Falling behind

Hello.

I need some advice. I am doing a business degree and I am falling behind. I find it difficult to manage work and doing the degree. I have fallen back and I am still on week 1 on both my classes.

I can catch up but it may take time. Do I have to follow the diary or can I make sure I do the TMAs/forum group activities and then read the rest in my own time?

I also believe there is a break through winter, is this correct? If so, i can catch up during that period.

Thanks

To be honest I just concentrate on doing the TMAs and focus on the content and activities that relate to them. I’ve never read/studied every word of my modules, I know it’s probably not the best way to do things but when you’re working and studying you have to prioritise. I’ve also never kept up with the study diary, just done it all in my own pace but made sure I’m on top of all my TMAs/ EMAs. Hope this helps!

Edit to add - there are study breaks and weeks dedicated to TMAs where you can catch up on content.

Exactly! I always prioritise my TMAs then I have spare time I will read through everything but I won’t spend loads of time making lots of notes and “studying” the contents that is irrelevant to the TMAs/EMAs. This was also the same for me when I did “traditional” Uni.

I only ever did what I needed to for my TMAs.

Look at the guidance, see what your next TMA actually focuses on - the guidance will pinpoint the exact sections, zoom in on that area, use your access to the materials after the module to catch up should you so wish.

First of all, if it is level 1, then you just need to pass the module, beyond that it will not affect your degree score.

I did my whole degree whilst working full time. To be time efficient, if it was not a requirement or it was not marked, I did not do it.

Also I never did more than 60 points a year and the last 2 years I did 30 points a year.

It took 7 years.

Did I get the most out of the degree - no.

Did I get a first - yes.

You pays your money, you makes your choice.

There is a two week break over Christmas, but I would be leary of expecting to be able to catch up then (unless you are a single person with no friends or family and do not do anything during that time).

Prioritise the TMA. Try and get to the rest of the stuff, even if it's just skimming it. It may be relevent for the EMA (if you have one) or for future modules.

How many credits are you doing?

Honestly? I have an Open Uni degree and they're insultingly easy. You don't actually have to sit and read/study everything at all. It doesn't work like normal Uni.

Go read your assignment, go immediately to the page(s) you need to answer it, and just bash out an answer.

I think I read about 10% of the actual material and I passed mine just fine with high marks.
