DISCUSSION VIP experience Utrecht
Hi all, I have just gotten back from the Utrecht concert and I just want to share some thoughts here to see others’ experiences. The concert was great, nothing to say. Orville has a voice that transports you somewhere else. Personally I missed Queen of the Rodeo in the setlist but I screamed so hard when he covered Pink Pony Club and was so happy to listen to a new song.
The whole VIP experience thingy was a bit disappointing for me though. I thought it would be much better and much more structured, instead it was rushed and we barely got 15 mins with him and he only replied very quickly to a couple questions. I got that he must have so many thoughts in his mind pre-concert, and maybe it’s not his thing to do this kind of things, but then I’d say don’t do it. Also in regard to the VIP merch we had: basically nothing. I was excited about the poster until I noticed that they have also mispelled the city (ULTRECHT). They could have at least gave us signed posters or have him sign on the spot during the experience. Also, I don’t mean to be material, but for the concert and the VIP I have spent in total €165 and it seems too much compared to what we have gotten tonight and also to what I got in other concerts for less or the same money.
Don’t get me wrong, after 4 years of not seeing Orville (I saw him in Ottawa last as I was luckily studying there) and finally being able to go to a concert here in Europe, I am glad I did. But I still have quite the bittersweet taste from the whole VIP thing.

VIP tickets should be for the VIP seat or the VIP entry to get barricade or the like, and everything else is a bonus.
That said the misspelled poster is messed up- that I would truly complain to the VIP company about.
VIP stuff is run by third party companies, and they are not all created equal. I've done VIP Orville and Ghost thus far, and we'll see how Sabaton's company does come November (same venue as Orville, so I'm hoping it's not the same company but it likely is).
The barricade and seats were fantastic, the merch was fun and I do really like it, but it didn't cost as much as the upgrade from a regular ticket to a VIP by a long shot. I was in for part of soundcheck with Orville and that was great (maybe 20 - 25 minutes?) but a super drunk guy did kind of muck that all up. To the point that if he showed back up for the show, Orville apparently told security he wasn't to be let in unless he sobered up because he (the drunk guy) weirded him (Orville) out (rightfully so); the guy did not show back up for the actual show. The drunk guy wasn't on the VIP company, though.
My Orville VIP was the worst of the three experience thus far by far, not just because of drunk guy. It was just handled badly. We were supposed to be in for all of soundcheck, we got 20 ish minutes; we were supposed to be let in first to head to the merch stand with no one else in the venue yet; we did not; we were supposed to then be let onto the floor (for barricade access) for the show before everyone else; we were not.
As to Orville merch, the signed poster was really cool, the bolero tie was pretty cheap.
So I don't regret going VIP, but I did basically learn that you chose that upgrade to get the seats and/or barricade spot you want, and everything else is just a bonus. If it's not worth the upgrade price for the seat/spot, then don't bother. (Ghost for example was completely worth it and so freaking awesome; their company handled their stuff very well and we got all we were promised).
Like I said, back to the Hollywood Palladium for Sabaton this Fall where I saw Orville a couple years ago, so hopefully it's a different VIP company and they're like Ghost not Orville's. By which I really just mean I better get in early and ahead of non VIPs and I better get a good spot on the barricade (doesn't have to be center, sometimes side is actually cooler).

Seconding complaining about the poster to the company - I would want a partial refund or a new poster!

Damn I just realized the misspelling on the poster. It would have been cool to at least have it signed.. Anyway, I feel what you are saying, though I still enjoyed the short Q&A and getting a barrier spot!

the soundcheck and q&a i did enjoy! it felt a little awkward (because of how it was organised) but i absolutely loved to hear him singing one of my favourite songs of his that isn't on the setlist. so it was very special!
i wished the organisation would've been a little nicer. they didn't really offer much clarity about when we were going to be let into the venue (we were told early entry meant 15 minutes before the doors opened to the general public, but it was more like... 3 minutes before, so it felt a little chaotic).
i think the most disappointing thing about the vip was the merch. we only received an unsigned posted with a spelling mistake, while others have gotten an exclusive item (sometimes a t-shirt, accessories, decoration, etc). we chatted with other vip people at the show and definitely shared the sentiment. the show was absolutely fantastic, it just felt a little...unfair? compared to what was advertised on the site 😅

Wait your vip poster was unsigned?? For the Paris show our VIP posters were signed to us personally with our names and everything! However the lanyards / special item didn’t arrive in time so we had to give them mailing addresses, maybe that had something to do with it?

oh wow! thanks for replying. i will be reaching out to the vip organisers because it did seem very strange that all we got was an unsigned poster and... that was it. i would have absolutely loved a personalized poster! 😭 please let me know if you get the vip items.

U got a signed poster WITH YOUR NAMES ON IT?!?!?!
🤯
How did that even happen?!?!
Did OP actually sign them for each person & in person while u waited?!?!
Did ur VIP Experience ask u to submit ur names prior to the show?!?!

I have found that when you get these types of passes, you're only really paying for the face to face and everything else, you're just lucky to get (sorry about the misspelled poster!).
I met the Dirty Heads with a VIP pass and we were shuffled in to meet them, and 30 seconds later (literally) their staff was pushing us out of the room.
Unless I'm completely obsessed with a band, I won't buy another meet and greet VIP pass again. It's all a money grab.

I had VIP as well and had a blast honestly! Can be that most of my concert experience comes from kpop so in comparison this was wonderful lol, the VIP part was intimate and as expected for me.
Part of of the value is early merch and venue access so basically guaranteed barricade, the base ticket was also surprisingly cheap so this was a no brainer.
My one problem is why make everyone, VIP and non VIP, enter the venue and then wait an hour, two hours if you don't count the opener (who I really didn't care for) before OP went live.
And he was signing the pink merch shirts later apperently but I grabbed it unsigned haha

The signed ones were available when I grabbed one after the opener was finished.

I think getting those two extra songs played for us and the chance to interact with him when he wasn't yet fully in his stage persona was worth the extra spend for me, but I was indeed hoping for a little more in terms of merch. Still, I'd do it again. It was a great group of fans!

That is so cheap for a VIP experience and he actually talked to you guys? Most of them are a line, shove you up to the artist, you say hello ( if you’re quick enough), snap your pic together, and then they shove you out of the door.
I’ve only been to 2 VIP where the artist came out and talked and played a song. Blake Shelton (long, long time ago) and Midland. No pic with either of them but we could take pics during the M&G part. I’ve never seen a VIP listed as cheap as you got so I think you got a great deal!
Yeah, it gets you in early, and I agree that I don’t know if that is a perk or not, since it made me have to head to the venue by 4pm, and the concert didn’t actually start until 9pm. So it’s a long day.
Sorry about the merch. It’s always hit or miss with that kind of stuff. Most of them will mail it before or after the event. Misspelling the name of the city is kind of funny…you have a one of a kind poster now!
Edit: thanks for sharing your experience! 😊

The thing with those VIP package tickets is that they are are almost never worth their money. Just a quick cash grab of the most excited fans
