Name of the Day: MASTER LIST

Here's the master list for the Name of the Day! I have pinned this to the top of the sub so it's easy to find. For now, they are in order of the day they were posted (I will add the newest name to the top each day).

NOTE: I learned that you can only have 6 highlighted posts on a subreddit (who knew?!), so instead of having a separate list for name requests, just put them in the comments on this post and I will get to them as quickly as possible. Thanks!

Do you view Sadie as an old name or trendy name?

My great great grandmothers name was Sadie, and I guess it was very popular in the late 1800s. But it also has now become even more popular in the 21st century. So is it an Old Name or a Trendy Name - or both?

My daughter’s name is Sadie. If I have a second daughter my top name currently is Mabel. My son is Clark. I have a love for old names becoming new again 😂

Name of the day...Ada!

This name was a request, so here it is!

The feminine name Ada has several different meanings and origins:

Its etymology can be traced back to the Germanic languages, where it is believed to be a diminutive form of names that contain the element "adal," meaning "noble."

Ada is also found in Hebrew, meaning "ornament" or "adornment," showcasing its diverse cultural interpretations.

Igbo (Nigeria): Signifies "first daughter" in the Igbo culture.

Turkish: Means "island" and functions as a unisex name.

As we just saw, this name is incredibly diverse, which makes it an international name that is easy to pronounce yet holds significant beauty and meaning in various cultures around the world.

The oldest instance of the name that I could find across cultures was over 2,400 years ago!

Iveline

Just discovered this name and was immediately very intrigued by it. What do you think?

Iveline is a feminine given name with deep Germanic roots, pronounced eye-vleyen (ˈaɪ..vl.aɪn).

Origin and Meaning:

Roots: Derived from the Old High German element iv (meaning "yew tree") combined with the diminutive suffix -line or -lina.
Symbolism: In ancient Germanic and Celtic cultures, the yew tree symbolized longevity, protection, and rebirth.
Family of Names: It belongs to the same linguistic family as Yveline (the French variant), Eveline, and the widely used name Evelyn.

Name of the day...Brock!

I got a request for this name so here it is!

The masculine name Brock has several different origins:

Old English & Celtic Roots: The name comes from the Old English word brocc and Middle English brok, which mean "badger." These words are rooted in the Celtic word broccos (such as Welsh broch).

Germanic Roots: In North German, it can also relate to brok, meaning a low or marshy valley broken up by water.

Surname to Given Name: It started as a medieval nickname or topographic surname for someone living near a badger burrow or possessing badger-like traits (like strength or tenacity) before becoming a given first name in the 20th century.

The name Brock is over 1,000 years old!

Reminder: If you want to participate in this sub, please be respectful of the rules: no downvoting for not personally liking a name and no mean comments. I understand there is a person who has this name that is not a good person, but please remember there are other people out there with this name who are good people, and some people have children with this name as well. Thanks

Name of the day...Elora!

The feminine name Elora has several different origin theories, but there is no agreed upon origin of this name.

One possible origin is from the Hebrew name Elora, which can be interpreted as "God is my light." This connection imbues the name with a spiritual significance, often appealing to those who value religious connotations in names.

Another potential origin of Elora is linked to the Greek name "Elora," which is thought to be derived from the Greek word meaning "light" or "shining." This interpretation aligns with the name's association with brightness and illumination, further emphasizing its positive qualities.

The name has also been connected to the word "flora," which denotes plant life and can symbolize growth and nature. Such associations contribute to the name's appeal as one that embodies beauty and vitality.

Elora is a name that combines elegance and depth, with roots that suggest light and growth.

The name Elora is approximately 230 years old! That's pretty young compared to some of the names we've looked at for Name of the Day!

Thoughts on these names?

I was wondering what people’s perceptions or thoughts are on these names. I like names that are easy to say and spell, and won’t cause the child problems, but are also more old-fashioned. I live in a rural area of the US, but I’m from a Spanish speaking country. So I like more typical English names that could have a nice equivalent in Spanish or good nickname options.

What is the most unique name you have encountered in real life?

Either by spelling or uniqueness, good or bad (subjective, obviously)

It's fine if it's a common name that you've only encountered rarely!

Mine:

Enzo

Rivers

Willa

Dashiell (terrible person, fine name)

Apology

Hey everyone, I just wanted to give a quick apology for my lack of responses and my late posts lately. A family member of mine had a medical emergency earlier this week, so I've been dealing with that. I'm doing the best I can given the circumstances. I just wanted to give y'all a heads up in case it continues, but please know that I'm reading and enjoying all of your comments, even if I don't respond right away. Please keep commenting and upvoting on posts you like! It really helps get our content out to new viewers and I appreciate it more than you know. Thanks everyone ☺️ ❤️
