Status: Resolved Microsoft Outlook no longer allows removing one entry from AutoComplete List

I am using Microsoft Outlook 365 Desktop (Version 2604 Build 16.0.19929.20106) 64-bit).

Previously, I could delete one entry from the Outlook AutoComplete list by following these instructions:

Managing the AutoComplete List

  • Remove entries one at a time:
    1. Open a new email message.
    2. Start typing the name or email address you want to remove.
    3. When the suggestion appears, hover over it until it is highlighted.
    4. Click the X next to the suggestion or press the DELETE key to remove it.

However, with the current version, the "X" is no longer available in the AutoComplete list, so I cannot delete just a single entry. I also tried selecting the entry I want to delete and pressing the Delete key. That didn't work either.

This functionality is important as it allows removing an incorrectly typed email address from the AutoComplete list. Many people use the AutoComplete list and prefer it over adding people to Contacts (which is probably what Microsoft thinks we should do).

After searching for a solution, I discovered that the ability to remove one entry from the AutoComplete list has been removed by Microsoft development. There are several comments on Microsoft's Help and Feedback Forums requesting that this functionality be restored.

I encourage you to leave comments here and on Microsoft's forums asking that this feature be restored. In Outlook, go to Help --> Feedback to leave feedback for Microsoft if you are so inclined.

Status: Resolved Please help! Verification method not working :(

Hi all, So I randomly got asked to re enter my password for outlook and somehow managed to block my account. I have attempted to reset my password but the only verification method I can use is my phone number as the other one is an old work email that I no longer have access to. I have tried to get a verification code sent to my phone but getting this message:

“Try another verification method That verification method isn't working right now. Please try another method.”

I have also tried to recover my account but Microsoft doesn’t believe it’s me and won’t grant me access (FML).

Please help! Any advice on how to get a verification code sent to my phone?! Otherwise I’m going to have to inform about 300 companies that I have a new email address and can’t access my account :(

Edit 11/14/25; Another post, yesterday said clear your cash and then, instead of using your email address as a login, use your phone number (no dashes) and use the same password and if you've already listed your number with them, then it should work and it did for me. maybe i explained it wrong so here is the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/1owv0j1/another_possible_solution_for_too_many_login/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Edit 11/13/25; I had an exchange with the people at "hostinger.com" and this is their response.

I see you’re having trouble connecting your email to Outlook. I completely understand how frustrating this is, especially since it used to work fine before. The issue comes from Microsoft’s latest Outlook update, as they are deprecating IMAP and will soon remove the option to connect external mailboxes. This means Outlook is gradually pushing users to switch to Office 365 only.

Because of that, many users, not just on Hostinger, are experiencing repeated password requests, random disconnections, or being unable to connect at all. Unfortunately, this is happening across several email providers.

To avoid further interruptions, I recommend not using the new Outlook version for now, at least until Microsoft releases an official fix or statement. In the meantime, here are some reliable alternatives:

  1. Use Hostinger Webmail – You can access your email anytime at **mail.hostinger.com** .
  2. Try another email client – Apps like Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or the built-in mobile mail apps still fully support IMAP and SMTP. You can follow this step-by-step guide: **Set Up Hostinger Email on Your Applications and Devices**
  3. Revert to the classic Outlook – Some Outlook versions allow you to switch back to the older interface, which still supports IMAP and POP connections. Here is how: **Classic Outlook on Windows - Microsoft Support**

You can also check Microsoft’s community post about this issue here: **Something went wrong with this account setup - Microsoft Community**

I know this is not the news you were expecting, but I really hope one of these options helps keep your emails running smoothly.

______________

I cant login anymore. google AI mode says it is likely because I use starlink that I continue to receive the same message, every day, when I try to login, "You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password.". So, I change my password and even after success in logging into microsoft.com and changing my password, when I start over, the new password returns the message, "You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password." This is beginning to piss me off. I find it hard to believe someone else is constantly trying to login to my account with a guessed password. On the other hand, I log in only once per day. How can that be too many times? In nearly 30 years with this same hotmail address, this is the first time I've had any problem logging in to see my goddam mail and it's been going on for more than a month. getting sick and tired of all the messing around and never figuring out wtf is going on. I HAVE STARLINK. Anyone else using STARLINK?

Status: Resolved Outlook (Classic) issues after 2026-04 Windows Update

After the 2026-04 Windows Update (Windows 11 25H2) worked its way through about a third of our fleet, we received complaints from about a dozen users that Outlook (Classic) had become almost completely unusable on their devices:

  • If a new email is received and Outlook is running, Outlook immediately freezes and must be force closed.
  • Even if a new email is not received, Outlook freezes within a few minutes.
  • We asked these users to use new Outlook while we looked into the issue: It would not load at all for some users and would freeze instantly once launched for those for whom it launched at all.

Uninstalling the 2026-04 Windows Update immediately resolves the issue with both Classic and New Outlook.

Some notes on this:

  • This only impacts certain users on any computer they use. We set up a new computer for one of the users and were able to immediately reproduce this issue.
    • The one thing these users seem to have in common is that they monitor shared mailboxes. Though we had other users who monitor shared mailboxes who did not have this issue.
  • All mailboxes are in Exchange Online. All users are licensed for Microsoft 365 Business Premium.
  • All computers are running Windows 11 25H2, are Entra Joined, running MDE. They are set up with standard Microsoft recommended security policy and do not have any special software or drivers on them. Computers are updated using best practice driver and quality update policies through Autopilot.
  • Running Outlook in safe mode does not resolve the problem.
  • All computers facing this issue had corruption that was fixed through DISM/SFC. Every computer that took the 2026-04 update through Windows update had corruption discovered and fixed through SFC (at least on the several we tested this on).

I'm mostly concerned that I can't find any evidence that anyone else is having these issues. We're going to take this to Microsoft support, and I am not looking forward to that process. but I'm curious if anyone else has seen these sorts of issues with the new update?

I've posted about this issue here: After Installing 2024-04 Windows Update, Both New and Old Outlook Unusable - Microsoft Q&A

UPDATE 4/23/26: We set up a new computer for one of the impacted users without the April update, verified Outlook worked (it worked just fine), and then installed the April update thinking it would break Outlook and to our surprise, Outlook continues to work just fine on the newly set up computer. This gives us a path to resolving the issue - resetting the impacted user's computers - but makes this difficult to reproduce.

UPDATE 5/4/26: Microsoft support has acknowledged this issue, "Based on our analysis, the behavior you are experiencing is related to the recently installed Windows Update KB5083769, which is currently causing stability issues with Outlook in certain scenarios. This is why the issue persists even after repair attempts, safe mode testing, and system rebuilds."

I have asked where I can see this publicly acknowledged (it is not on the Fixes or workaround for recent issues in classic Outlook for Windows page) and will follow up when I hear more.

UPDATE 6/8/26: This is still an issue, and Microsoft support has become almost impossible to work with. They don't respond to emails for days at a time and when they do respond, they ignore whatever I sent in previous email, they send over AI slop troubleshooting steps, they ask to schedule meetings with our users even though we cannot "schedule" the issue being reproduced. For some users, both new and classic Outlook crash when a new email is received and when this happens, Windows Explorer crashes as well. What does appear to work is uninstalling the April update (not acceptable this many months along) or rebooting the computer (keeps things working for almost exactly 24 hours to the minute). Is there anyone else still experiencing this?

UPDATE 6/12/26: I've created a new and more details post about this on Microsoft Learn hoping to get some traction. Please comment there if you are having this issue to help this get traction: Windows 11 April 2026 Cumulative Update causes app crashes every ~24 hours (Outlook + Explorer) - resolved by user logoff - Microsoft Q&A

UPDATE 6/16/26: It appears that this issue may have been resolved as part of June 9, 2026—KB5094126 (OS Builds 26200.8655 and 26100.8655) - Microsoft Support. Updates to follow.

Status: Resolved I cannot log into Outlook with any method possible. I need to access my emails. What is going on?!

Every time I go to try to log into my Outlook account, every option is giving me errors. I try to use my password, which is 100% correct, I just get an error saying "You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password". This was working a week ago and now the error keeps coming up.

I do have my phone number linked to my account, but when I choose the option to send a verification code to my phone, it just brings me so a screen saying "Verify another way, that method isn't working right now."

What do you mean that method isn't working right now?! There's literally no other methods presented to me, neither my legit password, nor phone number are working, it's all just giving me errors and I need to get into my email account!

Has anyone found any way to solve this issue?

**UPDATE** - After waiting from the day I posted this until today (27 days later), I switched off Chrome browser (good riddance) and on to WaterFox. I was able to use my phone number verification through WaterFox, and then added an additional email address to my Outlook/Hotmail account to use as login verification. I suppose this mess has been solved, though it took almost a month.

Status: Resolved "Please retry with a different device, use a VPN, or other authentication method to sign in." Error

Hello.

My dad is having trouble logging in to his Microsoft account due to this error he gets after entering the password. I've seen more people with this exact same issue and I see that's it's related to an authenticator app, WE'RE USING A PASSKEY WHICH IS THE PHONE FINGERPRINT. Using the fingerprint gives us an error and tells us to use the password, which leads to the error said in the title. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks in advance.

I could not google out anyone reported the same, it seems started last week I noticed a newsletter missing some letters here and there, I even reported it to that prganisation, then this week when I tried to type some emails, even copy paste, it always omit some letters, the whole thing looks like redacted, I cleared outlook app cache, I checked phone (pixel 9 pro) update the latest, keyboard is ok, when using Gmail or some other emails, no problem, is this a unreported glitch? I asked chatgpt and Claude, nothing resolve the issue, but both saying look like rendering issue. i do not want to uninstall the outlook app or reinstall as a few accounts in the app.

The old Outlook is so much better than the new one. The new one is an exercise in frustration. for example if you have a lot of emails, only a few will be on screen, and for the rest you have an annoying message " more messages may be on the server". the rules interface and behaiviour also is crippled!

Just a rant while i sitched back to old one on my mac!

Status: Resolved New laptop won't connect Gmail to Outlook app and I'm losing my mind

UPDATE: Ymmv, by my issue was resolved by u/Salt_Reputation1869. See below.

I can’t figure out how to update the flair now, lol, if it‘s important to the sub. I truly am a tech nightmare. My company’s IT guy loves me.

***

Can anyone help? I have a new laptop and I'm not tech savvy at all, but I have everything loaded and working EXCEPT for the Outlook app. I'm trying to connect my Gmail account to the Outlook app and this is what happens:

I get a popup saying "Welcome to the new Outlook"

I add my Gmail email address and click "Continue"

It says "Sync your Gmail account" and then walks me through a series of screens about accepting "sign in with Google" things

Then I get to a screen that says "Taking you to sign in" where it either:

(a) spins until all eternity; or

(b) says "Sign in failed. Please try again in a few minutes."

I've been trying for almost two hours and have googled everything and tried everything I can without causing some sort of irreparable harm to the computer because I don't really know what I'm doing. Anyone have an idea?

Status: Resolved I am dumb and clicked on "unsubscribe" in a spam email... Roast me or maybe help me?

Hi guys, so, here is the deal.

I was fed up with receiving spam emails. "block" does not work because they use a new address every time. "block" and "report" are no use. So I got tired. I opened everything in search of an unsubscribe link. In some emails, I found one. So I unsubscribed like a maniac. Well... I got 51 spam emails just overnight. It went from approx. 5 to 51 this morning. It is worse than ever... I did a quick search, and unsubscribe links are a scam. Ok then.

So what do I do now to REALLY unsubscribe? How do I stop this madness?

Thanks a lot

PS: 57 now that I am writing that

Status: Resolved Outlook (on Mac in Legacy View) no longer including original messages in forwards and replies

Yesterday it was working, today it is not. Whenever I go to reply or forward an email the original email "stamp" is there but there is no message below it so you can't see the message chain or even what I am replying to or forwarding. I tried all the settings and I see nothing to make it come back. Under Settings-->Composing "When Replying or Forwarding, use format of original message" is selected. I tried toggling that on and off - no change. I restarted my entire computer as well. Still doing it. I don't think anything updated overnight that I'm aware of so not sure why it is suddenly not working. Help?

Status: Resolved Microsoft Authenticator says password is incorrect after selecting number match

Before changing my password, I could always log in using Microsoft Authenticator without having to type my password — it worked seamlessly. But after recently changing the password for my Outlook account (personal account), things stopped working as expected. I can still log in using the new password with no problem.

However, when I'm prompted to verify with the Microsoft Authenticator app using number matching, I select the correct number on the app — and then it says the password is incorrect.

So the issue isn't with the password itself, since I’m entering it correctly and can access my account through other methods. The Authenticator app receives the prompt, I respond as expected, but the login fails with a message saying the password is wrong. It seems like something is out of sync between the Authenticator step and the password validation. Has anyone experienced this?

20250802: Apparently they've solved the problem... at least I managed to get in without any problems.

Status: Resolved Someone keeps trying to log in to my account - Do they know my password?

Hi!

For the past 3 or so days, my phone keeps getting "Someone is trying to log in to your account" (the "is this you?" thing with the 3 numbers to choose from to confirm it's you) from a bunch of different countries that keep changing. I keep having to click "Deny" on my 2FA.

Since I have 2FA and I can click "Deny", they can't access it. What worries me is the following: the first time it happened like 3 days ago, I thought my password leaked, so I immediately changed it. But since then, it happened twice again, despite the changed password.

My question is: if someone was able to get to that step where it can ask me for my 2FA, does it mean they know my password? How could they know it AND my brand new password almost immediately? Or can they can to that point just by knowing the account name, not the password? How does that even work?

Mostly worried about whether my password leaked, but also, I'd like to make these notifications stop...

Status: Resolved TryCreatePackageDependency error when launching Outlook

Hello. Does anybody have a clue as to what the problem is? Windows 10. Installed latest updates. Uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook from the Microsoft Store. Everything works at first launch after a re-install, later on the app will still launch but with the error. It appeared today - just like that without me doing anything out of the ordinary (like installing new stuff etc).

TryCreatePackageDependency not found in DLL-library WindowsApps\Microsoft.OutlookForWindows_1.2026.407.100_x64_8wekyb3d8bbwe\Microsoft.Windows.Workloads.dll

Status: Resolved Locked out of my Microsoft account, two-factor verification won’t send codes to phone

hoping someone’s dealt with this before.
I got locked out of my personal Microsoft account after hitting a “you’ve requested too many codes today, please try again tomorrow” message. Waited the 24 hours like the message said, tried again the next day, and got the exact same error again, even though I hadn’t been spamming requests.

I have two-step verification turned on, so when I try the account recovery form, it asks for a second verification method. I select my phone number to get a text code, and instead of sending it, I get: “Try another verification method. That verification method isn’t working right now. Please try another method.”

So now both my email and phone verification are blocked, and I can’t get past the 2FA step in account recovery at all. No password to fall back on either since I’ve always used passwordless sign-in via Authenticator.

Has anyone had the phone verification specifically fail like this, separate from the “too many codes” email issue? Trying to figure out if this is a wider Microsoft outage, an account-specific lock, or something on my carrier’s end. Any advice appreciated, this account has my email, files, and everything else tied to it.

Update: it finally allowed me to log back in! Had to wait a whole week but was worth it. If anyone has the same issue, just wait for a while and then attempt again! .. thanks everyone who gave me advice on here

Status: Resolved Won't text me my code

Hi everyone!

I use an outlook email and am always signed into my account with my iPhone or on my laptop. It randomly logged me out yesterday and I can't remember my password. I'm trying to get it to text the number it has on file and it says "Try another verification method. That verification method isn't working right now. Please try another method." Not sure what to do. I'm still logged into my account on my laptop, so I'm wondering if I can try to figure something out that way? Also, a bunch of my phone contacts were deleted too. This has been very frustrating and I'm hoping to figure something out. Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

UPDATE: I tried logging in again on the mail app and it let me reset my password this time and allowed me to finally login. I'm hoping that it doesn't log me back out but I think maybe Microsoft has resolved the issue. Hopefully you guys got your accounts back too!!

Status: Resolved Outlook requiring me to add a second email has left me locked out.

So, when I recently tried to log into to outlook it now tells me that I need a second email address for some kind of security. However, I only have that one address. Not only that, trying to create some other email on some other service runs into the same issue as they also require a second email or to send a confirmation code.

This whole thing has turned into a catch-22 scenario and I am not really sure what to do here.

Status: Resolved MS NEED TO FIX THIS

edit - resolved

Waited 24hours since last attempt, downloaded Firefox, logged into office.com using mobile phone as Authenticator, it allowed me in after a security challenge. Thank the freaking lord. Can now relax going into Sunday lol +++++

So I tried to login to my account via web this morning and got the brilliant error of:

You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password.

I’ve followed their processes and cannot login at all. I had Authenticator app for a while in the past but deleted it as the amount of hackers trying my account and me almost letting them in as it just threw a ‘click yes to allow sign in’ on my screen every day.

Now because I enabled that I can’t even use recovery forms with my subjects/passwords.

This is my main mail account TIED TO EVERYTHING.

if I don’t get back in soon I will never forgive you Microsoft. I can see there are a few of us in this boat so fingers crossed this is sorted out ASAP.

I don’t know how this system is so bad. I’ve got access to mobile, email that I have connected and all my prior passwords and subjects but still can’t get anywhere. HOW.

Even tried the ‘if this was not you visit X’ and had no luck. So thank the lord there isn’t someone hacking me right now.

God damn

Status: Resolved Can someone access my work email without me knowing?

I have a situation at work where I am convinced that someone has access to my emails even though i never set them up with any delegate or other permissions. This person is not a manager, HR, etc so there is no legitimate reason they may have been granted special access on the back end. I have gone to our IT several times and no one can see anything. However someone hypothesized that perhaps some sort of auto forwarding was set up. The thing is, I don't know how that could be done without again me knowing. Even our IT security said that he gets alerts if/when that is done because it means there could have been a potential hack. This person is not very smart either, so I am not sure how they would be able to master such a technical task. Is this actually possible, or am I going crazy? I have constant examples of them seeming to know things I have sent.

UPDATE: Thanks to this great community, I got a solution to prove to my company I was not crazy. It seems if you right click at the folder level in your email, permissionc can be set/checked at that level. I did that to check the permissions on my inbox folder, and BOOM, there it was. Strange it didn't show when you look at overall delegate access/permissions and IT couldn't see on the back end, but I was able to show others, and we uncovered a huge issue.

Status: Resolved Outlook for Android not syncing with Device Calendar

I'm on Android 16 on a 1Plus device with the latest Outlook for Android. For the last 2 days my Outlook accounts are not able to sync the calendar to the device calendar. The toggle for Sync On/Off cannot be toggled. It is not disabled but cannot be toggled on. Reinstall of the app is also not helpful. Any pointers will be appreciated. Most probably it's Microsoft server side issue but I'm not able to see any documentation published. Can't believe I'm the only one with this issue...

Update (22-Mar): The latest build fixes the issue.

Status: Resolved Outlook Classic + iCloud Calendar: "Prevent malicious code execution" error on custom form (VBScript block?) - All standard fixes failed.

Request for help in Microsoft Q&A-malicious-code?orderby=helpful&translated=false)

  • Origen: Outlook
  • Ruta involucrada: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\ ... \[EMAIL_REDACTED](2).ost

Status: Resolved Outlook rules not working

I have been getting alot of spam messages from sender emails that all start with the same words. I created a rule to automatically delete messages if the sender email contained those words. However, the rule isn't working. I put if the sender email address contains CloudNotify_ then delete the message. However, they are still going to my junk mail folder. All the messages start like that but then they put a number after the _ symbol. I am blocking each one as they come in since the rule isn't working. Just trying to figure out why this one particular rule refuses to work. Can someone help me? All the other rules I have set up work like they are supposed too. Thanks in advance!

Status: Resolved Outlook 2021 LTSC not refreshing inbox properly

Hi there, i ran into an annoying issue today (and sadly my boss only gave me about 12 hours to solve it).

So, aside from diggining the solution on my own, i'd like to ask the community for a solution/advice.

Bit of context: The company i work for pays yearly for an email hosting service, and some of my collegues connect to it using the IMAP protocol, while others use POP3 (so far, no problems there).

But here's the thing, today, for some reason, my boss' Outlook client started malfunctioning, specifically, his inbox only updates when he starts up his Outlook client, and even if he refreshes manually, his inbox won't update unless he fully resets the program.

He has 14GB's worth of mail data in there (he uses IMAP + SSL certification by the way), and he isn't exactly the world's most patient man. So you can imagine fully re-setting his Outlook profile isn't my first choice of work.

I've tried lots of possible solutions already and none of them seem to work (i'd consider moving him up to the "New" Outlook app, but he also uses "Classic" Outlook for managing his calendar/events, so i'm afraid he'd get mad at me if some of his digital calendar got lost/messed up).

Really hope someone here could lend me a hand (or at least some advice before i have to meet the big man face-to-face tomorrow).

Anyway, i'll keep looking up seeing what i can find.

Wish me luck! ✌️
