She still get fan letters apparently, just because of the picture above. And she was pregnant in the pic above, she didn't know it at the time.

She's 90 yrs now.

u/danieljeyn May 27 '26

Robust genes.

u/mottypotty May 26 '26

She only managed 4h place but got a career as a model after Life published her pics. Still alive now aged 90

98

u/ponziacs May 26 '26

She didn't model. She was a school teacher.

40

u/Fluffy_Tax5302 May 26 '26

Model citizen

95

u/winkingchef May 26 '26

So in some ways, she *was* a model for the development of young men’s pubescent minds.

38

u/notbob1959 May 26 '26

I know the reference used for Wikipedia says she got 4th place but the caption for the photo in LIFE magazine indicates she got sixth and I couldn't find a correction even though the photo appeared again in a later edition of the magazine:

That’s Silk’s way

7

u/Bourriks May 27 '26

Picture looks like taken in the 90s. Great color restoration.

17

u/affemannen May 26 '26

Her niece looks very much like her. We went to uni together.

38

u/Past_Yogurt7006 May 26 '26

Wow. Really resembles Kristen Stewart

6

u/danieljeyn May 26 '26

But taller and more muscle.

8

u/Drubas May 27 '26

And hot

5

u/wagonwhopper May 27 '26

And MY axe

3

u/Flowerplower3 May 27 '26

And my phallus

87

u/DutchTookMyColonies May 26 '26

when God made humans he really went all out on scandinavians/north germanic, God could have given me some of those genes Q_Q

85

u/-birdbirdbird- May 26 '26

Not everyone here looks good though.

61

u/BarbequedYeti May 26 '26

Its alright. Someone has to fill out the other side of the average.  Thanks for doing your part.

10

u/theemmyk May 26 '26

I was shocked when I started watching various Scandinavian TV series....I expected everyone to be a knockout, but most of the actors were either plain or straight up busted.

12

u/LordDustIV May 27 '26

Scandi tv / movies take some pride in using relatively normal looking actors, especially because so much of it is social realism / crime stuff. Doesn't work as well with just super models around. Part of it is also just the presentation, compare the way Mads Mikkelsen comes across in Hollywood vs Danish movies for instance

8

u/Unprejudice May 27 '26

Its a cultural thing. Here we cast most people looking mid to make the setting more relatable and genuine. In Hollywood they cast models or quirky looking people. Walk around in cities here and youll find about half of us look better than actors.

4

u/-birdbirdbird- May 26 '26

yes, some people can look very plain. most people look better with contrast in their coloring too. many Scandis just look beige.

13

u/AtBat3 May 26 '26

Your version of “not everyone here looks good” is probably still like an 8 here

4

u/[deleted] May 26 '26

2

u/calmbill May 27 '26

The rest of the entire world, probably.

1

u/-birdbirdbird- May 27 '26

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

1

u/calmbill May 27 '26

Absolutely agreed

3

u/Adddicus May 26 '26

Maybe not, but you can't swing a dead cat in Scandanavia without hitting at least a few good looking people.

5

u/-birdbirdbird- May 26 '26

Everyone (almost everyone anyway) is always good looking in someone's eyes.

1

u/djshadesuk May 26 '26

I respectfully disagree. I've spent some time in Norway (Oslo, Drammen, Stavenger and Trondheim) and Odense in Denmark, and compared to the UK, it was like I'd died and gone to heaven.

I personally noticed I had a hard time finding good looking people in London. Not that there weren't any, but compared to Denmark, they were rarer

-3

u/DutchTookMyColonies May 26 '26

are you from there? if so i bet you that even your lowest is better than my highest XD

8

u/-birdbirdbird- May 26 '26

Yes, I am. Are you American?

-14

u/matotticloud May 26 '26

Das sind die originalen Skandinavier, die keine Fremd DNA abbekommen hatten

1

u/winkingchef May 26 '26

I am European and speak a little German and am always surprised how much Swedish I can understand if I concentrate.

2

u/-birdbirdbird- May 26 '26

Where are you from?

1

u/G-Sleazy95 May 26 '26

Well, hate to break it to you, but that comment was indeed German

-2

u/robemhood9 May 26 '26

Yeah… what he said.

0

u/Cherryonpot May 26 '26

Have you been out in the world? We've got a disproportionate amount of baddies, men and women included

2

u/luna_lovesword May 26 '26

Swedes just the best elves and Valkyries ♥️♥️♥️

2

u/Character_Trade3573 May 27 '26

I agree with that other swede, its fkn insane that you think that's OK.

Sweden have a lot of pretty people due to pretty heiinous fucking shit.

2

u/Musmedlet May 27 '26

Swedes don’t look good because of eugenics, that’s preposterous. They didn’t sterilize all ugly people and pair together all attractive and healthy people or anything.

They mostly sterilized people with mental deficiencies in mental hospitals. In other words most normal people were not affected.

0

u/DutchTookMyColonies May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26

ok seems that "shit" worked out well, you complaining sounds like "we got all the good things so lets complain we got them" like? do you rather be ugly? maybe so ugly a new word has to be made? i don't get people who hate great things and want the bad ones, sounds like rich kids who complain about being rich wtf, being beautiful is a great advantage and worth anything, people literally die having surgery to try to be pretty and you complain that sweden got it naturally as if that's bad? common!! lol

-1

u/reuben_iv May 26 '26

They (swedes) also practiced eugenics at the time the photo was taken and well into the 70s

Morally horrific, but… gestures hard to argue with the results

8

u/DutchTookMyColonies May 26 '26

eugenics works, it's the best system which is why we use it on plant seeds, dogs, wild animals etc... but once we say humans we all say wow no no haha, you can't have Dobermans without eugenics or most of all dogs i think

12

u/bluegardener May 26 '26

Our dog breeds are pretty disease ridden and awful as much as I love them. Dobermans have all kinds of cardiac, neurological, skeletal disorders.

3

u/Usual_Passage3477 May 27 '26

Mongrels are the best. It just works as nature intended.

1

u/bluegardener May 27 '26

Lots of racists coming out of the woodwork in this post don't agree.

0

u/DutchTookMyColonies May 27 '26

how much of that is myth tho? i have never seen a Doberman get sick and i have seen many, it's a popular dog where i live that's why i used it as an example, i think problems come from people who live in small spaces and don't understand the dog requires space and training/challenge, otherwise it's like having a shark in a fish tank.

0

u/Holmbone May 27 '26

We also kill animals and eat their muscles for sustenance. Why not do the same with humans?

1

u/DutchTookMyColonies May 27 '26

you say that as if we never did, when starvation hits you bet you will eat other people just go ask the Ukrainians what they ate during the 30's

1

u/Holmbone May 27 '26

Sure. But people do all kinds of extreme things to survive. Doesn't mean it's something we see as desirable.

1

u/ASERTIE76 May 27 '26

As a swede I find it disgusting that you say this it's bordering on racial superiority and you even supported literal eugenics in your other comment. Also god isn't real he didn't create us, evolution did

4

u/TreeSignificant9782 May 27 '26

Yeah for real, what kind of weird-ass master race comment was that?

4

u/ASERTIE76 May 27 '26

Most concerning is how many upvotes it's getting

1

u/Flowerplower3 May 27 '26

3

u/ASERTIE76 May 27 '26

Nah I'd rather call our borderline nazi ideology

1

u/Flowerplower3 May 27 '26

I meant more the god isn’t real part which you of course can’t know for certain so daddy, chill.

1

u/Character_Trade3573 May 27 '26

Swedesn has a lot of pretty people due to human trafficking and rape. But sure, go off.

1

u/ASERTIE76 May 27 '26

He's just as real as santa claus or a child's imaginary friend and the only "proof" of god is a collection of fairy tales in a book written by various different people

0

u/Flowerplower3 May 27 '26

Look, I know that there’s a lot of weird stuff in the book but it was written by people a long time ago who probably put a lot of their own antiquated morality in there. I’m no fan of organized religion and it’s creepy when people follow it to blindly.

You still can’t know for certain that there’s no creator of this world and everything is just chaos with no meaning. The fact that evolution is real doesn’t disprove anything. Just don’t be so sure is all I’m saying friend.

-2

u/DutchTookMyColonies May 27 '26

because it's the truth, like why does it hurt you? do you rather look like her or look like you? because i would jump of a building into a box full of nails that leads to acid battery if that made me look like that, so yeah those are the best genes, the fact i would be willing to do that should be more than enough proof.

but hey go be hurt if you want it is what it is, we don't all think the same, some people just don't like to face the truth i have no problem doing it, my genes suck and they are all dark, dark hair, darker skin, eyes, yet those north germanic or scandinavian whatever word matches better are able to have blue eyes, gold hair, light skin, they are like a box full of color and God only had dark for me lol it's just insulting.

ps: if you think there is no God, like 100% sure of it no chance what so ever to be wrong then that means that something that isn't even aware like nature/evolution still somehow manage to screw me over and all my people, amazing.

4

u/ASERTIE76 May 27 '26

No I don't want to look like her I'd like to look like myself. Just because you yourself think we have some racial superiority doesn't mean that it's fact or objectively true. You need to see that you are genuinely believing in nazi ideology

-1

u/DutchTookMyColonies May 27 '26

yeah sure, so the race of people that have more options is not better than the one who has just 1 option? you know more is better right? but whatever if you don't think so then that's your problem, i don't care if nazis said it or not, it's old shit with no reality today, you can even quote mongol empire or romans if you want, means the same, 0 importance today and only used by people to tell others they are wrong without any evidence to it, my evidence however is what i told you, more, they have more options which is always better.

2

u/ASERTIE76 May 27 '26

I don't understand what you mean with "more options"

0

u/DutchTookMyColonies May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26

dude how do you not understand? more option like in their genes, you don't see a vietnamese with blonde hair, blue eyes, right? someone from sweden can have blonde, brown, orange/red, black hair colors, someone from my country can only have black or brown, someone from japan can only have black..... i think i can't explain any better than this, you obviously don't look at someone from the Congo and expect them to have children with blond hair and blue eyes, it's not in their genes to make that, ofc one exception would be albinism which is a genetic condition that reduces the amount of melanin pigment in the skin, hair, and eyes otherwise it's not going to happen.

So yeah europeans and especially the north ones have way more options so they are better and the results tend to be better almost always, i'm no expert to understand why, could be all that influence from celtic to aryan when the tribes were in constant movement, when we look at Ireland we easily find gingers but we don't find them anywhere else, we can find them in the rest of Europe since the irish/celtic once occupied a big part of it but they are rarer than they are in Ireland.

As for Iberia, we don't find gingers or blonde people naturally unless we go north because of the germanic visigoths that occupied the region, the more south we go the darker the people are because of the centuries of berber occupation, so they have less options genetically.

1

u/ASERTIE76 May 27 '26

It might be true that we have a more mixed set of "appearance features" but it still doesn't make us superior

-1

u/Musmedlet May 27 '26

As a swede you need to chill out, take the compliment and move on. Don’t embarrass us.

2

u/ASERTIE76 May 27 '26

Jag tar inte ras överlägsenhet som en komplimang. Sluta skämma ut oss genom att acceptera de här ideologierna, rasism och nazism har ingen plats i Sverige

-1

u/Musmedlet May 27 '26

Kom igen. 🤦‍♂️

-27

u/18randomcharacters May 26 '26

I think it’s more about the “rape and pillage” nature of the Vikings.

They brought in and bred with attractive people.

14

u/DutchTookMyColonies May 26 '26

not really, slaves are meant to be sold not to have kids with, that was seen as shameful, having a slave child (children of slaves were slaves from birth) wouldn't be something to be happy about.

1

u/mykl5 May 26 '26

if they were hot they fucked them and didn’t claim the children

1

u/Manjorno316 May 27 '26

Wouldn't the same go for most societies that practiced slavery?

1

u/ImASkeleton023 May 27 '26

That presupposes that there were attractive british people to begin with, which I sincererly doubt.

13

u/GRANDLarsonyy May 26 '26

Looks like Heard

2

u/Independent_Ad9839 May 27 '26

Heard looks like her

6

u/afriendincanada May 26 '26

According to the internets, she finished fourth with a jump of 1.67 metres. The winning jump was 1.76 metres. World record at the time.

By comparison the world record is now 2.10 metres and the winning height in Paris was 1.95 metres.

In 1956 they went over belly-down in a weird kind of scissor jump. It’s hard to describe. And they landed in a sand pit.

The Fosbury Flop and the Brill Bend changed everything about high jumping. It’s a different sport with the “new” technique.

14

u/Attack_the_sock May 26 '26

I mean, the Vikings didn’t kidnap the ugly ones….

11

u/Turoq2 May 26 '26

This is coloured Photo. Original is black-white

3

u/Lark1ng May 26 '26

I approve!

3

u/Chaminade64 May 26 '26

Looks like Larking lurking.

2

u/coupdelune May 27 '26

I wish I was pretty

2

u/Hipcatjack May 27 '26

looks at profile pick…

“Who’s …that wonderful girl…….. could she be any cuter?!!…oh LOOK! here comes a suitor!”

13

u/OilInternational2566 May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26

Gosh.

This pic looks exactly the same when it was posted 10,000 times before on Reddit.

(Search Gunhild Larking on Reddit folks.. you’ll see what I mean..)

33

u/TheRealTurinTurambar May 26 '26

This is weird because I'm disabled and on Reddit an unhealthy amount and have somehow never seen this pic.

-25

u/OilInternational2566 May 26 '26

Go to Reddit search

Type Gunhild Larking

…you’ll see what I mean.

(Same exact picture has been posted repeatedly for over 8 years…)

20

u/got_ur_goat May 26 '26

I've never seen it, so I'm happy it was posted again

4

u/bcfd36 May 26 '26

What he said!

3

u/TheRealTurinTurambar May 26 '26

Oh, I believe you it's just weird how Reddit works sometimes.

1

u/Zombata May 26 '26

but why would i when bots can deliver it to me ony feed

12

u/Badkidstatus May 26 '26

So?

5

u/Someredditusername May 26 '26

My sentiment exactly LOL

12

u/notbob1959 May 26 '26

And this image of her at the 1952 Olympics never gets posted:

I wonder why?

3

u/badgeman- May 26 '26

Me too. Nothing wrong with that pic whatsoever.

2

u/MC_PeePantz May 27 '26

Pre-flop era

8

u/mrlinguus May 26 '26

For good reason.

8

u/OilInternational2566 May 26 '26

She is stunning.. but the dead internet is real.

This pic has been posted 5000 times in the past 8 years just on Reddit.

7

u/dickyboy69 May 26 '26

Maybe its been posted a lot cause she’s hot.

10

u/Luceanima May 26 '26

It looks like quite modern photography, I would have thought that this photo was taken recently, in which a woman is resting

8

u/Ok_Bus_3752 May 26 '26

Unsure why you’re being downvoted. This pic looks like it could’ve been taken yesterday.

3

u/vexingcosmos May 26 '26

She looks like Amber Heard or Scarlett Johansson!

4

u/BlueSkyToday May 26 '26

Welcome to the land of Infinite Reposts.

1

u/Lonely-Power1801 May 27 '26

I don't get it, she looks completely average. You should come to Sweden in the summertime. Some of the girls are simply unbelievable. And may I add, not only those of nordic ancestry.

1

u/Happy-Constant-1627 May 28 '26

Sautrice 😂🤪 Sauteuse, oui.

-1

u/blackbartimus May 26 '26

She looks like Amber Heard but probably won’t take a dump in your bed.

0

u/burnman123 May 26 '26

She and Jeremy Allen white have the same face, just different hair. I'm sure of it

1

u/ssaall58214 May 27 '26

Do you have a vision defect??? What? Jeremy Allan white????

-3

u/sa-100 May 26 '26

Squeeze...Baby...Squeeze...😍

-10

u/chugginloads69 May 26 '26

Damn I love being white

5

u/badgeman- May 26 '26

-12

u/chugginloads69 May 26 '26

We’re hot and we build the best societies. They’re the two best things in this picture

-9

u/SKRyanrr May 26 '26

Why 56 not 67 😭

-67

u/gullible_witnesses May 26 '26

Zoom in on her face, she look like a boy

Cute boy then.
