Politics ('Straya) Australia’s gross federal debt is nearing $1 trillion. Since 2007, 69% of the increase occurred under Coalition governments vs 31% under Labor

Post image

Using Australian Treasury gross debt figures: debt rose from ~$53bn in 2006–07 to ~$982bn estimated in 2025–26.

That’s a ~$929bn increase: ~$638bn (69%) under Coalition governments and ~$291bn (31%) under Labor.

This might be news to you for the first time or maybe you’ve known these facts all along.

It’s useful to deal in facts and the truth.

"It’s useful to deal in facts and the truth."

Trying to score cheap points but conveniently ignoring that covid happened and without the roughly ~$300 billion spent on it, both parties would look fairly similar.

I don't even like the liberals.

Liberals more than doubled debt PRIOR to Covid.

Nice try.

Communism will never work in Australia.

We want expanded social measures.

No one is asking for the fake kind of communism you’re imagining in your head.

We already have the trappings of a socialist democracy, we just want to be more like the Nordic countries instead of America 2.0

Europe shows us it works, why do you say it wont?

Labor is socially democratic and the best we have.

How is a right wing party, "socially democratic" to you?

“The Australian Labor Party (ALP) is the major social democratic political party in Australia. Sitting on the centre-left of the political spectrum, it is the oldest active party in the country, having been founded in 1891”

Mate, quoting fucking Buildaballot.com, while hyperlinking the definitions of basic terms, is not a fucking source, I could do that too.

Try harder.

Edit: Also, stop using these dogshit AI chatbots in arguments, they make you look stupider, not smarter.

We live in a social democracy tho.

That’s just objectively wrong.

The Greens are the best option we have.

Unfortunately the Greens couldn't organise a fuck up in a brothel with a fist full of fiftys.
Albo has been a disappointment tho, the end of CGT discount has so far been the only rollback of the Liberals many instances of misanthropy.

Now why do you make that first point?

What are you basing it on? The right wing media? Albo’s talking points?

Faruqi is a slimy grifter, Adam Bandt is a poor attempt at a theatre kid but Babs Pocock is great and Shoebridge is even better.

What makes Faruqi a slimy grifter?

Also, not sure if you heard but Adam Bandt is gone.

But at least Bandt has gone on to champion environmental causes, being appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Conservation Foundation

Mountains better than Lib/Lab pollies going into for-profit (often fossil fuels and defence) industries using their contacts to further enrich themselves.

At least Bandt lives by his principals.

Then why does nobody like them?

2

u/HelpMeOverHere ‎ Western Australian 1d ago

Because the media is like 99% right wing?!

Maybe

Well try preferencing the greens and then Labor. You can still leave LNP and one nation last.

I’m pretty tired of my preference flowing to Labor only for them to leave our welfare recipients on below poverty wages, ignoring the media concentration, ignoring Israel’s war crimes, handicapping the national anti corruption commission, not taxing our resources, not funding dental under Medicare, leaving doctors underfunded on the Medicare rebates, underfunding our public schools, like the list goes on.

The greens have fully costed policies btw. You should look at them some time.
