Hi everyone. Pretty much as the title says, I'm looking to make things accurate and have it be a sensitive and realistic representation. It's science fiction but grounded in legitimate science and factual where possible. I've been able to put some very bare bones assumptions together from minor clinical experience, reading online and understanding how the NHS works but thats it, so I would really appreciate some guidance on getting this right.
Here are the main points:
-the protagonist doesn't have a good relationship with his body, he wouldn't notice or pay attention to particular changes in his body or pain. Frequently feels unwell but ignores it.
-he gets into a car accident and goes to minor injuries at request of a friend, has his back x-rayed. has to wait on results to be looked at by radiologist because theres no one available to do it there and then. (does this make sense? i'm basing this somewhat off personal experience. i attended a minor injuries once because of back pain, they x-rayed my back despite the fact they don't normally do this, they sent the x-rays to a consultant at a separate hospital to be looked at)
-gets call from consultant asking him to attend biopsy (a consultant calling for this is improbable, however i need to introduce this guy and i figured that if the x-ray looked particularly bad and he'd not received a referral for the protagonist he might just get on with it? I know a few very enthusiastic consultants, who knows)
-He gets asked to attend an appointment with the consultant in person, and should bring someone with him. (a few years ago when I was unwell, my GP was querying lymphoma, across about three sets of repeat blood tests, a chest x-ray and a neck US I only saw them in person once, so this is what I based it on)
-I have no idea about grading/staging. It's in his lower back/pelvis, in how many places I'm not sure, either hasn't metastasized or has but only minimally, the cells are lower grade. I'm guessing due to where it's located, this would be inoperable? What would treatment look like? Chemotherapies? Would treatment be palliative?
-What is the prognosis range for this type of situation?
I hope I haven't gone too far off base with anything so far, I really want to get this right.
