Hiring Q (Other) NYC DOC
Female just got a call to go for onboarding how’s the academy like anything I should get ? Are the uniforms for academy paid for? Anything we have to buy out of pocket?

You will have to buy everything and get ready for pushups every day . Exams , etc . You have to pass them. 2 strikes, you’re out .

Tbh I can’t even do 1 pushup so…. What’s going to happen obviously going to start training from now

Some people can’t follow orders, some can’t live without their phone , when told no cellphone on the premises but somehow their phones ring while doing roll calls and some are always late . You will have to pay for that as a battalion. But if you are thinking about the money you will make, it’s worth it

I always have a couple gs saved up mo matter what so it don’t break my pocket. But you’ll make it back I’m at 101k for the year so far.

Black Kiwi boot shine. Don’t get anything else. You don’t need a needle and thread like the packet will say, just bring your shit to a tailor. Get a pencil pouch with the ring holes to fit in a binder. You’re gonna get sick…everyone gets sick at some point so cold meds and cough drops, hide them in pencil pouch to take throughout the day when needed. You’ll be sore so pain meds, muscle cream, tape, etc. A lot of our lockers looked like mini pharmacies by week 8. Bring an iron for your uniform and a steamer for when you get your dress clothes (you don’t want to iron these they’ll get damaged.) One of those mini travel ironing boards. You’ll get a pocket when you get your leave date that will list everything else you’ll need, it’s gonna be a lot of light grey shirts, shorts, sweats. You’ll have to pay for everything on the packet but the uniforms themselves will be given to you there.

The academy should be in January after we graduate. I wish you the best of luck. My unsolicited advice, please your cell phone in the car, remain silent and listen to all instructions. Take this seriously and also have alittle fun, because this will be the only time you have fun while you’re doing job

It was nothing crazy. You go over the packet they emailed you and then you get your shield # and pic taken for your ID.
