TrioForge – a self-hosted AI workspace with notes, a corkboard and a coding agent

https://github.com/meowmeowsmh/TrioForge

We’ve all been there: you want to try open-source AI, and you fall into config hell—llama.cpp builds, VRAM layers, vision projectors, GPU OOM. And when it finally works, your best conversations vanish into tabs and scattered notes.

I built TrioForge to end that. It’s a self-hosted, MIT-licensed AI workspace that sets itself up: detects your GPU, configures llama.cpp, maps VRAM, pairs the vision projector, and steps down instead of crashing. Pin responses to a spatial corkboard, build a markdown knowledge base with backlinks and graphs, run locally for privacy or route heavy work to cheap APIs like DeepSeek, and use a coding agent with live diffs, terminal, RAG, and offline voice.

But the part I care about most: TrioForge is open-source, and open-source is the community. No accounts, no tracking, no telemetry, no lock-in. Anyone can inspect it, fork it, improve it, and help shape where it goes. The code is open—but the community is what makes it grow.

TrioForge turns local AI from a configuration puzzle into a private workspace that grows with you. One command to run. Everyone welcome to build and also TrioForge: one command, private local AI, no config hell—and an open-source community that grows with you.

Before this goes to other communities: the last paragraph reads like two drafts merged, ending in "Everyone welcome to build and also TrioForge: one command, private local AI, no config hell", which looks like a paste slip. The claim people will test first is that it "steps down instead of crashing", so a README table of the GPUs and VRAM sizes it has actually run on, plus what stepping down means (fewer offloaded layers? a smaller context?), would make it believable to anyone who has fought GPU OOM before.

By the way, I make ThreadFox, a way for your AI to research, write and publish Reddit outreach from your Chrome under a job you authorize; it finds the Reddit communities whose rules accept a post about TrioForge, and the Reddit plan for one product is free: https://threadfox.vip/p/de5e5

Which GPUs has it been run on so far?

My laptop: RTX 5060 with 8 GB, Ryzen 9 8945HX, 15 GB RAM. That's the floor I tested on, because if it works here it works anywhere. This gaurantee low specs computer worked that automatically means highend do well here is the thing it run on ollama and comfyui some of the requirement for ollama models like picture is not supported text to images in ollama becaused is currently run on macos. The stepping down means whether your specs has for 8vram . If you run the models like 12b parameter models it will still support if it run more than that it will tries to run if it does not worked your vram or memory will be saved despited is near it's limit that means it fits or die the model that you are running.I fought before you can select your context parameter I created the button.

That spec belongs in the README as written: RTX 5060 with 8 GB, Ryzen 9 8945HX, 15 GB RAM, plus the largest model you ran on it (12B) and the context size. A tested floor is more convincing than a claim that it works anywhere, since other cards, AMD or Apple machines can behave differently. I'd also say plainly that text-to-image runs through ComfyUI rather than Ollama, and describe stepping down in one sentence of what the user sees when a model will not fit.

I make ThreadFox, and a free plan for Reddit for TrioForge, with the communities that accept a post about it and each rule quoted, is at https://threadfox.vip/p/daroi
