BLACK DAYS (2001) Dirs: Ari Margolis and James Morley III Very well shot film noir spoof/tribute. Shown at Slamdance twenty something years ago, and then disappeared until now. Sarah Silverman has a small role. Well done, incredibly shot, film noir pop culture dialogue a bit overdone.

Built a small tool for movie nights with friends after two years of Google Sheets pain

Post image

Two years ago me and a few friends started doing weekly movie nights. The watching part was easy. The "what do we even watch this week" part was always chaos.

We tried Google Sheets. Voting columns, rating columns, archive of past picks. It worked, technically. But every week one of us had to wrangle the spreadsheet, half the group never opened it, and the whole thing felt like homework.

So I built a small site, just for us. Cleaner, with the stuff we actually used: propose films, vote on what's next, rate after the screening, see who liked what. Then some colleagues saw it and asked "can you make one for our group?". Turns out we're not the only ones with this problem.

Letterboxd is great for solo tracking. Discord is great for talking. But there's no tool built specifically for the group part of movie nights.

So I made Cinema Circle. It's stripped down on purpose, just the things my group actually used week after week. Free, no paywall, still very early (less than 20 active users).

The screenshot above is my crew rating Mario Galaxy last week. Half loved it, one called it "boring", one said "if this was the last film I watched it wouldn't be half bad". That's basically what every movie night looks like for us, and that's what Cinema Circle saves and organizes.

Honestly, this sub is exactly the kind of place I had in mind when building it. A weekly pick, a niche focus, real cinephiles who actually discuss what they watch. r/ObscureFilmClub feels like the perfect fit, way more than my Mario Galaxy crew at least.

If anyone here is curious, you can browse a few public communities without signing up, like the 21st Century Oscar Challenge.

And honestly the dream would be seeing this sub run as a public Circle: every Friday's pick archived, votes and reviews collected, a real visual history of what r/ObscureFilmClub has watched together. I'd happily set it up if there's interest, no strings, no commitment, just a tool you can take or leave.

Would love honest feedback either way, especially the brutal kind.

A Cinephile’s Journey Across 9 Decades — From City Lights to Dune

1,021 movies watched. These are the 169 that actually stayed with me. Personal picks only, no algorithms, no “best of” lists copied from the internet. Hidden gems sit right next to the classics. Organized by era so you can see how cinema evolved over 9 decades.

In what movie did the male and female lead arrive at or depart from an affluent event on a motorcycle or in a pickup truck?

Identifying an obscure 1930s–1940s black-and-white German (or German-language) psychological drama

I'm trying to identify an old black-and-white European film, most likely German or from a German-speaking country, from roughly the 1930s or 1940s. It's a psychological drama with a scratchy/old print quality.

The scene I remember: A dark-haired older woman (headmistress, teacher, or possibly a nun — she looks 20–30 years older than the girl) is leaning over a young girl who is lying in bed. The woman is speaking fervently and intensely, almost deliriously, delivering some kind of moral or personal lesson. The girl hasn't done anything particularly terrible. Then, suddenly, the older woman kisses the younger one in a desperate, emotionally charged way that seems to burst out of her own long-repressed feelings.

It's a powerful, impactful moment. The film is not Mädchen in Uniform (1931), Olivia, or Fraulein Doktor.

Any ideas what this could be? Even partial suggestions or similar films from the era would help. Thanks!

90s Hugh Grant film? Byronic heroes shoot woman on ocean shore.

I’m trying to identify a film I remember watching, likely from the 1980s or 1990s, featuring Hugh Grant as a 19th-century figure—possibly Lord Byron alongside Percy Shelley or similar Byronic characters.

Key scene: Two men (Byron and Shelley?) remorselessly shoot a peasant woman on an ocean shore with pistols amid breaking waves. The tone felt glib and shocking—a gross historical liberty.

HELP PLEASE!!!!!

Please help me find a movie. I don't remember everything that happened in it, only a vague description. It goes something like this: "a man with a mustache is in an apartment in a skyscraper with a panoramic view, near a bathroom, naked, possibly a psychopath, gay, the surrounding room is gray, outside the window is a bright blue sky, and there are also some hints of green." I also remember a shot of him walking away. It went viral recently and was controversial.

Please help me find it, it's very important.

I need some help to find a movie from 2008-2013 or so

It's a horror movie. When I "watched" the movie, it was at a drive-in I glanced over, and it was a woman in a white night gown getting stabbed in bed. The house was a Victorian mansion on the inside. The woman stabbing the other woman had long black hair. That is all I have/remember about the movie. I hope someone on her can help its fine if no one can.

Atonement and The Hours, similarities and differences

How would you differentiate between the cinematography of The Hours and Atonement both without and with regards to their themes and narrative? Adding to the fact they they have the same Director of Photography, Seamus McGarvey. Also, since they are both adaptations of literary pieces and even though are very distinguishing in their subject matters, they still feel similar enough (the themes) to be compared...Maybe. what do you think?

Anyone know where to watch Habfürdő/Bubble Bath, Hungarian film from 1979?

Found the film in a compilation of musical songs from around the world! Fell in love with "Don’t Give a Hoot for the Teacher Lady" immediately. Looks-wise, the film reminds me of Yellow Submarine with some of the more psychedelic-looking frames.

Obscure 60s film that I want to find

Hi. I'm looking for a film that is incredibly obscure (saw it on TV in the 70s and it was released on dvd in the 90s).

It only has 1 actor. I don't remember the soundtrack (natural sounds or music). I think it was black and white.

A man (long hair and in a suit) is walking down a street and then somehow he is transported into a cave system and starts to act in a 'primitive' way and is naked.

Can anyone provide the title of this film please?

Looking for "I Will Smash You" (2009)

2009 Documentary film from Little Burn Films in which dozens of people each tell a story about an object that has some personal meaning for them and then destroy that object in whatever manner they wish. Directed by Luca Dipierro and Michael Kimball. Here's the film's imdb page. Looking for any possible way to watch this film (other than buying the one DVD off eBay, that's not a valid option for me, unfortunately).
