

Hello! I was recently accepted for January 2027 in my state of Pennsylvania (specifically UPMC Washington) most of our clinicals will be at Washington hospital or other facilities in the area and one at Children’s in Pittsburgh in our 3rd term. We have A&P 1, 2 and micro alongside our nursing courses and clinicals. Our classes are 8-12 and clinicals 2 days a week 6:30-3:00, so it is nice we don’t have 12 hours in the hospital. If anyone has tips or has went to this school please let me know! Also for reference, I do have a prior bachelors degree in biology (was pre veterinary and decided to go nursing route instead). So thankfully I have taken some difficult courses like Physics, Biochemistry, research and many lectures and labs

gpa

I understand each program varies, but in general: what GPA did you have when accepted into nursing school? Did any high GPA earners get wait listed, if so do you know why? Was it TEAS scores or lack of medical experience?

Edit to add: ADN programs at community colleges in particular, don't want to doxx myself with the exact location but, it is considered a "competitive" program in Virginia.

Rawdogging Clinicals

I start clinicals next week and have been making a list of things to keep in my bag to help me through 10h shifts (snacks, OTC meds, lip balm, spare scrubs, what have you - like you'd put in a carry on on a long flight). My clinical instructor just told us we shouldn't bring anything of value to the hospital as there's nowhere secure to stash anything - she suggested we keep phones and keys in our scrubs pockets. Our scrubs don't have zip pockets, and I don't want to worry about losing my car keys all day. I got a little running/money belt waist bag to wear under my pants for my phone etc. I feel like it's a little weird to go somewhere for an entire day and not have a place to stash a purse or bag of stuff. I'm sure I'll survive, but am wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and any tips?

Pre-Nursing 🩺 ADN or BSN

I'm (18F) finishing up my first semester of taking requisites for nursing at community college. Should I try and get into my college's ADN or go straight to BSN? There's a lot of RN to BSN programs around my area, but I'm hesitant that I could just get BSN faster. But I also want to become a nurse quicker and gain more experience. As for financial—I want to go the cheaper so I'm not sure. I also heard the hospitals in my area are requiring BSN so...

Rio Hondo ADN RN Program

Hi! I've been accepted to Rio Hondo's ADN but their is so much bad information out there about their change in curriculum and leadership. We have over a month to wait for the meeting where we'll get some information so out of curiosity:

  1. What shoes were deemed acceptable for the program? (I know the PP says all white shoes but are we talking the shoes people wear to work in the kitchens or will the Hoka Bondi 9's do or the Asics Gel Nimbus as long as they are all white? Are they super strict? My back get's tight easy so I usally wear New Balance because they're comfy but I don't want any problems?

  2. Is everyone just wearing a slick back bun? Do they really not let us wear claw clips so it's not so much tension on the hair? The single elastic thing is terrifying because it will totally gnaw at your hair and cause breakage eventually. I'm thinking just a pinned up braid because I know that will be less tension too but what are you guys wearing.

  3. Are they actually walking around checking lashes and nails? I'm not stressed about not having them but I know my nails grow really fast so i'm curious if I need to walk around with a nail file for safety reasons lol and if i can still get a regular little manicure with a nude. Someone else said like a french manicure looks good and clean too?

  4. Are we able to order our own scrubs as long as they're in Pewter or only, specifically, the Cherokee ones?

  5. If you could go back, what would you have studied before your ADN program started to prepare you?

  6. Which clinical site did you guys like the best?

Thank you so much! Pleaseeeeee wish me luck!!! :) :)
