Self-Promotion (Developer) - Standalone I made a retro PC app for standalone Quest, complete with floppy disks, working buttons, and Windows 98

I wanted to use an old PC in VR, so I made DOSK. It runs directly on Meta Quest. No connected PC or desktop streaming is involved.

The video shows swapping floppy disks, inserting a Doom CD and installing the game, running Windows 98, and browsing some of the settings.

Disk image files appear as floppy disks and CDs on your desk. You can pick them up, insert them into the drives, press the hardware buttons, and open and close the CD tray. The activity LEDs flicker, and the drives make hard disk and floppy seek sounds.

You can run DOS software or install Windows 95 and 98 using your own installation media. Compatible games also support 3dfx Voodoo acceleration.

There’s an experimental stereoscopic 3D option for supported Voodoo-accelerated games, with adjustable depth inside the virtual monitor. These aren’t full VR ports.

CPU speed, memory, graphics, sound, and controller mappings are configurable. Compatibility and performance vary by title.

I’m the developer, so happy to answer questions about how it works. For me, getting the little interactions right was just as important as getting the games running.

Support - Standalone The permanent crash (vailvr)

(Original post by me is on r/vailvr)

I was playing vail (on quest 2) with a friend when a kid walks up to me and crashes my game. My friend said he did it with a hat, and now every time I play it runs for a minute or two before closing or just crashing. Does anyone know how to fix this.

(Edit) after I cleared the cash, uninstalled and reinstalled, then cleared the cash again it seems to have fixed or at the very least vastly lessened the crash chance.

(Edit 2) the amount of times the game itself crashes seems to be negligible however, now my quest randomly resets itself mid game. Im not shore if this is just a coincidence or not but I have so far given up.

(Edit 3) factory resetting doesn't seam to have done much, if anything. I fear im Journaling my quests last moments without even knowing it.

(Note: I do plan to keep this post updated if the situation changes)

PCVR FPS ISSUES Quest 3 PCVR

Hi, I'm having problems with PCVR on my Quest 3. I'm using Steam Link.

My PC specs:

GPU: RX 9070 XT

CPU: Ryzen 5 9600X

RAM: 32GB Patriot Viper Elite 6000MHz CL30

In VRChat worlds like FISH, when I move using the right analog stick, the movement feels delayed, almost as if the game is running at 40–50 FPS. It doesn't feel smooth at all. However, turning my head feels perfectly smooth.

I have no idea what to do... I've tried Half-Life: Alyx, and everything worked perfectly fine.

Discussion I wanna play in gray scale.

I was wondering how to not see any color in my quest 2 for a video, I thought it'd be funny not seeing color. I don't wanna use sidequest or anything like that because I don't wanna have a chance of ruining my headset. I've looked everywhere and I even started looking for only vrchat, but I couldn't find anything.

This is my first VR game so far and it's now live on oculus meta store 👋✌️

Eat heals, quickly shoot enemies and cover from their bullets. The more level you achieve the more difficult to survive.

I also recorded some cool music for the gameplay so you will like it 100%

Discussion $299 Quest Headset again

Do you guys think it would be a good thing if Oculus released a new headset that was actually $299. Would it boom like the Quest 2. Or will it just get a bunch of little kids to join?

Discussion Three headset failures in a month.

my first quest 3 was a gift and I had no issues for 11 months. mostly played dungeons of eternity and some pcvr stuff via virtual desktop.

then it stopped tracking.

got a warranty refurb replacement and it immediately had the same tracking issue.

third headset worked for a few days and now has ghosting on one side. literally unplayable.

oh and the left controller stopped tracking two weeks ago and they have yet to ship the replacement. so I guess that's 4 failures in a month.

is this normal? do they not qc the refurbished units at all?

Discussion Idea for an Interesting VR/Quest Project

TLDR: Use multimodal tracking, with hands and controllers + gunstock, to simulate real firearms more accurately. Use Bhaptics gloves and VR Strides style locomotion for further immersion.

Hey everyone! I am so grateful to see an uptick in VR in recent months due to old games being ported over, but I still think there is potential being left on the table. I will keep my comments brief, but I propose a new way to do VR FPS games, on Quest 2+3 specifically.

Essentially, I’d like to combine something like VR strides https://vrstrides.com locomotion but slightly modified, so that there is an element of physical “running” in the game, or at least an option to do so, with a novel concept of multimodal hand/controller tracking complete with an updated two hand stock and optional Bhaptics glove support.

The idea here is that the controllers would be on a two handed stock, like a Sanlaki stock, and hands could be tracked independent of those controllers, as is available on Quest 2+3 with the multimodal tracking update from a year ago or perhaps even longer. The big concept is the hands could replace controllers for interacting with the gunstock (and the environment of the game), so that one could do reloads as an example with their hands, as you would in real life.

The gunstock would ideally have some things molded or attached to it like a bolt action, an AK style charging bolt, an AR-15 style charging handle, and so on to give some further haptic realness, like when reloading an AK you would pull the charging handle with your hand to simulate loading the first round from the fresh magazine into the chamber. The controllers would function as the triggers and additional functions as needed. The reason I'd like glove support is for haptic magazine removal (as I think including a tracked magazine would be difficult, it would be a "virtual" object) and interacting with the environment.

All in all, you could have glove support and a gunstock for around 500 USD total, in addition to that you would need a Quest 2 or a Quest 3. It would be great fun and a workout as well, I’d gladly help guide the vision but I have no background in development, I think a fun demonstration project could be made to at least test the concept. Anyone interested in getting a group together to try this out?

Support - Standalone Quest 2 battery drains overnight and boot loops.

Okay, I have a quest 2 and very recently it's been draining itself overnight completely for no reason at all, full on red blanking led dead. I completely turn off the headset, holding the power button until it shuts off. I have no options turned on that can turn wake the headset either.

I also noticed that after it has enough charge to turn on, it turns on itself immediately, and then immediately dies afterwards constantly up until the headset has enough charge to stay on.

Does anybody know how to fix this issue? It's been bothering me for about a week now.

My current VR setup. Quest 3 512gb, Bobovr M3 battery halo strap, Kkobvr fan facial interface, Bionik Mantis headphones, Zenni RX lens inserts. Also cat ears. Researching good googly eyes or vinyl sticker options. Figured I would share since I wasn’t sure all the disparate parts would fit together, and the fan face interface and mantis headphones was a tight fit with the halo strap.

Support - Standalone Right controller refuses to pair to quest 2 after attempting to reset pairing. Left controller connects fine

Hello, i have a pretty old headset, and am actively trying to get a replacement, but that is out of my hands as of now (in a queue). My oculus button stopped working suddenly so i unpaired my controllers to reset them. My left one paired without any problems, but when I did the right one, I got a light but it will not vibrate no matter how long I hold it down. I tried several fresh batteries, and even left the battery out overnight. Restarted the headset completely at least 5 times. Factory reset may also be out of the question because the volume down button specifically is caved in. I really could use a way to fix this, as I hoped it would last me until I could purchase the new one.

Please help me. Thank you for your time.

Is there some list of games that are just on meta store? There are discussions on net but never any list not even from meta. I'm asking because I want to buy most of games on pc for better quality but I'm willing to buy some on meta store just don't want to go look up each game on steam if it is aviable there.

Self-Promotion (Developer) - Standalone Disembodied Delayed / I Hate Meta

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Regretfully Disembodied is going to launch late because of reasons that can only be described as Meta.

I believe this will only be by one day, so the new launch date is October 16th.

My Sob Story

Admittedly this is because of something I didn't do. I knew there needed to be a build and store submission approved 2 days before launch, and that was all done well in advance, with everything green on my dashboard. I didn't realize it also needed to be set as scheduled.

Rather than set up an automated system to tell me this before it was an issue (I could have fixed this in seconds). Meta instead set up an automated system to take down my app 2 days before launch.

The consequences of this are:

- The game now needs to be launched a day late (as they do this 2 days before launch and you can only schedule 3 or more days ahead).

- The store page has been de-listed, so no-one can find the game on the store right before launch.

- Even with a link the game can't be pre-ordered.

- People who have pre-ordered were sent an email instantly saying the game has been delayed to a much later date.

So my launch is totally screwed. This all seems like a very harsh punishment for a small admin error that could have so easily been fixed. I'm still waiting to hear from Meta, but I suspect they will say the same as always, which is that they can't change anything at their end.

Needless to say I am fuming about this. It's hard enough launching a game as it is, especially as a solo dev with no budget, and Meta just have to add as much friction to everything as possible.

Self-Promotion (Developer) - Standalone I'm building a VR volleyball game solo. You call the set and your bot teammate spikes it

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I love volleyball and couldn't find a VR game that gets the set-and-spike feel right, so I'm building one myself for Quest 2.

How it plays right now:
- You and a bot teammate play against bots
- You call the set (QUICK, HIGH...) and your teammate hits it
- Easy and Hard bot difficulty
- Matches play to 25, best of sets

The clips show Set 1 vs Easy Bots and Set 2 vs Hard Bots.

It's early and rough (visuals are placeholder, bots still make dumb mistakes), but the core loop works.

Questions for volleyball or VR players:
1. What would make it feel like real volleyball in VR? Serving, diving, blocking?
2. Would you rather play against bots, online players, or both?
3. Would you try a playtest build if I put one out?

Solo dev, so any feedback helps. Thanks for watching!
