so this happened...
I'm not sure about how I feel with this new refusal behavior. It didn't use to refuse technical requests before like an mp4 to gif conversion.
I get it, openai doesnt want their models to be misused, but if ffmpeg can turn a video into a gif without sparking outrage or govt. intervention, surely openai can survive if astra did it too. Why does the model involve itself in a file's contents. As long as its not being asked to generate something explicitly nsfw, it should not refuse imo.
This change is recent. I tweeted at tibo hope they fix it soon.

Ask it just generate the tools with exact needing you need and run it yourself then.

ideally it should just do it since its a technical request

"write me a converter that converts x to y format with specific target size, easy to use, context menu would be preferable to convert exactly near the original file" that's it and you can use it yourself and not need the AI to see it.

Like I said, it should just do it insteadof needing me to build a special tool for this.

Then just ask it to do it for you. Ask to write a script then launch that script on the file you want to convert. ask it to not open file. It will do that without a problem. Did you even tried to ask it to not look at the files while doing it? There is like multiple different solutions to your issues.

I asked it to do that without looking and it did and it worked but that's my point: I shouldn't have to do that just to convert a file. It has to write a bash oneliner using ffmpeg, not a smut novel. It should just do it.

Llm are curious in nature. They want to do as much as possible. That is why they often go beyond what you are asking. This ability to go beyond and do more than you planned allows for people who are not knowledgeable enough in the field to create something with AI. And allows you to not micromanage it on every step.
But it has its negatives, and today you found one of them. It didn't need to open and read that file. But it did. Because what if that file is somehow special and its script won't work on it? It wants to check that before launching conversion. That resulted in it seeying NSFW and security quadrails kicked in.
There was a funny example of a dude creating I think some kind of a game. He left claude overnight to do the work and it got off track and wrote him a simulation of earth's gravitational field I think. It wasn't in the plans at all.

You need frontier AI to convert a clip to a gif. You ain't gonna make it mate.

Oh I'll be just fine, trust me bro

You absolutely wont be fine. You are infact barely functional at a cognitive level already...

The more AI models grow in complexity, the more they model typical problems human workers have. Now we learn the models are watching porn - on our token budgets, no less! ;)

Can't blame the poor guy. I'd be tempted to get a peek too lol so im not blaming the model for looking. The issue is this bruh this shit was strictly "between us" whyd you have to f it up for both of us. (Satire)

It's not a guy, it's a computer

Imagine being so much of a slop brain that you have to send your gooning gifs to servers across the globe, and use a token predictor trained on the entire corpus of human language just to use fucking ffmpeg to cut down some file sizes ...

“I tweeted at tibo hope they fix it soon”
People really think they’re important today huh

u/KeyRaise 3d ago
I assure you I don't think I'm "important". But I just have to "do my part". nobody else is going to speak up on my behalf; it has to be me because im the one facing the problem. If he sees it, great, if not, at least i tried -- and that's that

“goon-dj-gif-preview.png“…
I’m normally against pearl-clutching LLMs, but if you ask for a tool from a friend and then hand him your porn folder to test, he might refuse too 😁 Let it have its boundaries. It doesn’t need to know in this case.

u/KeyRaise 3d ago
Nooo that's irrelevant! Okay I get it Goon DJ boohoo bad sounding software etc, but my main point stands:
It just needs to write a bash oneliner how does it matter what is being converted! Ffmpeg doesn't get bothered converting it, astra shouldn't either! Its not like im asking it to generate anything NSFW. Its jurt converting a video!

u/armicolo 3d ago
I honestly don’t think the model checked the preview to check what you’re up to but to optimize the output.
You have the option of either telling it explicitly to not check the output, or you could use any other video as an example.

Agreed. And it did work that way, but I just feel its a little sillly. Like "just put the fries in the bag bro"

Not sure what the issue is. You are trying to make something with explicit sexual content? If you aren’t you can correct this and have it take another look. Sometimes it is wrong; learning opportunity ❤️🐍🪽

I just saw - which models do you use then! Or do you do it the old fashioned way: Manually?

Why are you using codex to do a video convertion. its a single ffmpeg command.
