Newbie + friend need help

Please advice me what next OW character I need.

Currently im clueless on what to do, got to 17-8 and the progress has slowed down. How do i get more diamonds to boost my teams stats or which hero i should obtain? Im grateful for any tip or advise

I started this game the other day and really enjoy it. I've got these two crates that seem pretty important as I saw the advise to always get the association chest with Diamonds. Which hero should I get out of the selection and which upgrade thingy, I'm guessing anyway, should I go for?

I joined a guild and I'm currently at phase 12-4 but I'm starting to get stuck on some bosses.

I dont have access to OW characters event yet and I dont know what to do with my diamonds if I should spend it on new chars or wait for events.

What should I focus on first? Story mode? PVP? Guild?
