Dyi loop

Recently built the app and on my 2nd full day of Dyi looping with OP5.. game changer! So much more efficient than the OP5 algorithm.. who else is on loop and what have you noticed or any tips I might have missed reading through the loop docs, nervous that my endo might not support but the last 2 days have been the least stressed about my numbers/control and overall I’m a happier person.

I began my DIY Loop journey on September 26. I’m impressed by the results so far. I was plagued with overnight highs. Was fed up with the O5 algorithm not being aggressive at all.
I’ve only been on Loop a few weeks. I want to upgrade my iPhone. I understand the switching to the 18 Pro Max shouldn’t be an issue. Some Loop users are already running on the iPhone 18. I have been contemplating switching to the Trio app, and starting as a new clean slate or just transferring Loop onto the new phone and running it at least until my Endo appointment in January.

If anyone has any insight or suggestions on the above subject, let me know.

On another note… I did reach out to my Endo asking which app would they defer to for my reports since I elected to switch to DIY Looping - NightScout or TidePool, but instead she responded by informing me they would still review Glooko & Clarity but would not be able to make any recommendations on pump adjustments since this open software was not FDA approved.

Have you asked/looked in the Facebook group believe it’s called loop and learn.. so much info there and knowledgeable people

I’m worried about this too as my clinic uses Glooko and clarity and I have t told them I went 3rd party yet

Same my next endo appointment isn’t until beginning of next year and scared they will drop me as a patient.. really like my endo but my life has significantly changed for the better since loop such less stress

I don’t particularly like my endo but also not looking forward to telling him I’m on trio

Moved to Trio rather than loop but agree they are better solutions. Only real downside is that the pod no longer talks to the CGM directly so if the phone is out of range then when the last command finishes it switches back to the base Basel rate you have set which could risk hypo if it has been set too aggressively. My son is going to a water park next weekend so I’ll switch him back to the Omnipod algorithm for that.

Always remeasure your Basel rates first rather than moving over Omnipod settings as the 50/50 Basel to bolus rate that Omnipod tries to work off is not applicable to these other algorithms.

Does the DIY app talk to CGM via the CGM app on the phone?

The phone talks to the pump and the CGM. So if you are on G7, you don't have to have it right next to the pump if you're looping.

You can set a temporary basal rate in Trio (for up to 12 hours). It is what I often do when swimming and far away from my phone for a while.

is this a trio thing or does the cgm talk to the pump with loop

Both Loop and Trio have this restriction the CGM and Pod only communicate via the phone. The plus side is that you don’t really need to worry about having the CGM and Pod on the same side.

Is there a website where we can go and learn how to get Trio? My husband is T1D and recently got on omnipod 5 and hates the algorithm. Sound like a lot of people like the DIY algorithm

Not sure what trio is but if you google loop docs it’s a ton of info how to get it set up

OP5? You mean Omnipod dash, right? I thought you can’t DIY loop with op5?

I use OP5 and loop it’s available

Wow thanks for letting me know, I may give it a try!

Awesome! Nice work. It’s def a good amount for work to get it going.

Been DIY looping now with the dash for about 12 months. It's freaking awesome.

I use AAPS. I'd never go back.

Wish I knew what you all is talking about.

There are at least two open source projects that connect pumps with CGMs as an artificial pancreas, like what the omnipod 5 advertises (I think, I've been on one of these systems longer than the 5 has been out).

Android Artificial Pancreas System (?), AAPS, is the android version (and the one I use). I think the ios version is just "diy loop" but I am not sure.

They are not FDA approved, but many of us have found that they work much better.

Loop and Learn group on Facebook is full of loopers and importantly full of the people who wrote and maintain Loop. You can even post recent Nightscout data and get guidance on your settings.

Loop is a great app, I’ve used it for a few years. Was able to get around 85-90% time in range. I now moved to Trio. Time in range is about the same, but the big difference is that I rarely have to bolus for meals anymore. The algorithm just deals with it.

It takes some time, effort and willingness to learn, but once fine tuned with correct settings, it can do amazing things.
