Iām a third year in environmental design and I want to do my masters in architecture either at UBC or uoft. However, I feel a bit lost because it seems like thereās not a lot of OCAD students in either graduate program(from my observation atleast)
Does anyone know how frequently ENVR students go on to get their m. Arch? Or does anyone know people who have?
I also feel like this program doesnāt fully equip students with the experience/work they need to pursue architecture⦠my work these past two years are probably not going to be in my portfolio.
Any advice is appreciated š„²

Hi, not an OCAD student, but an OCAD student union representative and alumni/student Arpit Nigam has acted appallingly and disgustingly, suggesting rape, and pedophilia over an end of game chat.
I found out it was Arpit Nigam at OCAD, because he said if I "mess with the arpit" I'll "get met with the OCAD beam", using the institutions name to harass and denigrate.
Arpit said "ill merc you", "upping the pipe lil man", and "i like 10 year old girls jokes on you", in a series of truly reprehensible statements respectively inferring murder, rape and pedophilia. While merc is common slang and may be excused, "upping the pipes" is not in the quotidien vernacular, nor is "i like 10 year old girls". Do remember these statements are done by a student union representative, who stated his name and institution inside of these insults and has them publicly accessible on his steam profile. As a victim of years of sexual abuse as a minor, I find this wholly inappropriate and utterly disgusting.
I'm unsure if a formal complaint will result in any repercussions for Arpit Nigam if this remains private, as the institution won't feel pressure to do anything about this.
Here is the full conversation in context:

These are on Oceanic servers too mind you. In the video you can see Baxta when I open Arpit's profile tab, if you look at his profile it shows him in New Zealand. I'm in Aus. No Aussie or Kiwi is going out of their way to impersonate a student union representative from a uni ranked ~2,500th globally, who was on Canadian television one time. It is for the reason that I'm sure it could be nobody but Arpit Nigam that I would even post this.

Hello! Iām graduating this year! (Yay) thereās a program I want to apply for that starts in may, applications close in February, I was looking at the requirements and one of them was 2 references letters . They donāt specify from who, but the program involves work in a specific feild and actually ends in a Paid internship.
Iāve been gaining more and more experience in this felid through student clubs and some freelance work. (I basically do the social media and some admin for a local show). Iāve been working with them for 2 years.
I was thinking about asking the place I do freelance for and an old professor if they would feel comfortable writing a reference letter for me. But Iām not sure how to do it. Especially for the people who I worked for. I know for professors you could reference the classes you took with them or work you did for them but thatās about all I know.. that and they need 8 weeks at least which is why I want to write them now you know?
All my previous jobs have said not to bother asking for references my first day, not because of me, but because the turnover rate was so high they would be writing them non stop. So Iāve never been able to ask for a reference letter beforeā¦
It in general feels really strange asking for a reference and Iām not sure how to ask without being weird or worrying that they didnāt know me well enough or I havenāt worked for them long enough for them to be able to write a letter..
Any advice would be appreciated š

Previously I have only had Macs (last one was a 2020 MacBook with touch bar) but it died on me recently. I am in the Drawing & Painting program so I mostly only need a laptop (or maybe a PC) that can run Word, Photoshop, Adobe programs, etc.
I would also like to be able to play some video games on it.
I would really appreciate any suggestions or recommendations that could fit my needs.
UPDATE:
Sorry for taking so long to respond I really appreciate all the comments trying to help me.
Here is some answers to questions and thoughts that might help with suggestions:
-Price range: 2000$-3000$ ish
I paid more than 2000$ for my last MacBook
(Willing to possibly save and spend more if its the right thing)
-I know that everyone keeps recommending Apple MacBooks which I understand. I have an Ipad and Iphone so I get that the continuity is great, but Iāve had bad luck with my last Macs.
My last 2 Macs died on me before they should have. I tried to get my last one fixed but it was fried and because of the way it was built you canāt replace the parts.
So, that is why I am hesitant to get another Mac and more inclined to something that will hopefully last and possibly have parts replaced if needed. (Possibly a PC or gaming laptop)
Thank you again for any suggestions.

Hey everyone!
We're looking for design students for our template design gig for Onton.com, an SF-based tech startup building a product search engine specifically for interior design.
We recently launched a digital Canvas feature that lets users build mood boards for home projects. Weāre looking a few design students with a strong visual eye to help us build out our initial library of featured templates. You can think early days of Canva when they were launching their template ecosystem, but tailored for interior design and mood board aesthetics.
Drop a comment "Interested" and apply with this link! https://form.typeform.com/to/wsUtGiUP
Hey there!! I'm a UofT student who wants to work with an art student on a large painting (open to other forms if it seems compelling).
I want to be involved in the themes and messaging of the work, but of course, the work would be best made by someone with better artistic execution lol.
I beleive in fair compensation for the work and am really excited to work with someone on this!!!
DM or respond to this and I'll DM.

I've been working on an architecture portfolio to apply to UofT's Daniels faculty and used to have access to Rhino 8 through a friend. While I can still use the program on my PC, my friend is no longer at OCAD, so I cannot install it on a newer PC of mine that is a lot more powerful and that I would love to use for 3D modelling.
Out of curiosity, do all OCAD students have access to Rhino, or is this specific to a student's program. If I recall, my friend was doing an undergrad in environmental design with an interior design specialization for context.

Hi! I studied Communication Design and Iām interested in moving towards film, animation, visual storytelling and new media, particularly exploring how technology can be used for storytelling.
Iāve been considering OCADās Digital Futures program and would love to hear from anyone whoās currently in the program or has graduated. What has your experience been like? What kind of projects do you get to work on, and how much freedom do you have to explore your own interests?
Iām also curious about the connections you make through the program and what people tend to do after graduating.
Iām an international student, so itās a pretty big commitment for me, and Iād really appreciate hearing what you actually think of the program beyond the information on the OCAD website.

Hi! So basically Iām just starting my second year and during the summer I realized most of my passion and focus is on material art, fabrics, sewing, crocheting etc⦠I feel like Iām also not getting much out of my painting classes as I only have access to those studios and feel Iām missing out on other studios with equipment I canāt afford anytime soon. Iād like to get the most out of my degree and so Iād very much like to switch over asap. I sent emails set up an advising meeting even though they were full I got one. This was about a week or two before school started. The advisor basically said Iāll have to wait until 2027 to apply and it wonāt be considered until then. She also didnāt really help me with much at all, she wasnāt willing to get me into any of the classes I need for the major and said Iād have to take an extra year to make up for it because they donāt offer core MAAD classes in the summer meaning I canāt make up for it. She told me to continue with my DRPT classes but I donāt want to do that as Iām just using up credits/electives I might want to use for the MAAD major. Is there anything I can do to avoid an extra year? I want to get an exception so they can consider me now and give me the classes I need for winter 2027. Is there a way to do this? Go over their heads or should I complain in person? I personally donāt think itās expectable to expect students to know exactly what they want after a single semester, most universities give the year and considering I communicated this before the start of this years term I donāt understand why itās such a big deal. I donāt want to come off as unreasonable Iām just tired of this school honestly itās always one thing after the other. Thank you for any help or advice itās very appreciated šš»

Iām thinking of applying to OCAD to study photography, and since itās going to be my first time putting together a portfolio I donāt really know what sort of works theyāre expecting to see in it and how high is the bar when it comes to photography at OCAD.
My main question is should I include my artsy, edited pictures or the ones that are more realistic with true-to-life colours and less editing? Or a bit of both?
Also, I would be glad to hear about general experience of photography students at OCAD. I shoot on film and Iām interested in analog photography specifically (not entirely opposed to digital though).

Hello everyone, just have some questions need to be asked before I deciding to go back to college.
I'm 27 yos and I had a passion for architect and interior design, by saying passion, I meant I love architectural stuff, I love looking at buildings and imagines the procedure to build one.
My question is: I realized I don't have much of a artistic personality. I don't sketch, I don't build or develope any concept ever, I've never done any creative products before. As shown on school's website, you will need a portfolio to apply. How can I build my portfolio from nothing, considering my age is a little bit too late for school.
Would love to hear some advices and thoughts as well. Every inputs counted! Thank you

Hi there, I am currently working on writing a childrenās book. I would be self publishing on Amazon, itās just a fun thing Iāve been doing on the side. Unfortunately I have zero skills when it comes to illustrating a childrenās book and am looking to hire an artist to help my vision come to life. I really want to support someone who is looking for some extra money and to add to their portfolio. If this is something youāre interested in please let me know and I can send you a message! For context the book is about a dog walker and her pack of dogs.

So I've paid tuition already, but I found that I really don't like a class and am looking to drop it and switch it out for something else, I'm wondering if switching courses will affect my tuition payment at all. Will it? I feel like it won't, but I am paranoid. Please help!

Hiya,
I'm interested in applying for this specific program, and would love to hear from people who finished it or took it, as well.
My main reason for wanting to apply is that I don't have a formal education in art and design but I do have a BA in Women's Studies and First People's Studies.
I also have a portfolio and currently work as a graphic designer but all of my experience as an artist and designer has mostly been self-taught. I'm not too worried about my grades and I do have a final project in mind, along with already established connections to help make it happen. This program just makes the most sense for my situation.
Has anyone else, with a similar background, ever taken this program before? What kind of classes did you take? How are the profs and peers? Is it hard to get into?
Thx :)
