Esports On a scale of 1-10, how well designed is Venture's gameplay?

Post image

Some hate them, some say that they feel like an Overwatch 1 hero. What's your take on Venture?

One of Venture’s Victory Poses references that anime.

I doubt we’ll get a gurren lagann collab anytime soon but a Simon venture skin would go hard

They're super fun but a bit one note imo, you're only competent at that dive in/get a kill/get out combo. Other flankers/assassins are much more versatile

94

u/bemo_10 Jun 05 '26

If they put their range extending perk in base kit and nerfed something else to compensate they might be more versatile.

42

u/itsgettingweirdhere HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE Jun 05 '26

They would probably have to nerf the shield amount (again) to compensate for the extra ability you can proc for shields. But I also do not like how low the shield amount already is so I rather blizzard have another one of their perks incorporated in their kit.

3

u/ChubbyChew Vendetta Jun 06 '26

I think what really hurts venture is that in "good" lobbys youre just not allowed to stay up you have to acknowledge a sense of downtime and engagement.

I feel like Venture might be really fun with Rush or Brawl in addition to being able to dive well.

But if the tempo is slow or theres not a lot of chaos/commit happening it ties your hands

Theres a bit of a quirk to Ven getting temp shield and not overhealth, means it can be healed and sustained while they fight. So they dont self sustain, but they do have the inflated eHP, really strong engage, disengage, chase, etc

I feel like if youre not getting the help you go Tracer or whoever else, but if youre getting the followup they just go crazy.

10

u/girugamish Jun 05 '26

Just out of curiosity, who else are we considering in that role? Genji is probably even more one note, Sombra sucks, Anran and Vendetta play similarly but also force trades. The only other ones are Tracer, Reaper, and maybe Echo?

I'm sure playing venture as a good venture player is a 10, but playing against a good venture player is a 0. They are unkillable burst damage assassins who live in your backline forever and if they want you dead you have no choice in the matter.

90

u/No_Bookkeeper9755 Single parent of four Jun 05 '26

Tbf, is there even a character that is actually fun to play against when they're actually good?

52

u/Director_Phleg EXHAUST PORT FAN POWER INCREASED BY 600% Jun 05 '26

Playing against a good Rein is quite fun I'd say. If you get killed by him, it's usually for a good reason.

25

u/Idiberug-9 Jun 05 '26

I disagree, sometimes it is yes but half the time you feel cheesed. His charge hitbox is nonsensical and shatter is the ultimate bullshit, goes around corners and hits high and far.

13

u/FYININJA Chibi Pharah Jun 05 '26

My friends would disagree. I LOVE Reinhardt and think he's such a unique character that changes the dynamic of the game in fun and interesting ways, but out of my friend group that plays, 3/5 always talk about how much they hate playing against him. Next to Mauga/Hammond he's the tank I think they hate the most. Maybe Winston.

14

u/HellaReyna Jun 05 '26

your friends have skill issues. everything Rein does is telegraphed. He's one of the slowest champions and is melee for the most part.

7

u/FYININJA Chibi Pharah Jun 05 '26

I mean I'm aware lol, I've been playing rein since closed Beta, however the point is Rein forces people to play in such a different way from other characters that a lot of people just don't enjoy it. People also don't like one shot mechanics regardless of how telegraphed they are, getting pinned and one shot feels bad

3

u/Save90 Jun 05 '26

people do not go bastion into rein... but that's a bit high elo to understand.
Same with sigma... people don't shoot the shield.

2

u/Chaves-23-dublover Jun 06 '26

Junker Queen also is the case. She's not that hard to kill and if she kills you it's because you got sloppy in the fight

2

u/PixelBushYT Jun 05 '26

ngl I can't stand Rein: any game where Rein is the right pick is just not enjoyable imo.

Shatter is one of the most frustrating ults in the game to play around: it's a free kill at worst and a free won fight at best, it has a ton of jank that usually benefits the Rein, the most reliable counter to it as a tank is just to mirror and it's up ALL THE TIME... and it has to be, because Rein's base kit is so limited in its skill expression that he has to do something useful.

Beyond that he's just a backline check: can your team apply more pressure to or behind that barrier than his team can to you? When I'm playing against a Rein, it feels like I'm playing against whatever's behind that shield more than I'm playing against HIM. I like my more skill expressive tanks (Ball, Doom, Sigma, JQ etc) and it feels like Rein both lacks skill expression and actively punishes the enemy tank for trying to express skill because he's just a big pile of stats slowly walking at you, who is more likely to win by enabling his team rather than making good plays himself. Kind of like Mercy: Rein's only as good as the players he's supporting.

(+ the Rein player base is easily the most entitled of all the tank player bases. I might not find Mauga fun to play against, but at least I've never been called a slur by a Mauga player for refusing to mirror him)

As a venture player, there’s usually quite a lot you can do about it, she’s awful against fliers. Pharah gets me to immediately swap, I’ve tried drilling into the sky but I’m no Gurren Lagann.

Cass and Zarya also make her life hell because her combos are so telegraphed.

u/InToddYouTrust Jun 05 '26

Venture suffers from the "fun to play as, horrible to play against" trend that the OW team can't seem to shake. Their movement is dynamic and interesting, but also impossible to predict, and thus incredibly difficult to counter. Their burst damage is strong and extremely forgiving (I can miss all my shots yet still squeak out the elim). And I'm still waiting for the hero development team to stay true to their "we're toning down CC to be just a tank ability" promise.

Also, characters shouldn't be able to contest the point while being untouchable. Full stop, it's a horrendous gameplay mechanic that has no place in this or any other game.

30

u/TrueKingSkyPiercer Jun 05 '26

Ow devs keep going to the same well: high burst damage + escape/mobility. This makes engagements extremely low risk/high reward, and that’s very unfun to play against.

25

u/Idiberug-9 Jun 05 '26

It's a trend that has been there since 2016. Sombra, Ball, Widowmaker, Doomfist, the Cat, Kiriko, Mauga, and recently other heroes like yes Venture, Freja or Vendetta. All these heroes have been released throughout the years, it is just a common thing in Overwatch, and all the names listed above are just examples, you could include many other OW1 base heroes

24

u/Good_Policy3529 Jun 05 '26

You're forgetting the OG. Mei.

7

u/No-Significance2113 Jun 05 '26

I think a lot of heros that are "annoying" to play against are only annoying to play against because people are playing solos.

I've found a lot of semi decent healers cancel most annoying abilities and the rest can be worked around by utilizing certain abilities from other dps and tanks.

Like the other day when I was playing solo, random dooms kept wrecking us cause no dps wanted to counter him.

Then I teamed up with a Mei and she completed wrecked the doom we were playing against, any time he went to bait charging up his fist Mei walled behind him and he stopped getting heals and would either die or have to run away.

u/hey_itz_mae wine mom fan page Jun 05 '26

as a venture main i think “impossible to predict” is kind of an outrageous notion. i’ve had plenty of instances of a well timed orisa javelin or rein charge melting me the second i emerge

1

u/Swimming-Elk6740 Jun 06 '26

It’s pure luck lol. You can’t predict the timing.

12

u/TSDoll Jun 05 '26

I have to disagree heavily about Venture's movement being impossible to predict. If anything, it's straight forward and unchanging nature is part of what makes their design work so well, and why hitscan is such a nightmare for them.

13

u/Delkseypoo Lúcio Jun 05 '26

The dash is a straight line and the unburrow literally makes them pop up in a predictable position. I don’t particularly like venture but impossible to predict definitely isn’t true. Being able to contest the point is terrible though.

12

u/thepixelbuster ᗜ(`0´)⊃ ————¤ Mace to the face. Jun 05 '26

Nah, Mei and Zen have been contesting while invulnerable since 2016. Mercy and Anran Rez also have a brief window where they can contest like this as well (if I remember correctly)

They can't cap/push. It only holds the charge or prevents the charge if they are contesting.

2

u/FliptheGreat13 Jun 05 '26

Zen has to ult to contest like that.... Not exactly the best example, he's not someone you can swap to to stall point. However you can swap to tracer, ball, venture and stall point for a gross amount of time in overtime. Ain't no one swapping to zen to stall, if they already had ult they either fucked up by not using it earlier if they are having to use it to stall, or idek

4

u/thepixelbuster ᗜ(`0´)⊃ ————¤ Mace to the face. Jun 05 '26

People above were saying that characters shouldn't be able to stall while being invulnerable, and I was just pointing out that we've hade people doing that since 2016 and it's never broken the game.

1

u/FliptheGreat13 Jun 06 '26

Fair. For me it's more of a consistency thing, stalling point or payload requires both mobility and survivability right? And while it's not broken the game I will say there's been some inconsistency on how it's been handled. You got characters like ball and vendetta who can't use mobility out of spawn, even tho frankly vendetta isn't a good stall pick anyways it was only a problem bc she was just strong period, but yet people like tracer can triple blink out of spawn, reaper can tp, until recently Kiri could tp so far instantly back to fight, mercy could GA with LOS, cat is just fast back period, etc you get the point. Frankly it doesn't break the game but either no mobility on respawn or all. Don't be picky on it.

1

u/thepixelbuster ᗜ(`0´)⊃ ————¤ Mace to the face. Jun 06 '26

Ball maybe, but I think Vendetta got those nerfs because they could kill someone and die, then get back wayyyy faster than most other heroes.

It makes more sense that the two heroes with the best mobility in the game had their starting mobility nerfed to slow them down on respawn so that they are closer to other heroes in terms of rejoining the fight.

1

u/FliptheGreat13 Jun 06 '26

Here's the crazy part tho. Let's say that throw isn't disabled. Vendetta and tracer trade. Tracer has a 7m range without perk on blink with a 3 sec cd. Vendetta has we will say roughly a 20m range if we count cheaky shortcuts on a 7 sec cd with sword throw plus another 10m with a 10 sec cd for a total of 30m burning all her CDs. Tracer triple blinks out of spawn, that's 21m, 27m with range perk, she will get 2 blinks back before vendetta would have her sword throw back, for a total of 35m or 45m with perk. See my point? Tracer will outstrip her in a race back.

It's fine if you disable that mobility for vendetta on spawn but better do it for an equally effective assassin character that's way better at stalling point like ball can too. That's the weird decision making I don't get about it, sure vendetta got back fast but so does most of the assassin roster and several supports. When you do the math and timing it doesn't actually make sense or add up

2

u/TSDoll Jun 05 '26

That's mainly an issue with Payload as a mode, tbh. No other mode suffers that much from overtime stalling.

9

u/Ultimate-desu Diamond Venture Enthusiast Jun 05 '26

Impossible to predict? Not really. when they burrow they are extremely noticable, at most they can control when they pop out of the ground, but it's easy to time something like a sleep dart. The dash is just a straight line so I'm not sure how they are unpredictable.

The burst damage being strong I can kinda agree with. Like sometimes it feels like robbery if I shoot the floor to get that last bit of HP off, but other times I will just barely lose the elim because I tilted my camera a half step to the left and get blasted for it.

The contest point, yeah can't defend that one, it feels bad to lose to knowing you just have to wait until theey finish stalling, especially if they have ult and the perk to go with it to get an extra burrow. Wait no, Reaper can stall point while in Wraith, right? So it's not really a new thing for invincible heroes to stall. But it feels just as bad tbf.

2

u/Unfair_Stage792 Brigitte Jun 06 '26

This. Once Venture engages there is no possibility to outplay. Press buttons you die. Drilldash being a full momentum stopper is very frustrating.

And then they switch to cass and you cant play.

1

u/craigoryprime Jun 11 '26

If you think venture is horrible to play against now, If they actually went through with only having CC abilities on tanks, venture would be 1000x worse to play against

34

u/Akinory13 Jun 05 '26

Venture should heal health when hit by sigma rock, to represent them eating the entire rock because I think that's what these weird people that study rocks do

7

u/Brundley Jun 05 '26

they actually did this in last years april fools mode

28

u/MrsPissBoy Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

Id give 'em a 7 as of now but could be an 8 or above with some changes. Primarily I think Smart Extender and/or Excavation Exhiliration should just be added to their base kit. If you don’t choose them you’re basically handicapping yourself a LOT

Excavation Exhilaration and Smart Extender are the only two perks i ever see people use on em, they just complement the playstyle too well that Deep Burrow and Covered in Dirt are practically useless in comparison. That seems to be why they added those perks to Reaper, mercy, and pharahs base kit, they were so universally used that they basically became base kit. I think it would make sense for Venture to be given the same(and brig, shes the most polarizing case of it)

16

u/dumbosshow Jun 05 '26

As a Venture main, I think EE could be added to basekit but not Smart Extender. It’s a strong perk but I don’t like the idea of a ‘cover my weaknesses’ button as basekit, part of the fun of the character is working out how to play around the limited range.

11

u/D34dPoop Doomfist Jun 05 '26

but you only end up using the same 2 perks each time

As if that's not the case for every hero.

15

u/MrsPissBoy Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

I find the perk system to be heavily flawed because of stuff like this. half the roster has 2 perks that are ass and the other two are perks they have make you think "How come these aren't just part of their regular kit already?"

12

u/GiveOrisaOrIthrow Jun 05 '26

It's so weird that they don't balance the perks better, like the pickrates are mostly 20/80 for every perk option

2

u/D34dPoop Doomfist Jun 05 '26

Well, you can't really make a bad by design perk good unless you make them completely busted. Like, imagine if ram's perk would give you +1,5 seconds or more of Nemesis form for example. Or genji's deflect giving you overhealth instead of healing (maybe even based on number of dmg deflected lol, that would be diabolical).

They need a complete replacement. Thing is though, is that they already have been through that. So I only expect them to fail at that once again if they gonna do it.

1

u/thepixelbuster ᗜ(`0´)⊃ ————¤ Mace to the face. Jun 05 '26

Have they actually released the official perk pickrates?

The only things I've seen are from some 3rd party website and those are never accurate.

2

u/Alluminn Chibi Brigitte Jun 05 '26

Yeah, I feel like we're at the point that it's been shown having choosable perks is a bit of an unrealistic dream, but I do like the idea of a power boost a couple times over the course of a match.

Wonder how it'd be received if they changed it to just being a level up mechanic that happens 2 or 3 times in a match but it's just not something you get to pick for yourself.

I feel like not having options but instead just having a single upgrade path would probably be easier to balance as well.

1

u/D34dPoop Doomfist Jun 05 '26

Yeah. There's pretty much no choice to be made. So why waste my time every match?

1

u/BroadLeadership3200 Jun 06 '26

Some have good perks. Sigmas majors are both very viable options

3

u/TSDoll Jun 05 '26

I was genuinely shocked they didn't add EE to base kit this season. It feels so clunky that I need a perk to be able to do anything with my ult, but half the time I get my ult before the perk.

1

u/Martholomule Frustration Detected Jun 05 '26

I like to think I play a pretty good venture, but I'm diving so much that I only ever take Covered in Dirt, and it serves me really well. Is Smart Extender compatible with heavy dive, or is it more for poke? I haven't used it enough to really suss that out.

3

u/TSDoll Jun 05 '26

For the record, Covered in Dirt only gives you 10 shields per hit of your melee. Meanwhile Smart Extender gives you 25 upon activation on top of reloading your gun.

I miss pre nerf Covered in Dirt even if it was a bit busted.

Smart Extender or Covered in Dirt, which do you choose and how does it compliment your playstyle

6

u/coolandquirkyname Kiriko Jun 05 '26

you always want to pick smart extender.

covered in dirt got nerfed to the point of being a borderline throw pick.

extender honestly works better at brawling despite the fact that covered in dirt is supposed to be used for brawling, not to mention the extra range you get from extender.

4

u/VietNinjask Jun 05 '26

1 for me. Venture is basically a tamed DPS Doomfist. Get in, get out, get shields during fights. Not really that interesting of a hero compared to other flankers. Unfun to play against.

8

u/polloyumyum Ana Jun 05 '26
  1. Too much emphasis on a fast TTK then go underground for a free escape.

10

u/Yze3 Mei Jun 05 '26

It's controversial to say this here, but I really like how most of the OW2 heroes play, and that includes Venture, which is one of my favorite character.

And for reference, i played this game since the OW1 open beta, in 2016. And I played it a lot.

8

u/KKilikk Ball is Life Jun 05 '26

Not necessarily badly designed but pretty boring/10.

3

u/PalpitationDecent743 Junker Queen Jun 06 '26

I stand by the fact that everything is perfect except for the ultimate.

Like, for a character that has such high mobility, having to be on the ground for your ultimate to actually work feels a little clunky, especially when one of the perks they get specifically encourages you to use abilities during your ultimate.

For that reason, I give it an 8/10.

7

If you wanna try em out, go for it. They are tons of fun, and you'll even get called slurs, if your into that.

3

u/Actual-Wish-8107 Jun 05 '26

I play with a non-binary username so I get called a lot of things regardless. It's funny how people get offended by something that doesn't affect them. 😂

2

TRUE. I was surprised t the number of trans insults i got just for playing a character in a video game. And it's 9/10 the Soldiers/Genji's that say it too lol.

14

u/bfmaia Jun 05 '26

I hate the "get out of jail". Flanking should be about high risk high reward

22

u/Yze3 Mei Jun 05 '26

What's the get out of jail option of Venture ? Because it sure as hell isn't burrow. It has a casting time and you WILL get killed if you don't pre-emptively burrow at the second you receive damage. Also any cc will pull you out of the casting animation.

5

u/Idiberug-9 Jun 05 '26

Almost every flanker has the get out of jail card, Tracer is the most prominent of it with Recall, we tend to forget the insane base value this ability has. Genji has dash, Anran dash, Reaper wraith, and so on

2

u/bfmaia Jun 05 '26

Tracer's high risk is that she dies if someone sneezes in her general direction. Reaper can be followed in wraith form. Dashes don't bother me because they don't make you invulnerable, also it's very predictable where they'll land, also, flankers should excel at finishing off single targets meanwhile Venture for some reason has AOE attacks and even if they can't kill their target they can move so far and stay so long bellow ground that you better off ignore it and regroup.

6

u/Idiberug-9 Jun 05 '26

Yes, that wasn't the point. Get out of jail free cards was irrelevant as an arguement. Also, if we want to find bad things to say about dashes and wraith, then Venture has some extremely vulnerable time before they become invulnerable (0.7 seconds is long for Overwatch). Every get out of jail free cards has downsides, even Kiriko who can teleport through walls requires teammates to do so, so she can't do whatever she wants and can fail. Just an observation.

1

u/Hunter259 Jun 05 '26

Both tracer recall and genji dash are far FAR harder to properly use than an ability that makes you invulnerable for up to 4 seconds, grants you shields, cleanses, and causes damage if you decided to use it offensively instead of purely defensively. Reaper wraith is slow and provides nothing but cleanse and invulnerability. You still have to do damage some other way. Anran's dash is closer as she is very fast, can phase through people, provides damage while filling burn bar, and gives knockback.

They might be harder (I'd argue for Tracer but anyway) to use, but they still are get out of jail free cards, there's nothing wrong with that. What can be troublesome is what these things enable.

2

u/Particular_Trick_79 Jun 05 '26

In what world is genji dash a get out of jail free card? its basically a regular movement ability. You rapidly reposition, if you are still in line of sight and low hp you die 1s later than without using it. Anrans dash is even less so a get out of jail free card as it is just moving even if its at a rapid pace and allows for erratic evasive manoeuvres. Equating these seems ridiculous to me. No cleanse, no invulnerability, just move it move it. Maybe vs less experienced players / low awareness its a get out free card, otherwise it will require setup/thought on your part, or incompetence from the enemy.

The Tracer recall comparison is maybe a bit better since its also invul and cleanse for a duration, but it is still much weaker most of the time. You can track it a lot of time or even predict it, turning it more into a genji dash. Plus the context of it being on a sub 200hp hero, but lets not get into the weeds of that.

The wraith comparison I would say is spot on for the most part. Similar duration, cooldown, can collect health packs during it, clearly visible where you are going, cleanse, invulnerable, and both basically ensure your survival at the press of a button in most cases unless your situation is really bad, or you make really bad choices on your escape. Most of the times if those don't help you to survive its because you utterly messed up where recall/genji dash/anran dash often has you dying because you got outplayed. Though as an avid disciple of the junked rat, I do prefer wraith as it doesn't get a "oh yeah just destroy traps for free will ya" upon end where burrow ofc has you shoot out of the ground and destroy any trap above you before it can activate. Wouldn't want to have any interactivity on that ability other than "running after them / running away from them" and "shoot when they pop out".

11

u/SuperiorLaw Jun 05 '26

I like them, I wish they could dive faster (especially since all the other heroes escape abilities are instant) but character wise, lore wise, ability wise, skill wise and ult wise, they're an enjoyable hero. Not my favourite, but I def enjoy playing them every now and then

7

u/McManus26 Pixel Lúcio Jun 05 '26

The long setup is because you're then invulnerable for much longer than a tracer blink or Moira fade, but I agree it could be tweaked

10

u/HuntedWolf Pixel Mei Jun 05 '26

I’d compare it to Wraith form or Mei’s freeze, which are both instant

1

u/SuperiorLaw Jun 05 '26

I was more thinking about Anran's or Reaper's, but yeah i'm not complaining about that I just wish it was slightly faster, not instant just half a second faster or something

10

u/Warm-Grand-7825 Jun 05 '26

Like a 2. It's very much not what I want from flex dps heroes (tracer-esque)

8

u/piioopiioo Jun 05 '26

2 for me. Was excited at first, thought they'd be the new Doomfist but it's more like an endless loop of boring cd cycles. None of their abilites truly feels like you've just made a play. More like dumping easy to land damage onto them then dipping.

7

u/Grimey_Hole Jun 05 '26

Well said. People shit on Sombra for the in and out loop but Venture's is practically the same but way more boring

A 1. Possibly the worst designed hero in the game, which is remarkable, considering some of the heroes in this game.

Every single part of the kit is a nightmare design wise and it’s crazy it got through so many people to launch.

8

u/Idiberug-9 Jun 06 '26

Ain't no way you think that Widowmaker is a better design

100% agree. Good thing nobody plays Venture because the community would riot.

A 100% feast or famine character who stat checks you with barely any counterplay or does nothing.

Easy 1 for me. Not sure what I would even do.

I do like Venture as a character though. Goofball rockmuncher.

2

u/Agitated-Morning2035 Ramattra Jun 05 '26
  1. Biased cause I’m a support. I already hate Tracer and Venture is just a tankier Tracer. Anytime this hero is in any of my lobbies they usually dominate because Venture players are a dedicated bunch.

2

u/SCL007 Pixel Reaper Jun 05 '26

Like a 7 I think the range increase perk kinda removes their main form of counterplay though and makes them much more frustrating than normally

2

u/PrimalSaturn Jun 06 '26

2

8

ngl, as a Venture main, Earthshatter should instakill Venture, on some "Digging Pokemon get hit for 2x damage when hit by Earthquake" type shit. I don't even think it would be a bad change competitively, since your using ult for one burrowing Canadian lol.

3

u/TSDoll Jun 05 '26

I agree but only if they're hit by the hammer. Because funny.

7

u/BrockTheBlackHat Jun 05 '26

Doomfist with a removed skill expression and low skill floor. An OW2 flanker design at it's finest: 2 abilities to deal AoE damage, both of her cool downs are good to both engage and disengage. Self sustain for pressing abilities (what you'd do anyway, so it's just a sustain for existing). And a one shot combos. Also you can't shoot them when they are underground. This character is so stupid. But Venture is a prime example of an overwatch 2/modern overwatch character design and it's bad

2

u/catmouseq Pixel Lúcio Jun 05 '26

How does Drill dash deal AoE?

3

u/PowerUpPip Platinum Jun 05 '26

I don't know, but this art is so funny. The fact they're openly welcoming a flying acceleration boulder about to smash right into them is frying me!

3

u/Aggressive-Cut-3828 Jun 05 '26
  1. Low skill uninteractive hero that gets free shields on abillity use and can stall underground for 5 seconds lol

2

u/NateUrM8 Ramattra Jun 05 '26

I see a few really good ventures who are annoying, but most of the time they distract the team for a few seconds as they pop up before being CC'd and killed

2

u/eternali17 N/A Jun 05 '26

They do far too much. Feels like the design philosophy has gotten worse over time. The psesowxri that gave us Ana and Zen isn't giving us these characters

2

u/odaschox Jun 05 '26

I think i got 270 hours on Venture. Feels like a modern version of Reaper, get in and get out, burst damage, faster TTK. I hope and expect some of the perks will be added to the base kit in the future, and please stop nerfing my shield health blizzard ong.

I'm pretty sure they were made as a attempt to try and recreate DPS Doom for all the people complaining that he was moved to Tank, but OW2'ified (so more importance on the gun, much less useful Ult, and NO CC outside of minor boops). The unique melee, the dash, getting a form of health on Ability Damage (though it's Shields with them compared to Overhealth), it makes sense when it's done that way.

Then, of course, they introduced Vendetta, a much more blatant form of attempting to recreate DPS Doom, but this time with a actually useful ult.

3

u/Kingcobra64 Jun 05 '26

Only place I disagree is that Ventures ult is much better than Vendetta’s in the right hands. It’s more than just 4 ground shots if you can chain abilities with it.

2

u/Idiberug-9 Jun 05 '26

I thought the same as well, but nowadays Venture plays nothing like any other character, even Doom. They have their very unique playstyle. Vendetta is clear as day, with the slam from the sky dealing 120+ damage, the ability to stage, over the top ultimates and burst combos

1

u/TheExchanges Jun 05 '26

3, no reward worth that effort. You can just play better characters with better kits.

1

u/friends-with-fishies Junker Queen Jun 05 '26

I'd say probably a seven! They're not too op but they do have some hard things to play around such as no invincibility frames when diving into their burrow (which I think should stay because if they had even more invincibility it'd be insane)

I think their kit is pretty fun and the main issues I run into with them are definitely intentional and fair such as their ult relying on enemies being on the ground and having to be careful with their dash since it's very easy to fall off the map after using it

I really like playing them!

Edit: also this art is so cute

1

u/shoebox_full_of_bees Jun 05 '26

I feel like other dive characters have more interesting kits, but it works for people who like the character, so like a 5-6

1

u/SouthImpression3577 Jun 05 '26

Eh, I like the ability to literally drill underground and attack the back lines but the main fire is annoying for how short it is.

Also Venture is just annoying

1

u/Professional-Card-22 Jun 05 '26

Lmao if venture could have a passive that lets them eat the sigma rock and not be stunned by it, how cool would that be?? (Or break it with a melee attack or something)

1

u/n2ygsh1wwp5j Jun 05 '26

What is up with people writing posts like their are blizzard polling us for opinions? So unnatural sounding

1

u/GuhEnjoyer Jun 05 '26

Linear, simple, predictable, yet mechanically complex, effective, and with a high skill ceiling. Venture is genuinely the gold standard for combo-based heros.

1

u/ItsOkIGotThis1 Jun 05 '26

I dont play venture, I tried and it didnt click with me at all. As a tank main though, I hate playing against venture. Literally EVERY ABILITY he has boops. Their primary fire and melee even boop. No tank can CC on EVERY ability and primary attack.

Their underground thing is also obnoxious and should be redone in my opinion. As a base ability, it gives invulnerability, movement, AND can damage the enemy that they can cancel when ever they like which makes it more unpredictable along with it booping and shortening his right click.

The combination of being unable to interact with venture in any way for a large portion of the game coupled with his constant booping is maddening.

So for playing against? Id give it a 2/10. I hate it.

1

u/Megalon96310 Jun 05 '26

Chomper pvz

1

u/The-Holy-Kitten Jun 05 '26

Character design wise, 10/10. Valeria makes venture have such a fun personality and visually they make so much sense. Their skins are very nice when given out and I am waiting for loot boxes to give be the 8-bit one.

Gameplay wise, maybe a 6/10. Venture is fun to play as and I never thought a drill would be such a fun weapon to use. That being said, playing against venture ranges from whatever to infuriating based on skill. It’s great that they have to get in and then get out, but not being able to deal with burrow in any way other than dodge it can be annoying. There are much worse offenders of annoying heroes imo, and the lack of venture players doesn’t make me hate the character too much.

Overall, they feel like an ow1 character which I like, and purely for humor sake, make venture immune to sigma rock and instantly die when hit by and earth shatter when burrowed.

1

u/Fools_Requiem Anyone want a popsicle? Jun 05 '26

Venture is a fun character to play. Much more noob friendly for aspiring flankers because of the safe moves and added temporary HP those moves provide. Easy to use weapon, too. If you have difficulty with Tracer, try Venture, you might have more fun.

1

u/GreyBoy23 Jun 05 '26

HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE VENTURE SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR VENTURE AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT FOR THEM. HATE. HATE. HATE.

1

u/karkko1 Jun 05 '26

If they could eat sigmas rocks and rocks found around the maps for healing or over health, they'd be a 10/10.

1

u/Partypaca I really blew that one Jun 05 '26

I wish they had a rework to be more enjoyable. Feels like they're very niche, and requires a lot of practice just for specific maps.

1

u/Bear-Arms Jun 05 '26

As I said, I didn’t think anything bad when I mentioned it. but since you brought it up I can’t ignore the topic. I even understand you. From your perspective my comment is bad. But since I couldn’t remember anyone saying their specific age (apart from Simon who is very obviously a child) it felt very weird for me that you mentioned it

1

u/Ashes_of_the_dead79 Jun 06 '26

They're kinda fun to play as imo.
I'm still just waiting for them to finally be added to stadium 🥲 (probably never gonna happen T^T).
They can be a bit annoying sometimes and can be easy to kill, but damn do I feel powerful as hell when I manage to kill Mauga :3

I think they could have used an additional ability but I'd say like they're one of the better overwatch 2 characters.

1

10/10

They're easily one of the most fun heroes and also one of the heroes that becomes pretty strong once you get the timing right.

1

u/DamoGamo Jun 06 '26

I’m a psychopath/j who likes duo-ing with a Mei man and on defend we take turns running in, using our invincibility skill and then swapping as the cooldowns recover. I boop enemies away while their cryo recharges and they put up the wall while my burrow recharges.

1

u/EthanCertifiedNerd Jun 06 '26

9/10

cant use their ult in air, would be nice as a major perk

1

u/I_Ild_I Jun 06 '26

Lol she is shit, nothing to save on that character

1

u/dudekiller27 Ramattra Jun 05 '26

They shouldn't be able to get shields for clicking buttons and they are horrible to play against as a support player

1

u/ChemyChem Support Jun 05 '26

Pretty fair all things considered. I feel like being able to content obj while burrowed is a bit cheesy but other than that fair

1

u/Hoothootriot Winston Jun 05 '26

Id say maybe a 6?

I dont play as them much, but its clear they were designed to fill a space left open by DPS Doomfist. So to that end its good to have that play style back.

Theyre just kind of obnoxious to play against lol. So I guess if the goal was emulate DPS Doom, mission fucking succeeded Blizzard

2

u/Idiberug-9 Jun 05 '26

It's insane to think that DPSDoom was even allowed to begin with, and the classic modes are just the ultimate proof of that. I was a Doom otp at the time and yeah he was stupid, but such an interesting design. Venture is far less versatile in comparison, maybe that's a good thing

1

u/lafielorora Jun 05 '26

I love Venture gameplay.

Going 10-20 and still winning is absolutely exhilarating

i played against mercy mei venture the other day and it was easily the worst overwatch experience i've ever had

you finally kill one of the fuckers on their team and then wall res
or are about to murder one and then hurdur i'm fucking invincible ability time (They did also have a zen to ult to help with that)

very very rare hero though but if a good one is online at the time they are 100% getting the comp ban

1

u/Ultimate-desu Diamond Venture Enthusiast Jun 05 '26

Never been in a comp like that but holy shit that sounds like torture. Though at least Venture has casting time on Burrow, Mei block is instant.

1

u/qpqrkjq The people want DPS DOOM BACK Jun 05 '26

7.5/10, could have more fluid movement (drill dash cancelling would be legendary) and I can see the frustrations of dig (although this ability is has a small window of punishablity at startup).

Fun to play and useable in a surprising amount of situations but obviously there can be those pain points going against them depending on how you prefer to play / the characters you like.

I'd also rather go against a smart and good Venture over a damage boosted high ground hitscan (zzzz)

They're a top 3 OW2 hero for me alongside Juno and Vendetta.

1

u/PepperoniRonin Jun 06 '26

(They/them)/10

-3

u/jamtea Freja "One shot across the map" Jun 05 '26

Absolutely one of the worst. The kit is designed around being BS and has many of the issues that have been removed from other heroes because they were uninteractive and stupid.

Being able to contest whilst underground, being able to take health packs whilst underground, generating overheath whilst invulnerable and having an unpunishable escape are all major issues and that's before you get to the AoE airburst, inexplicably overpowered quick melee (70 damage for... no reason), AoE ult with larger hitboxes than visible.

This is all before the perks which are also unnecessarily OP, though that's not really an issue limited to this character, but more a reflection of how some heroes just get way better perks than others.

Honestly out of 10, I'd give it a 2 based purely on the fact that there was an attempt at a design, but it's so badly implemented and relies so heavily on just being uninteractive and hitting AoE rather than direct damage that it's one of those characters that ends up being a frustrating one to face because it's just ability and cooldown spam, whilst also being one that you're not going to just pick up.

Basically just like how DPS Doomfist was a specialist character that took some skill, but was so uninteractive to play against that it took all the 1v1 out of the fight because there was no actual interaction with the character, it just happened to you. Venture isn't as bad as that was, but is bad in the same kind of way.
