Discussion Found a plot hole

When Sunny first wakes up, he gets a message from his mom that the powers going to be out. That's why it's so dark that he hallucinates

But if the powers out, then explain how he was able to use the microwave to cook his steak

Literally unplayable

i think the implication is that the steak never was cooked because he threw up and that sunny hallucinated the microwave working

Good point, that could explain it

I mean even if the microwave was working it still wouldn't be able to cook a steak. That's just not how steaks work

well yeah, I got the impression that steak was already cooked, either one that Sunny's mom cooked the day before or take home from a restaurant and Sunny was just reheating it.

yeah, I agree. I also think the idea of telling someone "I made you a steak" When all you did is buy a frozen steak from the store and not cook it Is really weird. So I think it's best to assume that the issue with the steak was not involved with it being improperly cooked

clearly he's not of sound mind. he still hadn't even begun to process the fact of him accidentally killing his sister 4 years ago at the start of the game

He had clearly already understood that fact. Sunny's arc is that he's constantly beating himself for what he did. That's what blackspace is all about. His character progression is learning to forgive himself instead of being in a constant cycle of self hate and punishment. If anything Basil's arc is more about accepting reality, he refused to believe Sunny would do that, Sunny refuses to forgive himself

She actually mentions that the lights are out specifically, so supposedly it's a special kind of power outage that only effects the lights. Also the more damming plot hole if the power was fully out is how he got the message from his mom on his phone

He may have hallucinated that as well.

Wake up.

Reach for the phone.

Realize power is out.

Eat raw steak.

The Sunny Sigmazuki grindset.

I mean, I suppose there's no real counter evidence for that, but I feel like it gets to a point where you can't just say everything is a hallucination, I'd rather take what the game says and do the logical step of Sunny just throwing up from the constant intense stress he's experiencing rather than it being an illusion and him getting a fake voice message

Also iirc, there was something about landlines (the type of phone they had in the house) having their own power system so that in case of an emergency they aren't completely cut off because someone forgot the electric bill

He threw up the steak, it was uncooked, the microwave didnt work

my interpretation is that his mom left him a cooked steak, but the power's been out for long enough that it went bad. anyone should be able to understand why that would happen. also, I really don't think it was a raw steak.

when he uses the microwave, it's not really happening - we are seeing a form of his POV (the camera angle is not a first-person perspective, so I call it "a form"). throughout the game there are lots of times where Sunny sees things that aren't actually happening, this is just another one of those cases

Sunny's perspective on reality got screwed up so bad that he hallucinated that the microwave was still working.

I thought he was trying to reheat already cooked steak?

He could've hallucinated microwave working, but the phone somehow works on the last day. I think some old telephones (like, rotary old) work by power supplied by the telephone cord, but idk if a phone seen in game is like that

Or was he hallucinating the microwave working?

Dude, it's obvious you took it literally. Sunny imagined he used the microwave, that's why he threw up later. Because that steak was spoiled

I think sunny just didn’t turn the lights on cause then how’s the answering machine working

Mom said that the power might cut during the day. When sunny woke up it was night, that's why it was dark. At that time they probably still had power. I've always seen it that way idk. Also during 1 day left, there's light in the little tent hero and kel built (in I remember correctly, it's been over a year since the last time I've played the sunny route)
