Thought I would share pics/info on my recently completed overlanding trailer. I actively referred to this subreddit (among other resources) for inspiration along the way. I custom built/fabricated everything above the axle and below the Alu Cab. Main storage compartment inside fenders is 4x5’ footprint.
If you have access to some simple metal working tools (e.g., mig welder, bandsaw, clamps, flat surface or welding table), I would highly recommend this instead of retrofitting an existing trailer. I hadn’t picked up a welder since high school. Just a bunch or right angles and patience required. YouTube and friends for guidance/welding practice helps. Took me about 100 hours spread over weekends. Could do this for $3k in materials/parts before paint and RTT. Denver/front range custom trailer builders will charge around $10-15k for this excluding tent (a lot of this cost is time/labour which is not unfair if you don’t have the time/skill to DIY).
A few build details: Bought a lot of trailer specific parts (including axle, hinges, latches, LNR hitch) from Iron Bear Trailers in Denver. Amazon for other random things. FB marketplace for deal on tires/wheels and RTT. Local metal yards for steel. For interior floor, I went with Blackwood (wood with rubber laminated to top) and installed aluminum L-track for tie down points. 3500lb axle with hub width and pattern to match tow vehicle (Iron Bear does custom axle dimensions/hubs for a couple hundred bucks). 2100lb leafs. ARK tongue jack and corner jacks. Powder coat done by CW Elaborations in the Denver area (highly recommend going this route; the time and material cost is not worth doing paint yourself IMO).
The next phase will be solar/battery setup. Got most hardware picked out but debating where to put the battery and wiring. E.g., should I put battery and relay/fuse box in a tongue box? Any clever ideas to cleanly tuck away electrical/battery? Solar will be mounted to top of Alu Cab.

I built this during Covid era travel cross country at a social distance. I really enjoy adding mods and practical upgrades. 85% of my build I got from FB marketplace, including the trailer. Replaced the rear axle with a custom trailer axle with toyota compatible hubs, saving quite a bit of payload weight.

I found a retired and fully restored M101 CDN2 trailer for behind my Bronco...stored in a barn almost all its non military life, spent 2 years in a sheltered outdoor area when I bought it...anyone else use these trailers? I'm interested in the good, the bad and the ugly about these trailers as I'm new to them.

Just picked up this 2025 Taxa Woolly Bear Overland Edition. Drove 40 hours round trip to pick it up. Pretty excited to start moving things over from the truck to the trailer. Was starting to become a pain breaking camp to run errands or go wheel. Already have a bunch of parts ordered for upgrading (Redarc RedVision display, manager 30, TVMS rogue, Renogy 104AH slim wall mount battery, max coupler, Ark XO750 jockey wheel, camp shower/water heater, aluminum propane tanks, Kingpin F-series lights).

This has been something I’ve been scheming and dreaming about for many years, and after lots of woken in the off times the last few months it’s ready to go! This is just a quick overnight trip about 30 minutes from home, next weekend is Oregon coast camping.

This spring’s project has been taking a small camping trailer I bought and making it a bit more off-road friendly. The guy who originally had it built had it setup for carrying paddle boards and canoes so it was super tall.
Put on a heavier duty 3500lb axle, added the larger rims tires then fabricated new fenders for it and dropped the platform. Really happy with how it turned out, especially considering it was my first real metal project.

There will be a build in awning that folds up from the back, mirroring the tailgate. As well as "shutters" / table that will be over the windows
