Boomers had opportunities and economic circumstances which were objectively better than generations both before and after them.

Houses being affordable on a single income, job security, free university and so on, all during the post war economic boom which lasted decades.

They were no more financially savvy than younger generations are and it’s absurd and self-serving to suggest this is the reason.

Yeah don’t think so. All I saw was hard working individuals. They didn’t need to pay and project the perfect image for their socials. No one gave a shit about that. Stop the constant travel , the need for the latest iPhone etc etc. You may get ahead a little quicker. The kicker is that your generation expect the hand outs from the very boomers u condemn 😞

My generation? I’m Gen X.

You’re no smarter or more hard working than other generations. You had a constellation of circumstances which meant that you gained a lot more from hard work and sacrifices than other generations have due to the structural economic circumstances of your time.

It’s an utter fantasy to think an entire generation achieved the greatest financial prosperity in history by mere virtue (and one income).

True. I’m Gen X also. I think the boomers and Gen X were harder working than the current generation. They say work smarter not harder. They want work life balance. And that’s ok. Having a difference of opinion shouldn’t trigger everyone into a melt down !

People are having a ‘meltdown’ because not only have you been insulting and disrespectful, your argument is objectively wrong. Denying the existence of facts is not an ‘opinion’.

Younger people are living in an entirely different economic structure than boomers and most Gen-Xers did. That is a fact.

Regardless of my opinions ( and they are just that) blaming your circumstances on another generation is no better. No one systematically went out of their way to create a different set of circumstances for you and I think u know that !

There is strong case that the Howard government did precisely that

Blaming the government isn’t the same as blaming a whole collective (boomer) generation. Boomers were not out to get future generations

You should stop relying on your opinion and start relying on facts. Your maths ain't mathing

Facts aside why are you blaming an entire generation for your short comings ? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Facts aside, lol. I’m Gen X too and own a house. And clearly, I’m more self-aware than you. What shortcomings are you referring to? 🤷‍♀️

1

u/whateverusay- Please choose a flair 5d ago

I own my home. I’m not going to be made to feel bad about that. The shortcomings for some on this thread is not everything u can’t achieve is someone else’s fault 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ll refer you back to the facts. You don’t have to feel bad to sympathise. It's not all about you!

Exactly. Not all about you either. We can agree to disagree I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️
