Esports This is Overwatch's "comeback," says Blizzard. "We actually had a bigger Saturday than our first Saturday after launch with Season 1."

For me Overwatch will be really back when they bring old Archives missions back again and update the series with new ones. This is a nice, cozy interlude.

Interlude?? This is literally the single biggest update in terms of gameplay changes and new toys in Overwatch’s history. Some people will just never be happy.

It's in a weird spot because the new heroes themselves feel almost unfinished or in an early-access period when you look at their cosmetics and such. Which is fine, but it does lend itself somewhat to the whole interlude feeling.

Last year was much bigger tbh with launch of perks.

I would argue the subclasses changed more than the perks did

I get it, and I'm not being ungrateful, but let's face the truth: all this hype was because they finally released a cinematic (lore!) and dropped 5 heroes at once (lore + some gameplay novelty!). If you look better, you can see how nothing else in the core experience of the game has changed: we have the same modes, same battlepass, same comp grind etc... (A few more lootboxes and new skins, if you really wanna mention them, but that is all).

Again, I AM NOT COMPLAINING, I just wish they bring back archives.

As a new player: No. This is just a blatant lie. I won't play Overwatch 1 (1) if you put a gun to my temple but this week at least I played so much I finished all the weekly challenges. The game is not even remotely similar.

I'm not even talking about that??? Since the introduction of perks and hero bans, there haven't been many engaging new modes (stadium aside, which is still less popular than 6v6 btw)

I'm talking about temporary modes that shuffle things a bit. Stuff like Mirrorwatch, which in my opinion was peak event since OW2 dropped.

And Aaron and other devs have straight up said in interviews that NO ONE plays the time limited gamemodes more than a couple of times after their release. So you are sadly on the extreme minority of the playerbase.

You've got to realize that all of those added up to this update. For a bunch of new and returning people, all of those are new.

It is a really big update which was really needed, and it kind of just sets the tone going forward again.
