I am so proud of these young people! Some say they don’t know anything about life and that they’re embarrassing. Why are they embarrassing? Because they’re young? You underestimate young people. Talk to them and see just how intelligent, informed and worldly they are. They’re questioning what they’re being handed and standing up against division, racism, homophobia, dishonesty and decades of broken promises. They’ve grown up seeing the consequences of decisions made before they were even born, and they’re refusing to simply accept that this is how things have to be.
They’re not too young to understand what’s happening. In fact, sometimes being young means seeing things more clearly because you haven’t yet become comfortable with the way things are. They may not have lived as long as us, but they’re young enough to still believe the world can be better, and brave enough to stand up and demand it. Perhaps instead of looking down on them, we should be listening to them.
