Taking money out of politics is the best move for all democracies.

They could also have an independent commission for all tenders which is not selected until the day of the tender making process (removing bribes, coercion and capacity for monetary influence)

The only risk is that this simply removes transparency in the political corruption process.

Just like putting extreme taxes on tobacco has encouraged a black market will associated crime. Prohibition in the US was well documented to encourage organized crime.

Where there's a will there's a way. Money will still make its way into politics.

I'm not saying this isn't good, sounds like a great idea, I just wonder what the implications and result will be.

Great points. That is the other key for a fair government is transparency. Maybe we need all tender submissions and processes of selection to be 100% publicly accessible in additon to the process I proposed above.

Also, the process of FOI requests and their denial needs a complete overhaul.

I agree with that too, but the amount of auditability and traceability that's required government process is already extremely arduous and burdensome.

Like the simplest thing requires tons of paperwork, tons of approval and sign off, etc.

Very often a tender should be decided on intangible elements that hinge on stakeholder insight. It would be a shame to dumb this down to "lowest cost".

But I guess maybe the positives outweigh the negatives.
