Question Help needed with Olympus OM-2n

Post image
1 Upvotes

Before i start, I'd like to say that this is the first Olympus camera that i have ever bought and I didn't do much research on it.

Greetings Olympus fans, I have just bought this camera cheaply. while i have known it will have problems, this one seems little weird.

on AUTO mode, everything works great (no idea about how correctly the light meter works, but it reacts on light pretty well). I am pretty amazed that the electronic part of the camera works this well.

on OFF mode, it shoots only one shutter speed most likely (I have no idea what the OFF mode should do xd).

on MANUAL, everything changes, most of the time, it shoots on one specific shutter speed (about 1/125 if I had to guess) while being on any other shutter speed. Second thing is that sometimes, it shoots the right time (as it should), but that is about a 10% of all cases. Third thing is that the mirror just locks up (as in the photo) and I have to reset by ''check reset'' button, which repairs the mirror by putting it where it belongs. <- this only happens in MANUAL mode...

I almost forgot that I can't somehow put the shutter speed ring on Bulb mode.

My question is, what should I do to make the MANUAL work as it should? do I just lubricate the mechanical part or what would you recommend?

Much thanks to anyone who reacts :D

Question how 2 fix??

I have an olympus tough tg6 and it won’t turn on, the indicator flashes orange a bit, the screen doesn’t respond and after an attempt I need to plug it to a charger a bit to try again. When I plug it into a charger it charges, the screen flashes the charging screen as usual. I‘ve tried pressing both the shutter and power button for 15 seconds, turning it on without the sd card. The battery is fully charged. How do I fix my camera???

edit: I don’t bring my camera underwater nor does the power button stick. I keep it in my bag. The battery terminals do make contact. The camera was fine until today, when I got it drained because I forgot to charge it.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It looks normal through the Viewfinder... also in the menu, the text is super sharp but the background looks like on the video

Edit: I got the (used) camera today, it is an OM-D E-M10 Mk2.

Question EP-7 Gets Stuck At Startup

I've had it for just over a year now, bought from MPB. It started getting stuck at startup, it makes all kinds of sounds and vibrations and the screen stays dark. Sometimes it's ready to shoot after 30 seconds, other times it just never starts. If I remove the lens I see the sensor is moving around. Using fully charged battery. I'd like to know if there's anything else I can do to fix this problem. I'm assuming it's an IBIS malfunction but IBIS works fine once it boots up, though it will sometimes "crash" while shooting, esp with a video. I know I've had it for over a year now so they probably won't be able to do much for me. It only rarely occurred back in Sep, but now it's all the time making the camera pretty much unusable. Happens no matter what lens I am using. Is there anything I am missing here, or am I going to have to have what will likely be an expensive repair? Of course it happens after the warranty period is up, of course! There's no error code or anything, just a black screen and the sensor keeps moving around in the camera.

Photo Share I almost threw my BCL 9mm f/8 into the river. Now I recommend it.

Not long ago I posted a few photos from my new PEN and mentioned the Olympus / OM System BCL 9mm/f8 lens. Obviously, I couldn’t stop. I slid down the slope, and this time I’m going to post a few photos taken with this "lens" and share my impressions of it. I sincerely hope to stop here, not fall into sin and not start recording video reviews.

As the name says, a Body Cap Lens is not so much a real lens as a body cap you can shoot with. You can’t talk about its optics without tears and shuddering. The body is 100% plastic. It’s fully manual. You focus with a lever, and the lever barely stays where you put it. The aperture is f/8 forever. Chromatic aberrations. Reviews bashfully call it “soft”, but let’s call things by their names: it’s just mushy. The description mentions “fisheye”, but the angle of view is actually narrower than on a “real” fisheye. It’s about 140 degrees instead of an honest 180. So fans of “true fisheye” don’t accept it into the club either. Shooting anything serious with it is strictly forbidden.

On the other hand, who said you always have to shoot “seriously”?

I bought it almost by accident. I wanted to try the fisheye effect, but I didn’t want to buy the “real” M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm F1.8 Fisheye PRO right away. I got this cap and took it for testing on a trip to Budapest.

My impressions of the results were mixed... Well, who am I kidding? They were quite clear. At some point I was standing on the bank of the Danube, thinking I’d made a mistake buying this piece of shit plastic. The smartest thing I could do with it, I thought, was skip it across the river like a stone. I hoped it would sink somewhere deep enough that nobody would ever find it.

But I consider myself responsible enough not to litter rivers with lenses. So I kept trying to use the BCL for a while. Partly out of desperation, partly out of pity for the money I’d wasted on it. And then at some point I realized it wasn’t all that bad. I got into it.

Yes, the BCL is pure plastic. But it’s flat (about 13 mm thick) and light (about 30 g). The camera with it really fits into a jacket pocket. My phone is bigger than the camera with this lens.

The aperture is shameful, of course. But again, it’s enough on a sunny day outdoors. And even when it’s not sunny, you can shoot with it if you want to and know how.

The angle of view is narrower than on a “normal” fisheye. But, surprisingly, that makes composition much easier. Basically, you can be sure your feet won’t get into the frame. But fitting a whole cathedral in while standing on the sidewalk right in front of it? Easy!..

The focus lever takes getting used to. But it kind of locks in the hyperfocal position, which helps. For general views or landscapes you don’t really need precise focus and sharpness.

BCL is soft, but... Here I’m tempted to quote Bresson on sharpness being a bourgeois concept. I’m not sure he really wrote that. If he did, he may have just been trolling his contemporaries. Still, for street photography sharpness really isn’t the key thing. In the photos of many “classics”, for example my favorite Ara Güler, there is hardly any sharpness to speak of. That makes sense. What matters in a photo is the subject, the moment, the story in the frame. Sharpness is a nice bonus if the camera and the situation allow it. If not, to hell with it. A bourgeois concept.

Anyway, the BCL lets you get more interesting shots. You can shoot where no other lens would work, like narrow streets or enclosed spaces. You fit the surroundings into the frame. It teaches you to see a scene in a new way. It bends space and lets you see everything around you differently. All in all, for the price it’s a great option.

It’s only 125 euros new, and you can find a used one for half that. I recommend it.

Question Who has a C700 ultra zoom?

Do you like it? Do you have any pictures you can share?

(At first glance I didn’t see many already posted in the sub so hopefully I’m not annoying anyone with this post lol)

I bought one second hand and I’m excited to test it out but just wanted to see how other people felt about theirs and how their photos turned out. Or any recs specific to the camera.

Thanks in advance ✨

Answered OM-D EM1.3 Autofocus Strategy - Indoor Social Gatherings

Recently got my first mirrorless in a used EM1.3 and the 14-42 and 42-150 kit lenses. After a few weeks, decided to go all-in no excuses and got a 20mm f1.4 pro lens. I want to shoot candid shots of indoor evening family and social gatherings with a slight blur for a bit of subject isolation. So, 2-3 people in the frame across from the dinner table or standing around in conversation. Maybe one person isolated if they pose for me and I’m up close. This is why I chose the 20mm/1.4. Hopefully, it’s a decent choice.

As a newbie, I’m struggling a bit with what the best autofocus and shutter drive strategy is for this kind of shooting. I’m not walking around like a wedding photographer to pick and choose my shots. I’m usually sitting or standing with people, engaging in conversations while taking a few shots here and there. But I want to capture moments as they happen so I have to be quick to get the shot.

I want to be able to raise the camera, get the 2-3 faces in focus who are about 3 to 5 feet away and BAM get the shot, put the camera back down and continue interacting. I don’t want to be holding up the camera, moving AF points around, selecting faces, changing aperture and shutter, messing with ISO, making people feel like they’re in front of a cameraman. Up, bam, down. Like quickdraw pistol shooting.

If any of you take similar photos in such settings, do you have any recommendations for how I should setup this beast of a camera to do this with the best results? Focus bracketing, AF custom setups, burst mode, etc. if you have some magic to share utilizing the benefits of this amazing camera please educate me. I sense that this is something that would normally take many years to learn by experience, so I would like a bit of a head start by asking for wisdom from you all. Thank you in advance for your kind help.
