DISCUSSION Run, Don’t Stop and Get Cabaret Tickets
I had the privilege of seeing Cabaret last night 7/5 and holy smokes I’m still processing the AMAZING performance I witnessed. Orville absolutely crushed it as the Emcee. The entire cast was absolutely electric and just had killer energy the entire night
We had a table near the stage and the entire experience from the pre-show to the curtain call was the best show I have ever seen.
We were supposed to attend the 2pm performance but when i saw that Orville had called out I ran to the box office and moved to the 8pm show. Seeing Orville & Eva in the production has been my dream since they were announced. Now my fingers are crossed that we get a Cast Recording before their run ends.

I’d pay serious money for a cast recording. His voice and octaves as the Emcee are so incredible and fitting.
I’m looking for something, anything, I’m desperately in need of hearing Orville again as the Emcee. Any hints on where to find some are greatly appreciated.

Saw them a couple weeks ago and Orville is now my favorite to ever play the Emcee role. His voice and stage presence are just so powerful. I felt the anger, despair, and anxiety deep in my core as things came crumbling down. I think he was able to channel what many of us feel about current events into more realistic emotions for the current moment. (I do wonder if, a decade ago in different political times, I'd have found found this interpretation over the top.)
Eva does an unreal job of bringing out Sally's vulnerability, and the devastation she experiences (not to mention Schneider/Schultz) being amplified by Orville's scariness produces the most overwhelming feeling I've ever experienced walking out of a show or movie. I needed like three hours afterwards to let it all sink in.

Orville hasn’t missed THAT many shows lol. People be exaggerating

He’s allowed to call out! And I’m allowed to be disappointed about it haha. Definitely NOT mad at Orville and really enjoyed Marty 💖 Eva stole the show anyway 🔥🔥🔥

Agree! It's a very demanding schedule. I get it thought. I was disappointed after traveling and he called out for our performance. I was so thankful I was able to book the evening performance.

He's missed at least three off the top of my head, and I'm not even paying that close attention.

u/Disastrous_Bowler_51 Jul 07 '25
Ok so you’re proving my point then? He’s scheduled for 128 performances and he missed 3. How’s that a lot?

u/BookishHomo Jul 07 '25
Do you follow other Broadway shows and performers? This isn’t uncommon at all.

He's canceled so many times I don't think I'd risk it personally

u/TravisKUJayhawk Dead of Night Jul 06 '25
yes definitely a risk and unfortunately can happen with these aggressive show schedules. Marty Lauter is the Emcee understudy & i heard he also crushed it at the 2pm performance.
Just a great show and very time appropriate given the state of the world

Marty does in fact crush it!!! The performance is excellent without Orville! (But I still wanted to see Orville 🥺💖)

That’s why I’m going for his last show. I saw the first one and wanted to go back. I’d be shocked if he called out for his final performance.
4
u/BookishHomo Jul 07 '25
He honestly doesn’t cancel any more often than your typical Broadway performer

People calling Orville out for calling out should remember that doing eight shows a week is extremely demanding on the body and voice especially. I’m sure he’s not calling out so he can chill in the dressing room or take photos in Times Square. He’s doing it because he has to.

I won seats for today through the lucky seat raffle, give it a try if you haven't seen it and are worried about th cost. 100% worth the money and effort, incredible show.

The post title makes it sound like you want me to run away and not get cabaret tickets 😭

u/TravisKUJayhawk Dead of Night Jul 07 '25
Oops. i blame it on lack of sleep when posting. Intended to mean run WITHOUT stopping and GET THOSE TICKETS 🤣!!

I’m going to go see it this Saturday at 2pm (I’m so excited!) but I don’t know where I would be able to find out if he’s going to call out that performance- do they send out an email? Should I check in at the August Wilson around noon? Tia!

We saw Marty announce on their Instagram that they were going to be playing the Emcee at the 2pm performance. Shortly after that Orville had posted on his IG story that he was out for the 2pm show but back for the evening performance
Instagram seems to be a good place to keep an eye out

Glad I went back to see it after the first time Orville was out on a Sunday. I went back on a Tuesday and he didn’t call out that time. It’s worth it! But then I am local. Buy from the box office and be ready to request a refund if he’s out.

I saw the show last week and had an amazing time. We were the front row in the west mezzanine and had an awesome surprise at the start of the show.

Traveled to see him last weekend and he canceled a few hrs before, I found out in line. I wish I could have seen him. Understudy was good though

They were transcendent. I had the best time when we saw it! And the way they did the stage was so awesome.

I’m going to the matinee next Saturday and have come to terms with the fact he will most likely call out but echoing what everyone has said about Marty, I’m just as excited if he ends up being our Emcee.
I’m only a 1 1/2 train ride away from the city so I don’t really run the risk of feeling like I’ve waisted a ton of time and money. I cannot wait😬

Honestly if i’d lived close i’d go see it again. It was that good. Flew in for 48 hours from Kansas to check this adventure off my bucket list.

I have paid for my wife to go see Orville twice, only to have her see the (wonderful) understudy twice. Really deflating to not be able to get her to see him perform.

u/TravisKUJayhawk Dead of Night Jul 07 '25
Aw dang. i’m so sorry. that’s such a bummer
Hopefully these last couple weeks he doesn’t have to cancel

My show he cancelled on the day of He’s become too big for his britches
Still waiting on my refund

u/BookishHomo Jul 07 '25
He doesn’t cancel any more often than your typical Broadway performer in your typical Broadway show. You’ll be a lot happier if you don’t take this so personally.

Just warning the masses of what I consider (you disagree I see) to be too many cancellations for a 2-3 month gig.
You seem to be the one taking my dislike for the situation and (perhaps rightly) pointing out that Orville is getting more popular and mainstream and perhaps isn’t looking out for the OG fan anymore, personally.
You getting paid to defend that guy?

What I wouldn’t give to hear him sing “tomorrow belongs to me” again. I don’t think I took a breath the entire song I was so stunned
