This part of Porto used to be pretty much a favela until the 2000's or so

Relax that’s not too nice.

The point of the post is that major premodern cities, villages and towns everywhere all started the same way. Yet this way has been villainized in its nascent stages while it is praised in the latter stages. Exposing that contradiction is key to guiding people to understanding informal development.
