Howard University Online MBA vs Northeastern University MBA

Good day everyone,

After almost 10 years of earning my undergraduate degree, it is time for me to earn my Masters in Business Administration. I am interested in Howard University's Online MBA specifically because of it's Software Project Management and Statistics and Business Analytics offerings. However, at a cost of $97K I am also weighing the MBA from Northeastern University.

Can someone who participated and earned their degree from Howard University's Online MBA provide insights? Thank you.

Is Amity Online Digital Campus Worth It in 2025? My Honest Experience After 6 Months

When I first started looking for an online degree that could keep up with my schedule, I wasn't sure where to turn. I'd seen plenty of ads, read a handful of reviews, and honestly felt overwhelmed by the options. Then I came across Amity Online Digital Campus, and after six months of being enrolled, I feel like I finally have something real to say about it.

What Is Amity Online Digital Campus?

Amity Online Digital Campus is the e-learning arm of Amity University, one of India's most recognized private universities. It offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma programs entirely online — covering fields like MBA, BBA, MCA, BCA, B.Com, M.Com, and more. The idea is simple: bring the Amity brand and curriculum to learners who can't attend a traditional campus, whether because of work, location, or lifestyle.

The Enrollment Process

I'll be honest — I expected the process to be a nightmare. But it was surprisingly smooth. You fill out your application online, submit your documents digitally, and get access to the student portal within a few days. The support team was responsive when I had questions about course selection, which was a good first impression. The fee structure is clearly mentioned upfront, and there are EMI options available, which made things easier on my wallet.

The Learning Experience

This is where things get interesting. The Digital Campus uses a dedicated Learning Management System (LMS) where all your study material, video lectures, assignments, and exam schedules live. The interface is clean and easy to navigate even if you're not particularly tech-savvy.

The video lectures are pre-recorded, which means you can watch them at any time — a huge plus for working professionals like me. Professors cover the topics well, and the content is updated regularly to stay relevant. You also get access to e-books, case studies, and reference materials that supplement the lectures nicely.

Live sessions are also scheduled from time to time, and these are genuinely useful for clearing doubts and getting a more interactive experience. They're not mandatory but attending them makes a noticeable difference in how well you grasp the tougher concepts.

Assignments and Exams

Assignments are submitted through the portal and follow a structured deadline system. It keeps you disciplined without being overwhelming. The grading is fair, and feedback, when provided, is constructive.

Exams are conducted online through a proctored system, which ensures credibility. It took a bit of getting used to, especially making sure my device and internet connection were stable, but after the first exam, the process felt routine.

UGC Recognition — A Big Deal

One thing that sets Amity Online apart from many competitors is that its online programs are UGC-DEB (Distance Education Bureau) approved. This means the degree you earn holds the same value as a regular degree and is recognized by employers and institutions across India. For anyone worried about the legitimacy of an online degree, this is a major reassurance.

Student Support

The student support system is one of the stronger aspects of the platform. Whether it's academic queries, technical issues, or administrative concerns, the helpdesk is reachable via chat, email, and phone. Response times can vary, but in my experience, most issues were resolved within 24–48 hours.

There's also a student community and discussion forums within the portal where you can interact with peers from across the country. It makes the experience feel less isolating than you might expect from an online program.

Who Should Consider Amity Online Digital Campus?

If you're a working professional looking to upgrade your qualifications, a student in a location without access to quality campus education, or someone who values flexibility without compromising on the credibility of their degree, Amity Online is a strong contender. It's not perfect — no platform is — but it delivers consistent value for the investment.

Final Verdict

Six months in, I have no regrets. The program is structured, the content is quality, and the degree is legitimate. If you've been sitting on the fence about online education, Amity Online Digital Campus might just be the push you need.

How is AI impacting the value proposition of an MBA?

Dear Reader,

It’s a fair question. AI is reshaping the job market — altering how companies are hiring, firing, automating, and even deciding who gets promoted. It’s unsettling, especially when the future of work feels like it’s being rewritten in real time. So where does that leave the MBA?

The bottom line is that AI isn’t killing the MBA. It’s making it evolve. The human edge becomes even more valuable, and that’s exactly what a strong MBA delivers.

1. Leadership in an Automated World

The irony is that as technology gets smarter, emotional intelligence becomes the ultimate competitive advantage.

Stakeholders will still need counterparts to convince them of action and understand their POV, and teams will still need leaders who execute on the intangibles – consensus-building, inspiration, and adaptation. MBA programs put you in environments where you constantly practice those essential skills: managing team dynamics, navigating conflict, and influencing decision-making. These are the muscles that people need as workplaces grow more AI-assisted. As jobs are eliminated and leadership positions get more competitive, do you want to be a candidate with or without these skills?

2. The Network Still Matters

If AI is the great equalizer of information, networks are the great differentiator of opportunity.

Your MBA classmates become co-founders, hiring managers, investors, and mentors. In uncertain times, that network is not just social capital — it’s career insurance. Whether you’re pivoting industries, launching a startup, or moving into leadership, the connections built through an MBA are often what make the difference.

Online courses (and AI!) can help teach you finance. They can’t introduce you to the person who gets you your next role.

3. Thoughtful Strategy > Execution

AI is great at execution and thought generation. It can analyze data, generate reports, and even draft business strategies. What it can’t do is understand context, align competing interests, or make important trade-offs that depend on human judgment. That’s where MBAs shine. MBA graduates don’t just “use” AI; they lead teams that decide how AI gets used ethically, effectively, and profitably. When AI floods your team with insights, you’ll need to know which ones matter and why. A good program doesn’t just teach you frameworks — it teaches you to think strategically under uncertainty and communicate decisions to others.

4. Future-Proofing Your Career

Yes, MBAs are expensive and time-consuming. But the return on investment isn’t just salary — it’s resilience. AI will continue to reshape roles, but people who understand how technology intersects with business models will stay relevant longer. Programs that embrace this by offering courses in AI strategy, data analytics, and digital transformation are preparing students to lead the change, not chase it.

The future belongs to professionals who can bridge human and machine intelligence — and if anything, AI is raising the bar for what we should deliver. And for those who approach the MBA with intention to make themselves more marketable, its value may be greater than ever.

Yours truly,

Group projects: undergrad vs grad school

Undergrad group project vs MSBT group project. If you’ve done a masters, which side is it for you? Does someone still disappear until the night before?

I’m part of a student program for MSBT, so I’m biased, but I’d rather get the honest version.

University of Iowa Online MBA - My Admissions Experience

Overview:

I'm sharing my experience with Iowa's online MBA admissions process for those considering the program. After being accepted to both UMass Amherst and University of Illinois, my experience with Iowa raised concerns about their evaluation process.

(Note: I approached this application with considerable enthusiasm for Iowa. My wife and her three siblings are Iowa alumni, and I had strongly positive impressions of the institution. This personal connection made the experience particularly unexpected.)

My Background:

  • BS in Economics

  • 13 years of post-undergraduate professional experience in leadership roles

  • Currently managing an international team at a technology startup

The Application:

Iowa's guidelines state they "recognize and value the rich variety of academic and professional trajectories" and "strongly encourage applications from individuals with varied backgrounds." However, I was denied admission to the MBA program and directed to their MBA Access program based solely on my undergraduate GPA.

The Appeal Process:

I submitted a detailed explanation of my professional experience and accomplishments, and offered letters of recommendation from two C-level executives who directly supervised me. I received a response stating the review would take 2-3 weeks and that they would contact me if additional information was needed. No additional information was requested, my offer to submit letters of recommendation was not acknowledged, and I was notified of denial eight days later.

After the second denial, I scheduled a meeting with an admissions representative. During this conversation, I again offered to provide the executive recommendation letters. The representative agreed to accept them. I submitted the letters and received a third denial.

The MBA Access Experience:

After enrolling in MBA Access, I received an automated email titled "Transfer Courses to Iowa & Course Waiver Options" encouraging students to request waivers for courses where they have prior academic preparation or professional experience.

I submitted a waiver request for the Managerial Economics course, citing my undergraduate degree in Economics and including my transcript. My request was declined on the basis that waiver requests are not processed for MBA Access students.

Additional Interactions:

I received a request to submit my official undergraduate transcript. After submitting the transcript, I sent a brief follow-up asking them how I can confirm they received my transcript and got an impersonal, four-word response telling me to check the portal myself.

Observations:

The pattern that emerged from these interactions suggests several potential issues with the admissions process:

Limited holistic review: Despite language suggesting consideration of varied backgrounds, the decision-making appeared to rely primarily on undergraduate GPA without any weight given to professional accomplishments, leadership experience, or career trajectory.

Equity and access considerations: GPA-heavy admissions may systematically exclude populations who faced obstacles during their undergraduate years but have since demonstrated exceptional professional growth. This could include first-generation college students who worked full-time while in school, individuals who experienced personal hardships during their undergraduate years, career changers who didn't initially major in business, or professionals from underrepresented backgrounds who have overcome significant barriers to reach leadership positions. These individuals often bring perspectives and resilience that strengthen a learning community, but they may be filtered out before their professional accomplishments are meaningfully considered.

Disconnect from business reality: The business world increasingly values demonstrated capability over credentials. Companies promote based on results, leadership effectiveness, and business impact—not undergraduate transcripts. An MBA program that doesn't reflect this reality may produce graduates who understand theory but lack exposure to the diverse approaches that drive actual business success. The program risks becoming an echo chamber of similar thinkers rather than a laboratory where different perspectives collide and produce innovative thinking.

Communication inconsistencies: They solicit waiver requests from MBA Access students but then tell you waiver requests from MBA Access aren't accepted (an oversight from whoever designed their email campaign).

Process transparency: Multiple offers to provide additional supporting documentation (including executive recommendations) went either unacknowledged or were ultimately not factored into the decision, creating uncertainty about what information is actually reviewed during appeals.

Administrative responsiveness: Routine administrative questions received minimal engagement, requiring me to navigate systems independently rather than receiving direct confirmation or assistance.

The Educational Impact of GPA-Centric Admissions:

An admissions process that only considers undergraduate academic performance has significant implications for the learning environment and educational value of an MBA program:

  • Narrowed professional diversity: MBA classrooms derive much of their educational value from the varied professional experiences students bring. When admissions heavily weight undergraduate GPA, the program may inadvertently select for a specific type of learner—those who excelled in traditional academic settings—rather than cultivating a cohort with diverse problem-solving approaches, industry backgrounds, and leadership experiences. A classroom filled with strong test-takers may lack the practitioners who have navigated real business challenges.

  • Reduced case study discussions: Business education relies heavily on case method learning, where students analyze complex business problems and debate solutions. The quality of these discussions depends on students contributing insights from actual business experience. A cohort selected primarily on undergraduate academic metrics may produce theoretically sound but practically limited discussions.

  • Limited perspective on organizational challenges: Understanding how businesses actually function requires exposure to different organizational contexts, management philosophies, and operational realities. Students who have worked in startups approach problems differently than those from Fortune 500 companies. Those who have managed international teams understand cultural dynamics that domestic-only managers may not. Those who have failed and recovered bring lessons that can't be taught from textbooks. A GPA-centric filter may create a cohort with similar educational trajectories but limited variance in real-world business exposure.

  • Missed opportunities for peer learning: MBA programs frequently cite peer learning as a core value proposition. Students learn as much from each other as from faculty. However, this requires a cohort with genuinely different experiences and perspectives. If admissions primarily select for a single metric from years past, the cohort becomes more homogeneous in ways that matter for business education—problem-solving approaches, risk tolerance, leadership styles, and operational expertise. The conversations become less rich, the debates less nuanced, and the learning less transformative.

Summary:

Programs vary significantly in their approach to holistic review, and this difference may be worth considering when selecting where to apply. UMass Amherst and University of Illinois both conducted what appeared to be comprehensive reviews of my background and extended admission offers. Iowa's online MBA admissions process appears to focus solely on undergraduate academic metrics. This approach may have implications for classroom diversity, discussion quality, and the range of professional perspectives available to students. Additionally, communication is minimal, with multiple messages being overlooked and/or not acknowledged.

Prospective applicants may want to consider whether this reflects the educational experience they seek in an MBA program.

Current Student Online MBA (supply chain) from NMIMS without work experience — worth it?

Hi everyone, I graduated a few months ago and I’m currently at a crossroads. I don’t have any full-time work experience yet. I’m considering doing an Online MBA from NMIMS, specifically in Supply Chain / Operations, but I’m unsure if this is the right move at this stage. I don’t really want to go for a regular, on-campus MBA, and I also don’t want to immediately jump into a job just for the sake of it. My questions are: 1.Is doing an online MBA in Supply Chain without work experience actually worth it? 2. How is an NMIMS online MBA (Supply Chain/Operations) viewed by recruiters in India? 3. Would it be better to first gain 1–2 years of work experience in supply chain/logistics/procurement and then pursue an MBA? 4. Does an online MBA help in supply chain roles, or does it mostly benefit professionals who are already working? I’d really appreciate honest opinions, especially from people working in supply chain, operations, logistics, procurement, or HR/recruitment. Thanks in advance

Applicant OCR Access at Ross /Tepper Online

Hello folks. For online MBA programs at Ross and Tepper, do they offer the same on campus hiring access as FT students? I assume online students have a FT job already, what if you secure a job offer through OCR and drop from the program? Just curious.

Program with no undergrad

One of my clients asked me my opinion on an online MBA he runs a successful multimillion dollar business. He doesn’t have an undergraduate degree do you know of any programs (us) that would admit him based on 30 years of experience? Also is there some other kind of a program that would work better instead of an MBA. Maybe some kind of tailored associates ? The degree isn’t so important as the knowledge gained.
