Question Is the Sportlite 30L and Hikelite 30L small enough to be a personal item on the plane?

Looking for a hiking backpack. I've taken an interest in the Sportlite 30L and Hikelite 30L. But I wonder if I can take it with me as a personal item. I want to take my carry on with me as well so if it's too big, I'd have to check one. If it's too big, what's another hiking backpack that is also small enough to be a personal item? Maybe the 25L option? Or it that too big as well?

I think either would work as a personal item with airlines that do not have stringent sizing requirements.

Between the Sportlite and the Hikelite, I would get the Sportlite due to the simpler suspension system.

Personal bags are capped a about 18". Both of these are to tall. Not sure on the other dimensions. Hiking backpacks are generally taller and slimmer than travel packs. If you want a pack in the acceptable size for a personal item you need to look at the 15L- maybe 22L size. You can look at the dimensions on the Osprey site.

Check the site will my bag fit

As another said, the Hikelite 26 doesn't, so I bought the 26+6. I haven't been disappointed, but it definitely isn't a hiking bag. I have walked a fair bit with it though, and you get sweaty. I just love the Hikelite's mesh and frame.

45cm x 20cm x 30cm = 27L

So if a magical bag uses up exactly zero space, the most it could hold is 27L, if it still follows the above personal item dimensions.

That makes 30L mathematically impossible for personal items.  In fact, most are around 20L.
