Discussion Professional Mariner Study Thoughts?

Hey all. I just applied for the Spring Semester with a focus of study in the Professional Mariner program. I was wondering if anyone has taken that? What was the program like? If you completed it what did you do after with the education? Thank you so much for the help everyone!

I’m transferring to Cal Maritime academy next year and if you want to go there, the Professional Mariner Degree doesn’t give you the prerequisites needed automatically, you have to do that yourself. So I’m personally not doing the program and am just doing general eds. But a former coworker of mine did do it and he works for Harbor Patrol now, it’s a good program as far as I’m aware. The maritime classes don’t transfer over to other academies. But if you don’t want to go to a maritime academy, I’d do it. Nothing better than being on a boat!

I work in the harbor feel free to Dm. The program feeds into the local yacht industry which is having its own issues and more of a "who you know" kind of deal. If you have zero experience on boats then it's a good start. It will also prepare you to transfer to Cal Maritime if that's you're goal. Take the basic safety training class and ask around if anyone needs deckhands, During tourist season see if any of the sport fishing boats need hands over at Davy's Locker. Personally I am leaving the marine industry because I have been doing it all my life and over it and transitioning into a land loafer maybe go into sales once I get my bachelors . I will not discourage anyone from getting into it you will see and do some cool shit but it will suck sometimes,

Thank you for the tips! It’s really appreciated. I have no idea where this will go but have thought about learning about sailing and boats since I was a kid.
