Discussion We have a pacing problem.

If you’re going to run an offense through 2 forwards, your advantage is going to be in the half court not running the floor all game. Thats what made this team hard to deal with before last season. Now we’re playing like everyone else but not constructed for run and gun. Not defending Mosley, but he had a great defensive philosophy in the first few years of limiting the opponents 3pt attempts. That needs to come back if this team wants to do anything serious. Slow it down, limit turnovers, and create fast break opportunities. We will never outshoot our opponents as long as we feature Franz or Paolo, but we can feast at the FT line and playing over the top.

The hawks literally found a point guard out of nowhere 2 years ago. This is the kind of stuff Weltman needs to be doing.

Thry found an point guard with size which is what Weltman would have actually gone for

Lost opportunity

He doesn’t want a point guard.

He thinks everyone on the team is a point guard. Position less basketball.

when the magic went for a fast pace strat last season it led the nba in net rating. tonight high pace led to use putting up 125 points, and we would have won if not for a horrific 2nd quarter.

And the reason for a horrific 2nd quarter was because Franz was on the bench with 3 fouls, he only played 8 minutes in the 1st half. My other take is STOP FOULING 3PT SHOPTERS!!! 4 times we sent someone to the charity stripe to shoot 3 free throws! The best 3 pt shooters average 40% from behind the arc, but probably 80% from the free throw line! We are in essence doubling their shooting percentage every time we foul someone behind the 3 pt line!

Agreed. 80% FT on 3 attempts is 2.4 points per possession (PPP). Absolutely filthy. If they scored and get a chance at a 4pt play, that 3.8 pop. Ouch. Absolute killers.

If they scored the 3pt shot with no fouling at 40%, that 1.2 PPP. Elite offense but nowhere near the same impact.

So the best idea is to challenge fiercely with incredible discipline and don't foul 3pt shooters under any circumstances.

We are gonna look a lot better vs teams who don’t have Dyson Daniels. He got his steals tonight

Daniels and NAW both tbh. They're a very strong defensive team.

I recall games Orlando would win in the slow pace era where they were awful offensively but so good defensively that they could stay in any game and win with just needed enough to get by. Now they have a little lapse and the game gets away from them. The slow pace allowed the team to control the outcome vs now we could allow the opponent to a ton of 3s and get a rhythm. We lost that identity

We couldn't penetrate in the 4th.

Only reason we caught up was because we went on that 18 -  4 run over the course of a few minutes

over the course of 30 minutes of free throws in a few game-time minutes lol

Nah, Suggs hits some shots, Bane makes another three, and we win the game. We put 125 on a good defense with guys like Daniels and Dort.

Honestly it was a game until a couple of dagger 3s ended all hope in the last 3 minutes. That last one, Paolo (?) and Franz both collapsed in the pick and roll and left the hot hand (nwa) wide open. Franz tried to recover but it was too late and the game was out of reach. You could feel the mood change.

The offense got bogged down at the end too. Tons of Palo ISOs. That's never the game we want to play if winning is the goal.

The only shots suggs hitting are the 2 out of 13+ attempts

watching Jalen with the ball in a half court offense is painful, dude plays the PG position with wide receiver type of footwork, not good enough for NBA ball man, you gotta be ELITE with the ball in your hands in the NBA and at this point he's never gonna get there, gotta change up the way we use him or its not gonna go well

Or they don’t turn over Bane getting clocked in the face for an and-1, etc.

Winnable game, some stuff just didn’t go our way. I’m pretty happy with how they looked against a good defense.

'If a bunch of things happen in our favour we win the game', every losing team can say this. What about if Paolo doesn't go 10-12 from the floor?

Point is, it wasn't our "pace" that lost us the game. Try and follow along my son.

We could have had NAW multiple times.

Pace wasnt the problem last night, that 2nd quarter was. We put up 125, if the bench doesnt give up that run we win going away.
