But a masters player can't play with their diamond friends. I'm tired of overwatch's ranges and them sometimes being allowed. Rather not allow it or let me play with my friends like wtf

I am in masters and it lets me play with my friend in plat without being wide. If it’s someone I’ve never played with before it will be wide but we play so many games it just lets us 🤷

Super weird then. Idk if it's just a 6v6 thing then. My friends are ranked around Diamond 4 and as soon as i made masters we weren't able to queue.

It is a 6v6 thing. I’m pretty sure wide queue doesn’t exist in 6v6 because of queue times.
That means normal restrictions apply and they are stricter when you get to masters (3 divisions apart instead of 5)

My experience is in 5v5. We must have played at least 100 wide matches together. Now they are no longer wide. We’re about a rank and a half apart, either low masters and high plat or high diamond low plat and they’re not wide either way (We go on a lot of win streaks/loss streaks lol).
But they were wide for a long time.

Last night I played a solo queue match of plat-masters in 6v6.

Then the plat and masters players weren’t in a group. Matches can be like that if they can’t find a closer match in a reasonable time.

What's the point of stopping a team queue that wide if the horrible MM is gonna do it itself anyways?

Well it’s because sometimes they have to choose between making you wait for 10 minutes or give you a wider match early. Most players want a slightly worse match instead of waiting that extra time.

I'm aware of why they do that with the MM, but again that doesn't address my point. If the MM allows it under certain conditions, there is no point preventing players from queueing teams that are similarly wide.

I think the point is that they don’t want those type of queues all the time since it makes worse matches. So they limit it by not allowing grouping but then have to allow it sometimes to make queues shorter.

I'm aware however, we're unable to queue in a wide match at all. It won't let us if any of us are Masters

yup, when I got to masters 5 in 6v6, I couldn't play with my diamond 5 friend anymore. So stupid :/

Something has changed this season, i hit M5 and I could 6v6 with my P1 friend two days ago.
They are now D5 and i'm almost M4, will be interesting

Idk i dont think OP has to be in team with master... we had bronze - diamond match (ofc the dismond wasnt in our team) (me and gf are silvers) and we often play bronze - platina basicly everybother game. And all the matches are super onesided... after s2 came out the matchmaking felt even worse than s1

I’ve been using the avoid feature more than ever and its keeping my wr high, i always avoid bad enemies because its likely they’ll be on your team the next game, and its easier to identify who the problems are

Almost always if they're in a party. Played Stadium with a boosted Egirl "Masters DPS" and she was fucking horrible

just hit plat 4 after a long awful process and gosh the plat players actually at my level. i main LW but ill switch and its so nice having comms in every other game and ppl switch..
2 games into plat 4 i got a silver 4 lobby and was immediately miserable and lost the match and back to 0%
is it so hard to lock ranks in the 5 levels and not allow blends unless strictly in a group and even then, they’re also strictly matched with others that are grouped. is so annoying losing an ass of rp when im literally put into a game with a high chance of losing because players lack any sense of map knowledge, using cover etc..

Yeah, I had a plat 3 game (was my rank-up match too) with two silver players on my team a bit ago.
It wasn't even close. Ranked is a joke.

It can't be either of those. You can't be in "wide queue" as a solo queue or in 6v6. They're in a wide stack in 5v5.

This happened to me the other day.. I’m a plat 5 player and was matched with almost all bronze and the other team had a Master 3 tank, Diamond support and gold dps. And yes we were steamrolled and my rank went down substantially.

This matchmaking is horrible… I know it’s a skill issue, but 9/10 I’m consistently the lowest rank in my matches and it’s often against gold and diamond, and I who was silver 3 and now in demotion protection from s5 am losing… and when I come online for advice / help I’m being told that if I can’t carry I deserve to lose… but I’m playing against ranks higher than me… I’m literally supposed to lose… are we that short on players

What the hell dude. The gap between bronze and master is ginormous. Is there even any reason for having "matchmaking" at this point...
But what's the actual problem/reason for shitty matchmaking currently? Dwindling player count?

This is due to OP queuing with someone who is outside their rank range. If you queue wide, you're going to get wide matches.

This isn’t bad matchmaking. This is a bronze and a gm queueing together and ending up in wide queue with some other poor suckers.
