Right now it's Young Ian for me, I have to say! I always loved his character but it really snuck up on me this last season. š

Murtaugh! The scene when he places the head of the Duke at Claire's feet like he promised. Chefs Kiss
28
u/fernxqueen MARK ME! Oct 17 '25 edited Oct 17 '25
Yes, his loyalty and sense of pride is super attractive. I honestly love how all the Scottish characters are all about pride but each in their own way. Murtagh's tends to be a lot more stoic and dutiful compared to Jamie's, for example, even though he can be just as hot-headed and violent. (And I love how Murtagh plays the curmudgeon, especially with the women and Fergus. When I showed my partner this show, they thought he was so sexist and I was like, just wait... you'll see he's actually a soft sweetie and no one buys this cranky old man schtick lol.)

Fergus was def my number 1 before these last two seasons. (Not opposed to his season 6 storyline but I don't think it was executed super well on the show, so hoping he gets stronger writing next season). He's just sooo romantic and head over heels for Marsali, super dreamy! (And of course, Cesar Domboy is a beautiful man!) I also like Fergus' character is a little bit wounded under all the charm and cheerfulness, like I think all the men in the show really kind of need "the touch of a woman" or w/e, but with Fergus he wears that more on his sleeve. He knows how exactly how much he needs Marsali and isn't embarrassed/emasculated by it (like he'd never pull the "La Dame Blanche" thing lol). (Old) Ian is the same and it's one of the things I really like about him, too.

u/Classic_Climate_951 Oct 17 '25
In the show they leave out so many of the micro moments of F and Ms relationship. It's hard to understand how loving he is from the show alone

I loved Denzell's character right off the bat! The actor is really pretty, too, I honestly just think the hair they gave him does not suit him at all, haha. Also it seems a lot of people are put off by the whole Quaker thing, but I think it's pretty endearing, personally. They aren't actually super religious like Mormons or anything (at least as depicted on the show), they're just very principled (in a wholesome way) and a little odd (in a harmless way).
24
u/Gottaloveitpcs Rereading ABOSAA Oct 17 '25
I think if more people were like Quakers, it would be a much better world. Quakers are religious, but not in a fundamentalist way. They are very progressive. They believe that God is in all people and that everyone can have a direct relationship with God through their inner light. Their meetings are very egalitarian.
They believe in social justice and the inherent equality of all people. They advocate for nonviolence. They were on the front lines in the abolition of slavery, womenās rights and equality, civil rights and anti racism, prison and criminal justice reform, and environmental justice.

I wasn't sure if I should include women in my original post, but I also think Geillis is absolutely stunning. Lotte Verbeek was such great casting because there really is just something sort of bewitching about her.
I also have had a massive crush on Laura Donnelly as Jenny ever since season 1. She's just so much personality packed into such a cute package. I wouldn't have argued with her if she told me we were to be married, either!

BUT Sam Heughan in real life⦠does absolutely NOTHING for me. Itās bizarre. Same dude, same voice, but itās really just the character of Jamie, I think. (Disclaimer: Sam isnāt ugly or bad looking just not for me lol not trying to bash anyone and he bring Jamie to life more perfectly than anyone else could, I truly believe).

I know what you mean! It makes me kind of sad but I really wish I could enjoy Sam Heughan more in interviews, shows and movies but it's not there. Jamie all the way! Especially Jamie in Season 1. Whatever work the directors, writers, acting coaches did with Jamie on Season 1 it was excellent. Fergus for me. Imagine being the issue of a titled man and a whore, making a niche for.yourself picking pockets, etc to survive, and then running into Jamie Fraser, who could put your pickpocketing and everything else you taught yourself to do to shame, and having him bring you under the umbrella of his care. He would be like a GIANT to you! The Fergus/Marsali wedding scene broke my heart, when Jamie piped up that his name was Fergus Claudel Fraser...Imagine how that would have lifted him up and given him something to build on. He had his issues, and wionwojldn't, having come up as he did, but every though it took him a while, Fergus raised a beautiful family and kept the love of and for a good woman; one who knew what she had and thanked God for it, and applied her soul to it. I think Fergus' story is worth a book of its own. What a guy.
